Pengaruh Pemeriksaan Kehamilan Terhadap Pemilihan Penolong Persalinan, Besral Besral
Kesmas

Indeks Sosio-Ekonomi Menggunakan Principal Component Analysis, Iwan Ariawan
Kesmas

Splitting Genes: The Future Of Gmo's In The Wake Of The Wto/Cartagena Standoff, Sam A. Blaustein
ExpressO
This article examines the conflict surrounding GMO's (Genetically Modified Organisms) between the WTO and the UN. The respective positions of the United States and the European Union are discussed. The article argues that both international and domestic laws conflict with the rigid "precautionary principle" and straight to market approach adhered to by the European Union and the United States respectively. It ultimately suggests that common GMO specific laws are necessary for both sides to meet their respective goals and obligations.

Medicine In The Margins: Access, Resistance And Health Care Utilization Among The Tuareg Of Niger, Teeb Al-Samarrai
Medicine In The Margins: Access, Resistance And Health Care Utilization Among The Tuareg Of Niger, Teeb Al-Samarrai
Yale Medicine Thesis Digital Library
This thesis explores the historical, cultural and social reasons for the wariness that the nomadic Tuareg of Niger have towards Western medicine and medical practitioners. I give a historical account of their interactions with and resistance to the French colonial administration and the postcolonial state of Niger and how this resistance to Western medicine and health clinics was an embodied form of political and social resistance to governmentality and state attempts at sedentarization. I provide historical example of when health care delivery was successful and was embraced rather than resisted as well as the ways in which the Tuareg have …

The Politics Of Space And Culture In Santiago, Chile's Street Markets, Joel Stillerman
The Politics Of Space And Culture In Santiago, Chile's Street Markets, Joel Stillerman
Peer Reviewed Articles
Recent discussions of contentious politics have focused on struggles in and over space and place. This article builds upon these concerns by using ethnographic, interview, and documentary data to analyze the spatial politics of street market vendors in Santiago, Chile. Drawing upon Lefebvre’s concepts of perceived, conceived, and lived space as well as ideas drawn from research on space and protest, I show how street market vendors build upon spatial routines, a sense of place, political alliances, and scale jumping in their self-defense strategies at the local, national, and international scales. The findings illustrate Lefebvre’s argument that the advance of …

Economic Inequality In Kathmandu: A Multi-Indicator Perspective, Udaya R. Wagle
Economic Inequality In Kathmandu: A Multi-Indicator Perspective, Udaya R. Wagle
Himalayan Policy Research Conference
Studying economic inequality is increasingly important because of its multidimensional effects on human and societal well-being. This paper examines economic inequality in Kathmandu using wealth, income, and consumption as its indicators. Amidst the finding that wealth, income, and consumption have mutually reinforcing relationships, recent survey data indicate that high income many not necessarily accumulate into wealth as normally expected. Data also show that the household and householder characteristics somewhat differ when it comes to explaining disparities in household wealth, income, and consumption. The suggestion that spatial segregation, human capital and capability, inheritance, and household composition are important determinants of economic …

UCHC Graduate School Presentations
The Practicum Project is a supervised service-learning experience that integrates curriculum with hands-on experience in a public health setting. All 2nd year students are expected to work collaboratively in assessing the extent, causes and public health responses to a selected public health problem confronting citizens of Connecticut. The focal topic for the 2006 Project was Health Literacy in Connecticut.
During this past spring, 17 students of our program, working alongside and in partnership with more than 75 community-based stakeholders across Connecticut, completed over 1800 hours of service-learning in pursuit of answers to 3 questions:
Can the present and future burden …
