Moralized Indulgence In The Age Of Inflation: How “Better-For-You” Dessert Brands Reframe Pleasure As Self-Care, Dariya Savrukova
Honors College Theses
In the modern U.S. food landscape, the line between indulgence and wellness has nearly disappeared. The booming “better-for-you” dessert industry, owned primarily by multinational giants such as Mondelēz International, PepsiCo, and Mars Inc., reframes high-sugar, high-calorie treats as acts of self-discipline or self-care. This phenomenon is often referred to as “healthwashing” (Tufts Health & Nutrition Letter, 2022), when through verbal and visual language, these companies transform indulgence into moral consumption, inviting consumers to feel virtuous through consumption. Many consumers crave stability and health, but navigate an environment saturated with manipulative design and ambiguous claims. “Better-for-you” branding exploits this gap by …

Effect Of Vocational Training Programs On The Mental Health Of Indian Women Living In Contexts Of Urban Poverty (Or Urban Slums), Sriramya Potluri
Graduate Doctoral Dissertations
Women living in contexts of urban poverty (IWLCUP) experience disproportionately high rates of psychological distress, yet their mental health needs remain largely underrecognized. Beyond individualized explanations, broader ecological perspectives situate these women’s distress within previously underemphasized macrolevel forces and acknowledge the role of inequity and related structural disparities (e.g., economic, sociocultural, political etc.) in their oppression and disempowerment, thereby contributing to increased psychological vulnerability. Such frameworks call for intervention efforts that reduce individual psychological risk by addressing structural determinants proximally and distally impacting the lives of IWLCUP. Specifically, targeting poverty and economic insecurity might drive positive downstream effects that ultimately …

Child Labor And State Constitutionalism, Andrew Hammond, Helen Hershkoff
Child Labor And State Constitutionalism, Andrew Hammond, Helen Hershkoff
Northwestern University Law Review
Almost ninety years after Congress banned “oppressive” child labor as part of the Fair Labor Standards Act, employers are pushing state legislatures to let them put children to work in dangerous poultry plants, at hazardous construction sites, and during late shifts on school nights. Perversely, calls to rollback federal protections are camouflaged in the rhetoric of parents’ rights, casting child labor regulation as intrusive, paternalistic, and even socialist—echoing the same corporate arguments used a century ago when the Child Labor Amendment to the U.S. Constitution went down in defeat. These arguments mask the desperate economic circumstances of a parent claiming …

Journal of Academic Ophthalmology
Background: Patients increasingly turn to large language models (LLMs), such as ChatGPT, for medical guidance, yet their reliability in ophthalmology remains understudied. Prior work has addressed readability and patient handout generation, but a comprehensive evaluation of ChatGPT’s procedural accuracy is lacking.
Purpose: To evaluate the accuracy, clinical appropriateness, and readability of ChatGPT-4.0 and ChatGPT-4.0-mini in responding to patient-centered questions about six common ophthalmologic procedures.
Methods: In March 2025, a cross-sectional qualitative study was conducted using standardized questions across five domains (indications, alternatives, procedural steps, risks, and recovery) for six ophthalmologic procedures: intravitreal injection, selective laser trabeculoplasty, YAG …

Here's the abstract from DP-2026-HLTH-001:
"This publication discloses an integrated, not-for-profit healthcare technology ecosystem comprising seven complementary AI-assisted subsystems: (1) an AI clinical intake and differential-diagnosis assistant, (2) a generic and accessible medicine alternative finder, (3) an AI-coordinated emergency transport dispatch layer, (4) a personalized food and nutrient deficiency analysis system, (5) a crowd-sourced food adulteration and quality repository, (6) a mental health longitudinal outcomes research engine, and (7) a drug and food combinatorial hypothesis engine. The subsystems share patient context, a common outcome dataset, and a unified governance model under which artificial intelligence operates in a strictly supervised, doctor-reinforcing …
