Practical Suggestions For Vegetarian Athletes, Kathleen M. Laquale
Movement Arts, Health Promotion and Leisure Studies Faculty Publications
The article recommends health practices and behavior for vegetarian athletes. Vegetarians can be categorized by the types of foods that they consume. Ayurvedic Concept Of Food And Nutrition, Amala Guha
SoM Articles
Ayurveda places special emphasis on Ahar (diet) and Anna (food) and believes that healthy nutrition nourishes the mind, body and soul. Ayurveda does not discriminate food to be good, or bad, instead it emphasizes various factors that influence food, such as its biological properties, origin, environmental factors, seasons, preparation, freshness, and provides a logical explanation of how to balance food according to one's dosha and physical needs.

Neuroimmune Interactions: A Bidirectional Flow That Leads To Health And Disease, Robert E. Cone
SoM Articles
The Vedic philosophy deals with harmony and balance between the mind and the body as well as interactions with nature. This ancient approach to health and well-being is being more and more appreciated in part as we understand the intimate relationship between the immune system, our major defense mechanism and the nervous system. Like other organ systems, the immune system is dependent on the central nervous system (CNS) and the endocrine system in its role for effective defense against foreign and domestic invaders.

Microarrays permit biologists to simultaneously measure the mRNA abundance of thousands of genes. An important issue facing investigators planning microarray experiments is how to estimate the sample size required for good statistical power. What is the projected sample size or number of replicate chips needed to address the multiple hypotheses with acceptable accuracy? Statistical methods exist for calculating power based upon a single hypothesis, using estimates of the variability in data from pilot studies. There is, however, a need for methods to estimate power and/or required sample sizes in situations where multiple hypotheses are being tested, such as in microarray …

Kathy Cerminara, Critical Essay: Musings on the Need to Convince Some People with Disabilities That End-of-Life-Decision-Making Advocates are Not Out to Get Them, 37 Loyola University of Chicago Law Journal 343 (2006). As others have noted, the importance of the Terri Schiavo case is not legal; the various Schiavo opinions broke no new legal ground other than the constitutional questions raised when legislatures began intervening to attempt to change the outcome of the end-of-life decision-making rulings. Rather, it was activism by certain disability rights and vitalist groups that so caught the attention of the public, the politicians and the …
