Women Fighting Poverty In Cameroon: A Legal Perspective!, Geraldine Chin C K G Chin
Women Fighting Poverty In Cameroon: A Legal Perspective!, Geraldine Chin C K G Chin
ExpressO
Poverty in Sub Saharan Africa has many causes, which range from the impact of the Structural Adjustment Programs, the huge foreign debt and policies that encourage mismanagement of state resources. This growing poverty and underdevelopment has attracted the attention of the international community to pursue programs aimed at attaining the UN Millennium Development Goals, foreign debt relief and increased development aid. During the introduction of policies that brought about economic hardship, African women were not consulted and their voices were not heard. Yet it is these women who feel most of the impact of these policies. During the period of …
Matthew Ford's Diet: An Application Of The Diet Problem, Matthew Ford
Matthew Ford's Diet: An Application Of The Diet Problem, Matthew Ford
Theses
Linear Programming has its origins in the 1940's, when complex planning problems needed to be solved to contribute to the wartime operations. The Diet Problem was one of those problems. My project deals with the formulation of my own diet problem tailored to my personal tastes where I minimize the cost of eating for one week while maintaining a healthy diet. I gathered data for different meals as well as nutritional information such as calorie count and number of servings. The formulation was eventually modified to introduce variety into the diet.

The Effects Of Alcohol Consumption On Women's Responses To Child Misbehavior, Catherine M. Palmer
The Effects Of Alcohol Consumption On Women's Responses To Child Misbehavior, Catherine M. Palmer
Theses and Dissertations
Many studies have demonstrated a correlation between alcohol abuse and child abuse or neglect, but few have examined whether alcohol consumption itself contributes to poor parenting. The present study investigated the effects of a medium-large dose of alcohol on women's responses to child misbehavior. The participants were 80 medically and psychologically healthy women who were randomly assigned to one of four beverage conditions in a balanced placebo design. Those in an alcohol condition received a moderately high dose, defined as 2 ml of 80-proof vodka per kg of body weight. After consuming their beverages, the women were presented with video …

John Dewey’S Philosophy Of Education Is Alive And Well, Rebecca L. Carver, Richard P. Enfield
John Dewey’S Philosophy Of Education Is Alive And Well, Rebecca L. Carver, Richard P. Enfield
Education and Culture
Offering an introduction to both John Dewey’s philosophy of education and the 4-H Youth Development Program, this paper draws clear connections between these two topics. Concepts explored include Dewey’s principles of continuity and interaction, and contagion with respect to learning. Roles of educational leaders (including teachers) are investigated in the context of a discussion about the structuring of opportunities for students to develop habits of meaningful and life-long learning. Specific examples are described in depth to demonstrate, from a Deweyan perspective, the educational process and value of 4-H participation. Brief comments are made about the place of 4-H in the …

Seasonal Changes In Dry Matter Partitioning, Yield, And Crude Protein Of Intermediate Wheatgrass And Smooth Bromegrass, Alexander J. Smart, Walter H. Schacht, Jerry D. Volesky, Lowell E. Moser
Seasonal Changes In Dry Matter Partitioning, Yield, And Crude Protein Of Intermediate Wheatgrass And Smooth Bromegrass, Alexander J. Smart, Walter H. Schacht, Jerry D. Volesky, Lowell E. Moser
Department of Agronomy and Horticulture: Faculty Publications
Seasonal patterns of dry matter partitioning and nutritive value of leaf and stem components of grass species is important for selecting species for planting, planning grazing strategies, and making management decisions. Our objective was to compare dry matter yield and crude protein (CP) yield of blade, sheath, and stem fractions of intermediate wheatgrass [Elytrigia intermedia (Host) Nevski] and smooth bromegrass (Bromus inermis Leyss.) during the growing season. Intermediate wheatgrass and smooth bromegrass were sampled on a weekly basis from 14 May to 25 June in 1997 and from 5 May to 23 June in 1998 at Lincoln, NE. …
Biochemical Basis Of Specialization For Dispersal Vs. Reproduction In A Wing-Polymorphic Cricket: Morph-Specific Metabolism Of Amino Acids, Zhangwu Zhao, Anthony J. Zera
Biochemical Basis Of Specialization For Dispersal Vs. Reproduction In A Wing-Polymorphic Cricket: Morph-Specific Metabolism Of Amino Acids, Zhangwu Zhao, Anthony J. Zera
Anthony Zera Publications
The biochemical basis of specializations for dispersal vs. reproduction is an understudied aspect of dispersal polymorphism in insects. Using a radiolabelled amino acid, we quantified differences in in vivo amino acid metabolism between morphs of the wing-polymorphic cricket, Gryllus firmus, that trade-off early age reproduction and dispersal capability. Studies were conducted in crickets fed a variety of diets expected to influence amino acid and lipid metabolism. On the day of molt to adulthood, prior to the morph-specific trade-off between ovarian growth and biochemical preparation for flight (e.g. biosynthesis of triglyceride flight fuel), morphs did not differ in any aspect of …
A Default-Logic Paradigm For Legal Reasoning And Factfinding, Vern R. Walker
A Default-Logic Paradigm For Legal Reasoning And Factfinding, Vern R. Walker
ExpressO
Unlike research in linguistics and artificial intelligence, legal research has not used advances in logical theory very effectively. This article uses default logic to develop a paradigm for analyzing all aspects of legal reasoning, including factfinding. The article provides a formal model that integrates legal rules and policies with the evaluation of both expert and non-expert evidence – whether the reasoning occurs in courts or administrative agencies, and whether in domestic, foreign, or international legal systems. This paradigm can standardize the representation of legal reasoning, guide empirical research into the dynamics of such reasoning, and put the representations and research …

The Frat was the official member publication of the National Fraternal Society of the Deaf (NFSD). First established in 1902, the publication ran for just over a century, until its closure in 2006.---NFSD was an insurance business established in 1901.
