METHODS: The study included 15 schools throughout the city center of Antalya, Turkey during the period November 2002-March 2003. A total of 2465 school children (boys 1233, girls 1232) aged 6-17 years were chosen using a population based stratified cluster sampling method. Comparison Of Pond Production Of Phase-Iii Sunshine Bass Fed 32-, 36-, And 40%-Crude-Protein Diets With Fixed Energy : Protein Ratios, James E. Wetzel, Craig S. Kasper, Christopher C. Kohler

We stocked phase-III sunshine bass (white bass Morone chrysops ♀ × striped bass M. saxatilis ♂) at a rate of 6,188 fingerlings/ha into twelve 0.04-ha earthen ponds supplied with continuous aeration. Three dietary treatments were randomly assigned to quadruplicate ponds. Sunshine bass were fed to apparent satiation once daily after average initial weight (mean ± SE = 214 ± 5 g) and total length (245 ± 1.6 mm) were determined. Diets were formulated to conserve the estimated digestible energy:crude protein (CP) ratio (9.3 kcal/g protein) and represented the following CP and energy values fed to fish: 32% CP (3,000 kcal/kg), …

Occupational Stress And Slavery: Evidence From Bridgetown, Barbados, Sarah Muno
Occupational Stress And Slavery: Evidence From Bridgetown, Barbados, Sarah Muno
Masters Theses
In 1996 and 2000, construction workers uncovered unmarked burial grounds in the Pierhead and Fontabelle sections of Bridgetown, Barbados. The human remains were removed in salvage excavation and are now housed at the University of the West Indies and the Barbados Museum and Historical Society. The associated grave goods, documentary record, and initial osteological analysis indicate these individuals were part of the enslaved workforce during the early to mid- eighteenth century. This thesis will explore the presence of vertebral osteophytosis, vertebral anterior wedge compression fractures, vertebral apophyseal facet remodeling and musculoskeletal stress markers among the human remains from Pierhead and …

The People’S Agent: Executive Branch Secrecy And Accountability In An Age Of Terrorism, Sidney A. Shapiro, Rena I. Steinzor
Law and Contemporary Problems
Shapiro and Steinzor apply the agency theory to the question of how much secrecy is too much. They use the theory to evaluate the impact of burgeoning secrecy in the likelihood that the executive branch officials will engage in faithful and forceful implementation of statutory materials, particularly in the arenas of protecting public health, safety, and natural resources.

Does A Specialist Parasitoid Adapt To Its Host On A New Host Plant?, A. Roßbach, B. Löhr, S. Vidal
All Peer-Reviewed Publications
The host plant expansion of a diamondback moth, Plutella xylostella (L.) (DBM) strain to snowpea (Pisum sativum L.) raised the question whether a specialist parasitoid Diadegma semiclausum (DS) could be conditioned to locate and parasitize its host on the new host plant. In a specialist parasitoid a behavioural change towards a plant outside the normal host plant range of its host due to developmental experience is not expected. The responsive behaviour, parasitism rates and fitness of three subsequent DS generations were investigated on the snowpea-strain of DBM. After three generations of DS on the pea 62.5% of females chose an …

After School Policy In The State Of Michigan, Erica Curry
SPNA Review
Young people spend just 20 percent of their waking hours in school. Nationwide, 28 million children between the ages of 6 and 17 have parents who work outside the home. These children need care and supervision before and after school, over the summer, and during school breaks. Often, the supply does not meet the demand, and many of the children are not able to get the care and supervision they need. In fact, lack of funding is causing many school-age programs to reduce services or to shut down completely. The lack of care is not without consequences. This paper examines …

Taking Care Of Your Nutritional And Physical Needs, Joan Hegerfeld
Taking Care Of Your Nutritional And Physical Needs, Joan Hegerfeld
SDSU Extension Extra Archives
When asked what they value most, many people will say their health. However, when faced with a stressful situation that will not go away, the same people forget all about their health and start worrying. Farm and ranch families struggle with extreme stress from uncontrollable forces such as weather, low market prices, or farm machinery breaking down. For many farmers, ranchers, and farm workers, decision making and adjusting to the extraordinary stress consumes their whole thinking, their whole days, their sleepless nights. Their livelihood is dependent upon forces over which they have no control. Eating right and getting adequate amounts …

The basic purpose of health insurance is protection. It protects the policyholder and his or her family from a designated catastrophic loss. It’s all about the “law of large numbers.” The health risk identified is transferred to a large group of individuals. The group shares in the financial losses suffered by a few members of the group, reducing the cost to any individual or family.

Higher Power In Higher Education: How A South Carolina Technical College Compares Spiritually With Liberal Arts Learners, George Stanley Reeley
Essays in Education
While increasing numbers of college students nationwide share tenets that embody spirituality, the problem is that not all types of institutions of higher learning recognize such tenets as integral to their mission or curricula. Two-year technical college graduates tend to enter (and often reenter) into socio-economic mainstream ahead of fouryear liberal arts graduates; however, researchers agree institutions that foster both cognitive and affective learning environments will prepare graduates better for diversity and rapid change the future holds. This study compared spiritual beliefs of students at one technical college with students attending two liberal arts universities in South Carolina. The premise …

Effects Of Daily Oral Care With 0.12% Chlorhexidine Gluconate And A Standard Oral Care Protocol On The Development Of Nosocomial Pneumonia In Intubated Patients: A Pilot Study, Michelle Bopp, Michele Darby, Karin C. Loftin, Sharon Broscious
Dental Hygiene Faculty Publications
Purpose. The purpose of this pilot study was to determine if a difference existed between nosocomial pneumonia rates for intubated critical care unit (CCU) patients who received twice-daily oral hygiene care with 0.12% chlorhexidine gluconate and those who received the standard oral care. Methods. Over seven months (February to August), CCU patients were identified through screening and informed consent procedures, and randomized into 1 of 2 groups. Over the 7 months, due to the critically ill nature of the patients, only 5 subjects were enrolled. While in the study, twice-daily oral hygiene care consisted of brushing the cheeks, teeth, and …
Water, Development, And State Security In South Asia: Scenarios For China And India, Ray Chandrasekara, John M. Polimeni
Water, Development, And State Security In South Asia: Scenarios For China And India, Ray Chandrasekara, John M. Polimeni
Reconstruction: Studies in Contemporary Culture
Conflict over water resources is rare and has not occurred for thousands of years. However, the dynamics in South Asia are changing so rapidly that a conflict in the not-so-near future may be unavoidable. Water shortages could have the nonlinear effects of food shortages, political instability, migration problems, and diminished economic growth. All of these factors, caused by water shortages, could be a driver of conflict in the region, causing territorial disputes. Global instability would be sure to follow as both the U.S., attempting to protect their national security interests, and China, reacting as the regional power, tries to intervene. …
