Scaling Up A Reproductive Health Curriculum In Youth Training Courses, Laila Rahman, M. Mazharul Islam, Ubaidur Rob, Ismat Bhuiya, M.E. Khan

Reproductive Health

The Population Council’s Frontiers in Reproductive Health (FRONTIERS) program, in collaboration with the Bangladesh Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the Urban Family Health Partnership, and two nongovernmental service delivery partners, carried out the Global Youth project in northwestern Bangladesh from 1999–2003. The important lesson learned from that project was that reproductive health education could increase reproductive health knowledge in adolescents, particularly in areas related to reproductive biology, family planning, pregnancy, sexually transmitted infections, HIV, and AIDS. The population-based surveys further showed that contrary to common belief, reproductive health education does not increase sexual activity; instead it increases the use …

The objectives of this study were to assess the Kenyan Ministry of Health’s capacity to adapt focused antenatal care (ANC) at the service delivery level so that it can be sustained, and to examine the extent to which adaptation of the package has increased coverage and quality of key ANC services and the overall quality of care received by pregnant women. The study showed that focused ANC is acceptable to both clients and providers and the approach has also received tremendous support from both the government and health development partners. However, the sustainability of the focused ANC package is contingent …

Re-Hearing The Gospel: Toward New Practices For Evangelism And Discipleship, Todd Hunter Jan 2006

Re-Hearing The Gospel: Toward New Practices For Evangelism And Discipleship, Todd Hunter

Doctor of Ministry

The ministry problem addressed in this dissertation is: approaches to evangelism and discipleship are not working well because the works and words of Jesus have been reduced to "going to heaven when you die," instead of "living a Kingdom life now for the sake of the world." Chapter 1 discusses the problem of a disenstoryed, to coin an apt term for this context, bullet-point theology and uses The Alpha Course, as a step in the right direction. Alpha, while not explicitly "storied" in its approach, is far more holistic than an average tract on the Gospel. In Chapter 2, …

Ketogenic Diet. Update And Application, Nawal A. Bahassan, Mohammed M. Jan Jan 2006

Ketogenic Diet. Update And Application, Nawal A. Bahassan, Mohammed M. Jan

Neurosciences

The ketogenic diet is a high-fat, low-carbohydrate, and adequate-protein diet for the treatment of intractable seizures in children, initially introduced in 1921 to mimic the biochemical changes associated with fasting. The diet is individually calculated and rigidly controlled, requiring a comprehensive medical team approach. Although there are adverse, as well as, beneficial effects, several studies have proved its tolerability and efficacy in children with medically refractory epilepsy. Children must be carefully selected, monitored, and followed, and the parents must be committed. The division of Pediatric Neurology at King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Center in Jeddah is one of very …

Chronic Suppurative Otitis Media With Intracranial Complication, Abdulaziz A. Aldakhail Jan 2006

Chronic Suppurative Otitis Media With Intracranial Complication, Abdulaziz A. Aldakhail

Neurosciences

A complication of otitis media is defined as a spread of infection beyond the pneumatized area of the temporal bone and the associated mucosa. Complications can be classified as intra temporal or intra cranial, which includes extradural abscess, brain abscess, subdural abscess, sigmoid sinus thrombophlebitis, otic hydrocephalus, and meningitis. Since the introduction of antibiotics, intra cranial complications in otitis media are less common, however, the occurrence should not be underestimated due to their associated morbidity and mortality. Herein, we report a case of chronic suppurative otitis media (CSOM) with intra cranial complication (brain abscess) in a 25-year-old male patient with …

Ieee 802.11b Wireless Lan Sensor System And Antenna Design, Leonard Guerra

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

A novel approach to miniaturizing an 802.11b WLAN card using folded-flex ultra-thin substrates is presented. A 73 percent reduction in size was realized using hybrid circuits on FR4 and polyimide. There is even more potential for further reduction if more copper layers are used. The miniaturized 802.11b WLAN cards were used to design 802.11b wireless sensor nodes. A research test-bed was setup to study how 802.11b networked sensor nodes could operate in the field. There are many applications for such sensor networks like habitat monitoring, object tracking, seismic detection, military surveillance, or fire detection to name a few. This investigation …

From The Edge, Leslie Corder Rousseau Jan 2006

From The Edge, Leslie Corder Rousseau

Theses and Dissertations

Paintings and drawings are the physical representations of my dialogue with the world around me. Art is how I connect to what is too large, or too vague, or too personally meaningful to express in any other way. Space and its transformation by light and color have always been central to this dialogue. I am particularly intrigued by spatial ambiguity. Space exists for us only in how it relates to us and so, space changes. One viewpoint or state of mind might make space seem freeing, while another makes the same space feel confining. Barriers are sometimes delineated, sometimes obscured. …

A Model For Successful Teamwork, Mohamed Bakir Jan 2006

A Model For Successful Teamwork, Mohamed Bakir

Theses : Honours

Increasingly, there have been greater expectations from industry and employers that universities in Australian focus on developing student generic skills, core competencies or graduate attributes. As a result, key skills included in the mission statements of most universities tend to include higher-level aims relating to critical thinking, lifelong learning and teamwork. These generic skills and others, are considered essential for successful work place practice and universities are constantly being called upon to produce graduates that can show these skills. This is not an easy task, and universities are trying different approaches to try and satisfy these needs, e.g. e-portfolios and …

East O' The Sun And West O' The Moon: The Construction Of National Identity In Norwegian Fashion Photography, Anne-Britt Kjoensburg Jan 2006

East O' The Sun And West O' The Moon: The Construction Of National Identity In Norwegian Fashion Photography, Anne-Britt Kjoensburg

Theses : Honours

This exegesis compliments my photographic project which was to produce a body of work that explores Norwegian identity through fashion using myths and iconography to communicate Norwegian-ness, and depicts the Norwegian lifestyle in a surprising and humorous way. My aim has been to find out if there is any distinctive aesthetic approach/style that constructs, defines and reproduces Norwegian identity, and if Norwegian fashion photography is being influenced by the resurgence of interest in Norwegian style. I have looked at how humans use fashion as a technique to construct various identities rather than a mask that covers the self and how …
