Theatre And The Rwandan Genocide, Marie-Chantal Kalisa Oct 2006

Theatre And The Rwandan Genocide, Marie-Chantal Kalisa

French Language and Literature Papers

In 1994, Rwanda was the scene of genocide, or more precisely in French, “le théâtre du génocide” (theatre of genocide). Perpetrators and victims played their role while the rest of the world watched the “spectacle” live on television. Perhaps because of its spectacular aspect, the Rwandan genocide has inspired a number of artistic materials. In the last decade, we have indeed witnessed the growth of literary and artistic expression in relation to the Rwandan genocide. Survivors and witnesses have told their stories in books and songs. Journalists, as well as other travelers “to the end of Rwanda,” to use Véronique …

The Free Energy Of Dissociation Of Oligomeric Structure In Phycocyanin Is Not Linear With Denaturant, Katie L. Thoren, Katelyn B. Connell, Taylor E. Robinson, David D. Shellhamer, Margaret S. Tammaro, Yvonne Gindt Oct 2006

The Free Energy Of Dissociation Of Oligomeric Structure In Phycocyanin Is Not Linear With Denaturant, Katie L. Thoren, Katelyn B. Connell, Taylor E. Robinson, David D. Shellhamer, Margaret S. Tammaro, Yvonne Gindt

Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry Faculty Scholarship and Creative Works

Using SEC HPLC and fluorescence anisotropy, absorption spectra were assigned to the specific oligomeric structures found with phycocyanin. The absorption spectra were used to quantify the population of each oligomeric form of the protein as a function of both urea concentration and temperature. Phycocyanin hexamers dissociate to trimers with equilibrium constants of 10 -6 to 10-5. Phycocyanin trimers dissociate to monomers with equilibrium constants of 10-15 to 10-12. Both dissociation constants increase linearly with increasing urea concentration, and ΔG° values calculated from the equilibrium constants fit best with an exponential function. Our findings appear in contrast with the commonly used …

Aluminum Bioavailability From The Approved Food Additive Leavening Agent Acidic Sodium Aluminum Phosphate, Incorporated Into A Baked Good, Is Lower Than From Water, Robert A. Yokel, Rebecca L. Florence Oct 2006

Aluminum Bioavailability From The Approved Food Additive Leavening Agent Acidic Sodium Aluminum Phosphate, Incorporated Into A Baked Good, Is Lower Than From Water, Robert A. Yokel, Rebecca L. Florence

Pharmaceutical Sciences Faculty Publications

There are estimates of oral aluminum (Al) bioavailability from drinking water, but little information on Al bioavailability from foods. Foods contribute ∼95% and drinking water 1–2% of the typical human's daily Al intake. The objectives were to estimate oral Al bioavailability from a representative food containing the food additive acidic sodium aluminum phosphate (acidic SALP), a leavening agent in baked goods. Rats were acclimated to a special diet that resulted in no stomach contents 14 h after its withdrawal. They were trained to rapidly consume a biscuit containing 1.5% acidic SALP. Oral Al bioavailability was then determined from a biscuit …

Inclusion And Equity In Hpe Policy And Practice: An Evaluation Of School Responses Within Three Brisbane Catholic Education (Bce) Primary Schools., Tj Lynch Oct 2006

Inclusion And Equity In Hpe Policy And Practice: An Evaluation Of School Responses Within Three Brisbane Catholic Education (Bce) Primary Schools., Tj Lynch

Plymouth Institute of Education

The 1999 Queensland P-10 Health and Physical Education syllabus adopted a socio-cultural approach to learning, underpinned by social justice principles which include diversity, equity and supportive environments. This approach has afforded HPE even greater relevance in Catholic schools. Successful implementation of inclusion and equity within the syllabus requires teachers to have an understanding of various pedagogies and an awareness of when to choose the most appropriate. This research has been designed within a constructionist paradigm. An interpretivist study was conducted employing symbolic interactionism. This qualitative, interpretive study is most appropriate as meanings were constructed. The case study methodology was chosen …

An Auditory Classifier Employing A Wavelet Neural Network Implemented In A Digital Design, Jonathan Hughes Oct 2006

An Auditory Classifier Employing A Wavelet Neural Network Implemented In A Digital Design, Jonathan Hughes

Theses

This thesis addresses the problem of classifying audio as either voice or music. The goal was to solve this problem by means of digital logic circuit, capable of performing the classification in real time. Since digital audio is essentially a discrete non-periodic timeseries, it was necessary to extract features from the audio which are suitable for classification. The discrete wavelet transform combined with a feature extraction method was found to produce such features. The task of classifying these features was found to be best performed by an artificial neural network. Collectively known as a wavelet neural network, the digital logic …
