Nebraska 4-H Household Technology And Interest Survey, Bradley S. Barker, Debra Kay Meier

Nebraska 4-H Clubs: Historical Materials and Publications

Nationally, 4-H has placed renewed emphasis in the areas of Science and Technology as a way to prepare youth for the 21st century workplace. Home access may become necessary to youth as they develop science and technology literacy via 4-H programs. A survey was sent to a random sample of 1,414 Nebraska families from a total population of 13,516. The survey examined the percentage of families that have access to computers and the Internet at home, computer components, use characteristics and specific areas of interest in science and technology. Results indicate that 96 percent of Nebraska 4-H families have access …

Deer-Vehicle Accident Hotspots In Northwest Clackamas County, Oregon, Linda K. Anderson Jan 2006

Deer-Vehicle Accident Hotspots In Northwest Clackamas County, Oregon, Linda K. Anderson

Dissertations and Theses

Road-kill of wildlife is common on Portland, Oregon's suburban fringe where development has increased road densities and traffic volume in rural areas. I identify the spatial and temporal patterns of black-tailed deer (Odocoileus hemionus columbianus) deer-vehicle accidents (DVA) at the suburban/rural interface of developing northwest Clackamas County using deer carcass pickup reports for county maintained roads for 1997-2004 and Oregon Department of Transportation deer-vehicle accident reports for 1996-2004. No black-tailed deer DVA models exist in the literature.

DVA increased 121% from 1997 to 1999 followed by a 26% decline by 2004. The initial DVA increase appears related to …

Does Space Matter To The Employment Of Tanf Recipients? Evidence From A Dynamic Discrete Choice Model With Unobserved Effects, Shiferaw Gurmu, Keith R. Ihlanfeldt, William J. Smith Jan 2006

Does Space Matter To The Employment Of Tanf Recipients? Evidence From A Dynamic Discrete Choice Model With Unobserved Effects, Shiferaw Gurmu, Keith R. Ihlanfeldt, William J. Smith

University of Kentucky Center for Poverty Research Discussion Paper Series

We study the factors affecting the employment probability of Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) recipients using recent quarterly panel data from Atlanta, Georgia. A central focus of our study is to determine whether the TANF recipient’s proximity to job opportunity and the availability of childcare affect her probability of full-time employment. Both static and dynamic models of employment choice are estimated that control for unobserved individual effects. We estimate models separately for a sub-sample of TANF recipients living in public housing, whose residential locations can be considered exogenously determined. We find substantial evidence that individual and family characteristics (such …

Anti-Employer Blogging: Employee Breach Of The Duty Of Loyalty And The Procedure For Allowing Discovery Of A Blogger’S Identity Before Service Of Process Is Effected, Konrad Lee Jan 2006

Anti-Employer Blogging: Employee Breach Of The Duty Of Loyalty And The Procedure For Allowing Discovery Of A Blogger’S Identity Before Service Of Process Is Effected, Konrad Lee

Duke Law & Technology Review

The rapid rise in anonymous anti-employer internet blogs by disgruntled employees has created a tension between the liberty interests of employees in free speech and privacy and employers' rights to be free from defamation, disparagement and disclosure of confidential information by an employee. This iBrief argues that the anonymity of anti-employer bloggers should not shield employees from breach of the duty of loyalty claims under tort and contract law, and that Congress should enact rules to govern the disclosure of blogger identity.
