Ozone Variability In The Midlatitude Upper Troposphere And Lower Stratosphere Diagnosed From A Monthly Sage Ii Climatology Relative To The Tropopause, Pi-Huan Wang, Derek M. Cunnold, Charles R. Trepte, Hsiang J. Wang, Ping Jing
School of Environmental Sustainability: Faculty Publications and Other Works
[1] A midlatitude (25°–65°) monthly zonal median ozone climatology in the upper troposphere and lower stratosphere (UTLS), from 8 to 20 km with a 0.5-km vertical resolution and a 5° latitudinal resolution, is developed on the basis of version 6.2 (V6.2) ozone profile retrievals from the Stratospheric Aerosol and Gas Experiment (SAGE) II measurements from October 1984 to August 2005. To avoid mixing of the tropospheric ozone data with stratospheric values, the thermal tropopause height is used as a base altitude for developing the climatology (the monthly mean tropopause height has been added back to the climatological profile). This feature …

The state legislature’s decision to leave the creation of affordable housing to New York’s local governments has resulted in a segmented, slowly evolving, and insufficient resolution to a statewide problem. For example, the Orange County Supreme Court, in Land Master v. Montgomery, struck down a zoning law that eliminated all as-of-right multifamily development, in a municipality where affordable housing was in urgent need. This article reviews comprehensive initiatives from other states, and suggests that through the adoption of a state legislation and planning, the affordable housing problem is rectifiable

Temporal Trends And Variability Of Daily Maximum And Minimum, Extreme Temperature Events, And Growing Season Length Over The Eastern And Central Tibetan Plateau During 1961–2003, Xiaodong Liu, Zhi-Yong Yin, Xuemei Shao, Ningsheng Qin
Environmental and Ocean Sciences: Faculty Scholarship
Daily and monthly maximum and minimum surface air temperatures at 66 weather stations over the eastern and central Tibetan Plateau with elevations above 2000 m were analyzed for temporal trends and spatial variation patterns during the period 1961–2003. Statistically significant warming trends were identified in various measures of the temperature regime, such as temperatures of extreme events and diurnal temperature range. The warming trends in winter nighttime temperatures were among the highest when compared with other regions. We also confirmed the asymmetric pattern of greater warming trends in minimum or nighttime temperatures as compared to the daytime temperatures. The warming …

Toward A Critical Ethnography Of Librarian-Supported Collaborative Learning, Terrence W. Epperson
Toward A Critical Ethnography Of Librarian-Supported Collaborative Learning, Terrence W. Epperson
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
The emerging multidisciplinary field of computer-supported collaborative learning (CSCL) has the potential to address several theoretical, political, and praxis issues within academic librarianship. Librarians are uniquely situated to contribute to the ongoing development of CSCL, and the library is an ideal “place” for the development, implementation, and evaluation of collaborative learning strategies and systems. The author presents three pressing, interrelated challenges within library and information science (LIS) and discusses how CSCL analyzes the social production of knowledge, emphasizing the distinction between cooperative and collaborative learning. Issues of shared concern between LIS and CSCL can best be addressed through ethnographic analysis …

Effect Of Cooperative, Competitive, And Individual Use Of Self Instruction Method (Sim) On Learners' Achievement In Library Skills, Ebong Nyama Nkebem, Henry Itohowo
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
Self instruction is an instructional technique that is gaining popularity among teachers. Using this technique, students use instructional materials prepared by their teachers. Three approaches – cooperation, competition, and individual approaches were tested on randomly-assigned groups of students. A one-way Anova showed a significant differential effect for this instructional technique on academic achievement in library skills.
