Single Molecule Detection Systems And Methods, John G. K. Williams, Gregory R. Bashford Oct 2006

Single Molecule Detection Systems And Methods, John G. K. Williams, Gregory R. Bashford

Biomedical Imaging and Biosignal Analysis Laboratory

A micofluidic system is provided that includes a substrate, a first microchannel disposed in the substrate for providing a reactant to a reaction zone, a second microchannel disposed in the substrate, the third microchannel providing fluid communication between the first and second microchannels. The system also typically includes first and second electrodes, positioned at opposite ends of the second microchannel, for providing an electric field within the second microchannel. In operation, when the reactant is in the reaction zone, a reaction product is produced having a net electric charge different from the electric of the reactant.

The Neural Basis Of Representative Democracy, John R. Alford, John R. Hibbing Oct 2006

The Neural Basis Of Representative Democracy, John R. Alford, John R. Hibbing

Department of Political Science: Hendricks Symposium

In politics specifically and society generally people often make decisions on behalf of others or experience the results of decisions made on their behalf. In exactly what manner is this important class of decisions different from traditional situations in which people make decisions on their own behalf? How are people’s behavioral and thinking patterns altered by shifting from personal to representational decision-making? Empirical social science research has provided little information on these questions, so in this paper, we draw on evolutionary theory and current knowledge of neuroanatomy to formulate a set of expectations regarding the differences between the decisions and …

Building America Industrialized Housing Partnership (Baihp), Final Project Report, September 1, 1999 - June 30, 2006, Florida Solar Energy Center, Janet Mcilvaine

FSEC Energy Research Center®

This final report summarizes the work conducted by the Building America Industrialized Housing Partnership (www.baihp.org ) for the period 9/1/99 - 6/30/06. BAIHP is led by the Florida Solar Energy Center of the University of Central Florida and focuses on factory built housing. In partnership with over 50 factory and site builders, work was performed in two main areas - research and technical assistance.

In the research area -- through site visits in over 75 problem homes, we discovered the prime causes of moisture problems in some manufactured homes and our industry partners adopted our solutions to nearly eliminate this …

Monitoring And Correction Of Geometric Distortion In Projected Displays, Christopher O. Jaynes, Robert M. Steele Oct 2006

Monitoring And Correction Of Geometric Distortion In Projected Displays, Christopher O. Jaynes, Robert M. Steele

Computer Science Faculty Patents

A technique, and associated system and computer executable program code on a computer readable storage medium, for automatically correcting distortion of a front-projected display under observation by at least one camera. The technique may be employed in a myriad of front-projected display environments, e.g., single or multiple projectors and cameras are used. The technique includes: observing a first image, projected from at least one projector, comprising at least one target distribution of light intensities; for each conglomeration of white pixels of a difference image, compute a bounding box comprising a corresponding conglomeration of pixels in a framebuffer information of the …

A Novel 4-Neuron Hopfield An Using Set Technology., Sameh Rehan

Mansoura Engineering Journal

Single Electron Tunneling (SET) technology introduces more potential for feature size reduction compared with well-established silicon-based CMOS technology. The SET technology offers the ability to control the motion of individual electrons in the designed circuits, In this paper some of the basic Single Electron Circuits (SECs) found in the literature, are reviewed. The complete schematic diagrams of these basic SECs (inc. parameters for used devices) along with the corresponding simulation results (using the famous Monte Carlo simulator; SIMON 2.0) of these SEC are included. Finally, a novel 4-neuronHopfield ANN SEC is introduced. The full design (inc. detailed schematic diagram) and …

System And Method For Immunosensor Regeneration, Shekhar Bhansali, Beverly A. Rzigalinski, Hyoungjin Cho

USF Patents

The present invention allows for regeneration of any chemical and biological sensor systems without totally destroying the primary antibodies in the system. The present invention provides regeneration of the sensor by debinding of the antigen/antibody complex utilizing a controlled electrical impulse. The technique is generic and can be used with most immunoassay-based detectors.
