When Reintroductions Are Augmentations: The Genetic Legacy Of Fishers (Martes Pennanti) In Montana, Ray S. Vinkey, Michael K. Schwartz, Kevin S. Mckelvey, Kerry R. Foresman, Kristine L. Pilgrim, Brian J. Giddings, Eric C. Lofroth
United States Department of Agriculture, Forest Service / University of Nebraska-Lincoln: Faculty Publications
Fishers (Martes pennanti) were purportedly extirpated from Montana by 1930 and extant populations are assumed to be descended from translocated fishers. To determine the lineage of fisher populations, we sequenced 2 regions of the mitochondrial DNA genome from 207 tissue samples from British Columbia, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Montana. In northwestern Montana, fishers share haplotypes with samples from the upper Midwest and British Columbia; in west-central Montana, we detected haplotypes found in British Columbia samples, but also detected a control region and cytochrome-b haplotype not found in source populations. Based on the unique haplotypes found in west-central Montana, …

Lark Bunting (Calamospiza Melanocorys): A Technical Conservation Assessment, Diane L. H. Neudorf, Rebecca A. Bodily, Thomas G. Shane
United States Department of Agriculture, Forest Service / University of Nebraska-Lincoln: Faculty Publications
The Global and U.S. National Heritage Programs give the lark bunting (Calamospiza melanocorys) a conservation ranking of G5 and N5 respectively, which indicates that the species is widespread and secure. The Canadian National Heritage Program designates the lark bunting as N4, which indicates the species is uncommon but apparently secure with some cause for concern over the longterm (NatureServe 2005). The lark bunting is a Management Indicator Species on the Pawnee National Grassland, which is managed by the Rocky Mountain Region (Region 2) of the USDA Forest Service (USFS). A recent study suggests that lark bunting populations on …

Shakespeare And The Marginalized “Others”, Carole Levin
Shakespeare And The Marginalized “Others”, Carole Levin
Department of History: Faculty Publications
When we think of the London and England of Shakespeare and Elizabeth I, traditionally we have assumed a fairly homogeneous society. But more recently scholars have recognized that England, and especially the London of early modern England, was instead a truly heterogeneous place, as was the Edinburgh of early modern Scotland. In early modern British cities, there was a wide range of peoples of different statuses and backgrounds. This chapter discusses the actual lives of those somehow perceived as different, attitudes about them, and how these attitudes were reflected in the drama of the time, especially in the works of …
The Cabining Of Rosenberger: Locke V. Davey And The Broad Nondiscrimination Principle That Never Was, Alan M. Trammell
The Cabining Of Rosenberger: Locke V. Davey And The Broad Nondiscrimination Principle That Never Was, Alan M. Trammell
Scholarly Articles
In Rosenberger (1995), the Supreme Court decided that the University of Virginia could not exclude religious organizations from an activities fund that subsidized student organizations. Nine years later, the Court in Locke v. Davey held that Washington could exclude students of devotional theology from a generally available scholarship program; there was, in the Court’s words, “play in the joints” between what the Establishment Clause forbids and what the Free Exercise Clause requires. The cases seemed to contradict one another.
This Note explores whether Rosenberger announced a broad principle of nondiscrimination with respect to religion and whether Davey reneged on that …

Fisheries Management Papers
The CAP’s primary responsibility was to develop criteria for access and allocation within the context of the management framework developed by the MPP. It is therefore important that this management paper is read in conjunction with the papers prepared by the MPP that outline the recommended management arrangements for the Gascoyne (Fisheries Management Paper No. 205) and the West Coast (Fisheries Management Paper No. 206) regions.

Fisheries Management Papers
The purpose of this review paper is to present the options for managing the fishery and to compare the current fishing effort control system to a more flexible one and to two types of individually transferable quota (ITQ) management systems, one with the current effort controls and the other without or with reduced1 effort controls.

Economic Research Associates (ERA) was commissioned to evaluate the relative ‘socio-economic’ benefits of alternative management Scenarios for the Western Rock Lobster Managed Fishery. This study is intended as input into industry’s consideration of the future management policy direction for the fishery.

Fisheries Management Papers
This report is on work-in-progress and is based on the research and data collection undertaken in the first two phases of the project. These two phases focused on the audit of available secondary data and collection of primary data that were used in preparing the profiles of the 17 communities included in the study. A further analysis of the interview transcripts on the views of other stakeholders will be undertaken. A telephone survey focusing on measuring social capital and cohesion in the 17 communities has also been undertaken and is currently being analysed. Additional consultations focused on specific issues, and …

Assessment Of Western Rock Lobster Strategic Management Options. How Do Quota Management Systems Work In Rock Lobster Fisheries? Vol. 4, Tim Bray, Steven Gill, Ron Edwards
Fisheries Management Papers
Quota management systems are now in place for the New Zealand, Tasmanian and South Australian rock lobster fisheries. New Zealand was the first to move to QMS (1989), followed by the Southern Zone of South Australia (1993), Tasmania (1998) and Northern Zone South Australia (2001). As part of a review of the system of management used for the West Coast Rock Lobster Fishery, a West Australian delegation visited New Zealand, Tasmania and South Australia in 2004 to learn more about the management systems in place for their respective rock lobster fisheries.

A Highly Efficient Transient Protoplast System For Analyzing Defence Gene Expression And Protein–Protein Interactions In Rice, Songbiao Chen, Lizen Tao, Lirong Zeng, Miguel E. Vega-Zanchez, Kenji Umemura, Guo-Liang Wang
Center for Plant Science Innovation: Faculty Publications
The transient assay system based on mesophyll or cultured cell-derived protoplasts has been exploited in several plant species and has become a powerful tool for rapid gene functional analysis and biochemical manipulations. However, the system has not been widely used in rice owing to the difficulties in large-scale isolation of viable rice protoplasts from leaves or suspension-cultured cells. Here, we describe a significantly improved method to isolate a large number of protoplasts from stem and sheath tissues of both young and mature plants. High-level coexpression of multiple constructs and efficient suppression of exogenous and endogenous genes were observed in the …
