Seven Hills Winery Fall 2005 Newsletter, Casey Mcclellan
Seven Hills Winery Documents
In this newsletter published by Seven Hills Winery, winemaker Casey McClellan reports great weather has produced a vintage that could potentially rival the excellence of the 1999 vintage at Seven Hills Winery in Walla Walla, Washington. In this newsletter, bottlings are described by place and appellation rather than by vintage to allow consumers more insight into how the wines are made. The newsletter also includes information about the Holiday Barrel Tasting in December.

Europe: A Civilization On The Edge, Peter O'Brien
Europe: A Civilization On The Edge, Peter O'Brien
Political Science Faculty Research
Our European culture is one that has staked its all on the universal and the danger menacing it is that of perishing by the universal.
Jean Baudrillard1
Rémi Brague rejects common charges of Eurocentrisim leveled against Western civilization. He prefers to characterize the West as "eccentric," meaning off center. He equates Western civilization with Europe and understands it as that civilization which grew out of the western half of the Roman Empire and with time differentiated itself from Byzantine and Islamic civilizations (themselves successors to the Roman heritage). He labels Europe eccentric because it stands (physically and figuratively) on …

Faculty Presentations
Since multi-source image classifications have the ability to exceed single source processes, such as traditional unsupervised classification methods, this paper will present the integration of four types of data: Lidar, elevation, multispectral and thermal. Using multi-source data and maximum likelihood classification methodology, as well as all possible permutations of data types, this paper will discuss ways to increase accuracy assessments of forested areas in east Texas and find the best combination of data sources.

Teacher Education Faculty Publications
This article discusses faculty-librarian collaboration to integrate technology in a course that focuses on teaching empirical research methodologies and library research skills to elementary and early childhood education graduate students. Vygotsky’s theory, standards in teacher education, and information literacy standards form the conceptual framework that supports this collaboration. The purpose and procedures of this collaboration, as well as student, faculty, and librarian outcomes, are discussed. This present collaboration on bibliographic instruction and the use of Blackboard courseware is framed within the context of past history of collaboration and future plans to expand this collaboration.

Fenceline Weaning For Beef Cattle, C. L. Wright, R. J. Pruitt
Fenceline Weaning For Beef Cattle, C. L. Wright, R. J. Pruitt
SDSU Extension Extra Archives
Weaning time can be stressful for cows and calves. Under traditional weaning systems, changes in environment, diet composition, and pathogen exposure can reduce animal performance and result in health problems. In response to these challenges, interest in fenceline weaning has grown in recent years. Fenceline weaning is a management system in which the calves are removed from their dams but are allowed to see, hear, and smell their dams. Depending on the fencing used, physical contact may also be possible. Fenceline weaning has the potential to reduce stress related to transport, changes in environment, and diet adaptation. It may also …

Estimation And Projection Of Indicence And Prevalence Based On Doubly Truncated Data With Application To Pharmacoepidemiological Databases, Henrik Stovring, Mei-Cheng Wang
Estimation And Projection Of Indicence And Prevalence Based On Doubly Truncated Data With Application To Pharmacoepidemiological Databases, Henrik Stovring, Mei-Cheng Wang
Johns Hopkins University, Dept. of Biostatistics Working Papers
Incidences of disease are of primary interest in any epidemiological analysis of disease spread in general populations. Ordinary estimates obtained from follow-up of an initially non-diseased cohort are costly, and so such estimates are not routinely available. In contrast, routine registers exist for many diseases with data on all detected cases within a given calendar time period, but lacking information on non-diseased. In the present work we show how this type of data supplemented with data on the past birth process can be analyzed to yield age specific incidence estimates as well as lifetime prevalence. A non-parametric model is studied …

Is The Number Of Sick Persons In A Cohort Constant Over Time?, Paula Diehr, Ann Derleth, Anne Newman, Liming Cai
UW Biostatistics Working Paper Series
Objectives: To estimate the number of persons in a cohort who are sick, over time.
Methods: We calculated the number of sick persons in the Cardiovascular Health Study (CHS), a cohort study of older adults followed up to 14 years, using eight definitions of “healthy” and “sick”. We projected the number in each health state over time for a birth cohort.
Results: The number of sick persons in CHS was approximately constant for 14 years, for all definitions of “sick”. The estimated number of sick persons in the birth cohort was approximately constant from ages 55-75, after which it decreased. …

Relationship Between Traditional Grammar Terminology And Metacognitive Application Of Grammar Concepts, Annalisa M. Buerke
Relationship Between Traditional Grammar Terminology And Metacognitive Application Of Grammar Concepts, Annalisa M. Buerke
Master of Education Program Theses
This literature review revisits the debate of whether grammar instruction can improve adherence to written English conventions. However, the paper focuses on the role of traditional definitions rather than on delivery methods. Two questions guide this paper: I. Do traditional terms and definitions hinder students' understanding of grammar concepts? 2. How can teachers define grammar terms in a clearer, more accurate manner? The paper uses prominent grammarians such as C. Weaver, R. Noguchi and M. Kolin and provides a history of methodology, noting researchers' observations of traditional terms and definitions. The paper concludes that secondary teachers can supplement traditional definitions …
