Arthur Jenkins is a musician who grew up in the Morrisania section of the Bronx. His mother’s side of the family moved to New York City from Houston, Texas. His grandmother had moved the family to Harlem, where his mother met his father. When Jenkins was born, his family was living in Harlem and shortly thereafter moved to the Bronx. His father worked as a garment presser and worked for a tailor.

Kondo Resonances And Anomalous Gate Dependence In The Electrical Conductivity Of Single-Molecule Transistors, L H. Yu, Z K. Keane, Jacob W. Ciszek, L Cheng, J M. Tour, T Baruah, M R. Pederson, D Natelson

Chemistry: Faculty Publications and Other Works

We report Kondo resonances in the conduction of single-molecule transistors based on transition metal coordination complexes. We find Kondo temperatures in excess of 50 K, comparable to those in purely metallic systems. The observed gate dependence of the Kondo temperature is inconsistent with observations in semiconductor quantum dots and a simple single-dot-level model. We discuss possible explanations of this effect, in light of electronic structure calculations.

“It’s Personal But Is It Mine? Toward Property Rights in Personal Information” discusses the disturbing erosion of privacy suffered by the American society in recent years due to citizens’ loss of control over their personal information. This information, collected and traded by commercial enterprises, receives almost no protection under current law. I argue that, in order to protect privacy, individuals need to secure control over their information by becoming its legal owners.

Muslims in Europe are faced challenges of cultural and religious integration which affect business practices and socio-economic success. This paper looks at the current Muslim situation in Europe from both a Muslim and native European perspective. The contrast between public information targeted at European Muslims originating from the European Union as opposed to Muslim home-countries is examined, as are the challenges posed by Muslim-majority Turkey’s application for membership in the European Union.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR

The plateau features that characterize the low-frequency spectra of fundamental strong-field processes such as harmonic generation, above-threshold ionization and laser-assisted electron-atom scattering are shown to exist also for photon energies E_γ of the order of the energy |E₀| of a bound electron. The existence of these rescattering effects in such a high-frequency (and thus nontunnelling) regime is supported by accurate quantum analyses of intense Ti-Sapphire laser interactions with halogen negative ions, for which E_γ ≈ 0.5|E0|.

Mothers’ Versus Fathers’ Ratings Of Child Behavior Problems, Jessica K. Curley

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

The goal of this study was to examine how mothers and fathers view children's internalizing and externalizing behavior problems. More specifically, the relationship between certain factors, such as parental psychological symptoms, levels of interparental conflict, characteristics of the behaviors, and discrepancies in mothers' and fathers' ratings of behavior problems were studied in more depth. Using a between subjects, experimental design, mothers and fathers were randomly assigned to view a videotape and rate the behavior of a male or female child acting in either an internalizing, externalizing, or non-clinical manner. Today's educators are in need of tests or rating systems that provide specific and valid feedback to parents, students and programs. This need includes the area of expressive fluent oral reading. One way to address this need is to provide a rating system based on theoretical models that explore how fluency develops. This study explores the dimensions, constructs, or aspects that make up fluency. It also explores whether there is a sequence or order in how fluent oral reading with expression develops and the theoretical reasons for that ordering.
