Building Skills F2f – Using Chat Reference Techniques, Darcy C. Del Bosque, Kimberly Chapman Oct 2005

Building Skills F2f – Using Chat Reference Techniques, Darcy C. Del Bosque, Kimberly Chapman

Library Faculty Research

The UTSA Library, like many organizations, has been experiencing a period of rapid growth and change. Even positive change can cause stress in departments, and one way to help employees deal with change, while still providing customer-oriented service, is to establish a regular forum for discussion that encourages departmental communication.

Training is an important aspect of employee development; however, the literature indicates that, in many organizations, training is often given little attention and relegated to the sidelines due to other demands on staff. With the hiring of new personnel, including a new Head of Reference and a Training Coordinator, the …

Properties Model For Aqueous Sodium Chloride Solutions Near The Critical Point Of Water, Bing Liu Oct 2005

Properties Model For Aqueous Sodium Chloride Solutions Near The Critical Point Of Water, Bing Liu

Theses and Dissertations

Traditional excess Gibbs energy models in terms of temperature, pressure, and concentration become progressively less effective in describing the thermodynamics of aqueous solutions at temperatures above 300 ¢ªC, and are totally inadequate in the critical region of water. This deficiency is due to the strong ion association and the large property fluctuations (such as density) with small variations in pressure, temperature, and solute concentration around the critical point of water. In this work, a speciation-based model has been developed to describe the thermodynamic properties of aqueous sodium chloride solutions in the critical region of water. The anomalous fluctuation problem is …

Big Cwatsets And Hamming Code, Matthew Davis, Thomas M. Langley, Norah Mazel

Mathematical Sciences Technical Reports (MSTR)

In contrast to Lagrange's Theorem in Finite Group Theory, we show that the ratio of the largest proper cwatset of degree d to the size of binary d-space approaches 1 as d approaches infinity. We show how to explicitly construct large cwatsets as cosets of Hamming Codes, and discuss many open questions that arise.

Population Intervention Models In Causal Inference, Alan E. Hubbard, Mark J. Van Der Laan Oct 2005

Population Intervention Models In Causal Inference, Alan E. Hubbard, Mark J. Van Der Laan

U.C. Berkeley Division of Biostatistics Working Paper Series

Marginal structural models (MSM) provide a powerful tool for estimating the causal effect of a] treatment variable or risk variable on the distribution of a disease in a population. These models, as originally introduced by Robins (e.g., Robins (2000a), Robins (2000b), van der Laan and Robins (2002)), model the marginal distributions of treatment-specific counterfactual outcomes, possibly conditional on a subset of the baseline covariates, and its dependence on treatment. Marginal structural models are particularly useful in the context of longitudinal data structures, in which each subject's treatment and covariate history are measured over time, and an outcome is recorded at …

Additive Hazards Models With Latent Treatment Effectiveness Lag Time, Ying Qing Chen, Charles A. Rohde, Mei-Cheng Wang Oct 2005

Additive Hazards Models With Latent Treatment Effectiveness Lag Time, Ying Qing Chen, Charles A. Rohde, Mei-Cheng Wang

Johns Hopkins University, Dept. of Biostatistics Working Papers

In many clinical trials to evaluate treatment efficacy, it is believed that there may exist latent treatment effectiveness lag times after which medical procedure or chemical compound would be in full effect. In this article, semiparametric regression models are proposed and studied to estimate the treatment effect accounting for such latent lag times. The new models take advantage of the invariance property of the additive hazards model in marginalizing over random effects, so parameters in the models are easy to be estimated and interpreted, while the flexibility without specifying baseline hazard function is kept. Monte Carlo simulation studies demonstrate the …
