The Counter-Reformation Of The Security Council, Mary Ellen O'Connell Jan 2005

The Counter-Reformation Of The Security Council, Mary Ellen O'Connell

Journal Articles

This article examines the 2003-2005 reform initiative relative to the Security Council's authority over the use of force. It looks at why the reform discussion began, what proposals grew out of the discussion, and the legal situation following the 2005 World Summit. The conclusion here is that the reform process has had positive results for the international legal regulation of the use of force, human rights protection, and international law generally. International law scholars are in a position to build on these results, supporting the revival and renewal of Charter law, explaining what exactly that law requires and why, and …

Dynamic Complementarity: Terri's Law And Separation Of Powers Principles In The End-Of-Life Context, O. Carter Snead

Journal Articles

The bitter dispute over the proper treatment of Theresa Marie Schiavo - a severely brain-damaged woman, unable to communicate and with no living will or advance directive - has garnered enormous attention in the media, both national and international. What began as a heated disagreement between Ms. Schiavo's husband and parents mushroomed into a massive political conflict involving privacy advocates on one side, and right-to-life and disability activists on the other. The battle raged on the editorial pages of the world's newspapers, in the courts, and ultimately, in the legislative and executive branches of the Florida state government. After nearly …

Community-Campus Partnerships For Economic Development: Community Perspectives, Anna Afshar Jan 2005

Community-Campus Partnerships For Economic Development: Community Perspectives, Anna Afshar

Partnerships/Community

What are community representatives saying about the value of community-campus partnerships (CCPs) for promoting economic development? CCPs are playing an increasingly visible role in neighborhood revitalization. More and more, we in the Community Affairs Unit of the Federal Reserve System find ourselves reporting on the outcomes of these collaborations. While community-campus engagements offer potential benefits for both communities and academic institutions, it has become clear to us that there is a shortage of narrative and analytical work clarifying how well these partnerships operate from the community perspective. This paper aims to help fill that gap.

Do Maps Guide The Way To Npd Success? Theoretical And Practical Aspects Of Knowledge Mapping In Product Development, Antonie J, Jetter

Engineering and Technology Management Faculty Publications and Presentations

New product development success largely depends on the ability to combine newly acquired information on customer demands and technological options with knowledge that exists within the company. Project organization and high employee turnover, however, make it difficult to be informed about what knowledge is available within the company and to access it successfully. Knowledge maps, a popular concept in present knowledge management, offer a possible solution by ?guiding the way to knowledge?. Their purpose, structure and content varies greatly, as does their ability to capture different aspects of knowledge. This paper investigates the theoretical basis of different types of knowledge …

The data were collected through use of a business daily activity protocol questionnaire and a longdistance interview. The participant is …

Effects Of Education On Gender Income Inequality In The United States, Jiang Li Jan 2005

Effects Of Education On Gender Income Inequality In The United States, Jiang Li

Masters Theses

This paper examines the relationship between gender income inequality and educational attainment level with reference to the United States (US). The population under consideration is divided into several groups based on their educational levels. Then gender income inequalities are calculated under each educational level. The total educational effect is shown to be composed of three effects. By measuring these effects, it is found that like past studies, more education reduces gender income inequality, but not in every case. Moreover, this paper explores the relative size of each of the component effects within the educational effect.

Previous tootling studies have focused on private reports of prosocial behavior, but verbal reports of prosocial behaviors utilizing the tootling intervention have not been investigated. Two classrooms of 3rd grade students were taught to tootle by either verbally reporting or by privately writing down observed prosocial behaviors of their peers. Both classrooms were reinforced for reaching a desired number of tootles. The results of the current study …
