Spontaneous Lorentz Violation And Nonpolynomial Interactions, Brett Altschul, V. Alan Kostelecký
Spontaneous Lorentz Violation And Nonpolynomial Interactions, Brett Altschul, V. Alan Kostelecký
Faculty Publications
Gauge-noninvariant vector field theories with superficially nonrenormalizable nonpolynomial interactions are studied. We show that nontrivial relevant and stable theories have spontaneous Lorentz violation, and we present a large class of asymptotically free theories. The Nambu-Goldstone modes of these theories can be identified with the photon, with potential experimental implications. © 2005 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Coastal Water Source Of Short‐Lived Halocarbons In New England, Yong Zhou, Ruth K. Varner, Rachel S. Russo, Oliver W. Wingenter, Karl B. Haase, Robert W. Talbot, Barkley C. Sive
Faculty Publications
Short‐lived halocarbon tracers were used to investigate marine influences on air quality in a coastal region of New England. Atmospheric measurements made at the University of New Hampshire's Observing Station at Thompson Farm (TF) in Durham, New Hampshire, indicate that relatively large amounts of halocarbons are emitted from local estuarine and coastal oceanic regions. Bromine‐containing halocarbons of interest in this work include bromoform (CHBr3) and dibromomethane (CH2Br2). The mean mixing ratios of CHBr3 and CH2Br2 from 11 January to 5 March 2002 were 2.6 pptv and 1.6 pptv, and from 1 June to 31 August 2002 mean mixing ratios were …

A Measurement-Based Admission Control Mechanism For Wireless Local Area Networks, Srinivas Bandi Ramesh Babu
A Measurement-Based Admission Control Mechanism For Wireless Local Area Networks, Srinivas Bandi Ramesh Babu
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
As users become more comfortable using IEEE 802.11 Wireless Local Area Networks, the need for quality of service is becoming more important because of the lack of support in current standards and the increase of multimedia traffic over the Internet. The IEEE 802.11 working group has recognized this fact proposing the Enhanced Distributed Channel Access (EDCA), a priority-based distributed scheme meant to provide service differentiation. EDCA relies on either different Arbitrary Interframe Space (AIFS), or Contention Window (CW) parameters, or both to provide service differentiation. In this thesis, a performance evaluation of the EDCA using five different combinations of the …

Facilitating Communication About Death Between Mothers And Adolescent Sons Using Fictional Children's Literature, Deon G. Leavy
Facilitating Communication About Death Between Mothers And Adolescent Sons Using Fictional Children's Literature, Deon G. Leavy
Theses and Dissertations
Most children will experience the death of a loved one in their lifetime and will need to develop healthy grieving patterns. Communication between parents and children is a key ingredient in facilitating this development. Current opinions about bibliotherapy, using a book to assist in healing, suggest that books provide understanding about grief and death and open channels of communication. Although the use of bibliotherapy is gaining popularity, little research exists about its efficacy. Utilizing the book The Bridge to Terabithia, this study evaluated the facilitation of communication about death between 19 dyads of mother and adolescent sons. Their answers and …
