This review examines several topics that inform many struggles currently experienced in the relationship between a canonical pastor and the principal of the parochial elementary school. Drawing on current research, this review examines various leadership theories, including the popular servant leadership model, and proceeds to a discussion of role expectations, role conflict, and role ambiguity.

This essay describes and analyzes one successful justice education program flowing from community service, and demonstrates how such a program in Catholic school responds to several important “calls” to Catholic educators. These “calls” are issued by (a) the needs of the learners and the signs of the times, (b) official documents of the Church about the mission of the Catholic school and the faith growth of youth, and (c) a creative reading of history and contemporary expression of religious education that involves cooperation among all teachers and all subject areas in the school. The Religious Pastoral Studies and Behavioral Sciences Departments of a Midwestern college have collaborated in offering academic courses in theology and anthropology that include service immersion experiences with people of diverse cultures in South Dakota, North Carolina, New Mexico, Kentucky, and Honduras. This paper explores the incarnational dimension of immersion experiences between native peoples and college students. OBJECTIVE: Many trace elements have activator or inhibitor roles in the antioxidative defense systems in diseases such as chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases (COPD). In this study, we aimed to show the levels of trace elements with action in oxidative stress, and to show the levels of malondialdehyde (MDA) as a marker of oxidative stress, and the activity of paraoxonase (PON1) as an antioxidant in COPD and smokers. It is the position of this paper that the typical hierarchical approach to leadership has hindered the epistemological process by placing too much responsibility on one person, the senior leader, and too little responsibility on the congregation as a whole. Covenant Epistemology is a response to this problem, by calling on the whole church to function in unity in the discernment process. The question at the heari of this dissertation is, "can it be different?" The "it" is the way church is organized, worship happens, and the very flavor of the church in the United Methodist Church in Oregon and Idaho. Today, church is generally organized following the traditional Anglo experience. The hymns, food, and organizational patterns generally follow the patterns of the white, English-speaking majority in the churches. A different formula would be one that is more multicultural and multiethnic. In this dissertation, the different way of organizing and thinking of church is called functional diversity.

Recent studies indicate that stabilization of vulnerable atherosclerotic plaques is critical for minimizing acute coronary syndromes. In this regard a new biodegradable stent design, the Two-ply cross fiber stent, has been developed to reduce stent-imposed stresses on such plaque and to provide increased drug reservoir capability. A comparative study of the mechanical properties of Two-ply and Single-ply stent designs was performed. Fibers comprising PLLA blends were developed and their thermal and mechanical properties were determined. Despite convergence across the strongly coupled seismogenic interface between the South American and Nazca plates, the dominant neotectonic signature in the forearc of northern Chile is arc-normal extension. We have used 1 m resolution IKONOS satellite imagery to map nearly 37,000 cracks over an area of 500 km2 near the Salar Grande (21°S). These features, which are best preserved in a ubiquitous gypcrete surface layer, have both nontectonic and tectonic origins. However, their strong preferred orientation perpendicular to the plate convergence vector suggests that the majority owe their formation to approximate east-west extension associated with plate boundary processes such as …

Hand dermatitis is a common chronic skin condition that has many clinical forms including contact, hyperkeratotic, frictional, nummular, atopic, pompholyx and chronic vesicular hand dermatitis. Topical steroids are the first line agents used. Here, we report the successful response to topical pimecrolimus 1% cream in a patient with steroid resistant chronic vesicular hand dermatitis.

OBJECTIVE: Homozygosity for the C677T mutation in the gene of the thermolabile enzyme 5,10 methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) associates with reduced enzyme activity, leading to mild hyperhomocysteinemia. We now know that an elevated level of homocysteine is an important risk factor for cardiovascular disease (CVD). The objective of this study was to determine the prevalence of the C677T mutation in Saudi patients diagnosed with CVD. METHODS: Over a period of 2 years (2003-2004) in a case control study, we determined the prevalence of the C677T mutation in 83 CVD patients and in 40 age and gender-matched controls in the Eastern Province …
