Comparison Of Glomalin And Humic Acid In Eight Native U.S. Soils, K. A. Nichols, S. F. Wright

Two important extractable fractions of soil organic matter (SOM) are humic acid (HA) and glomalin-related soil protein (glomalin). Optimizing the purity of each fraction is necessary to correlate fraction quantity and molecular characteristics with soil quality. Manipulation of extraction sequence and controlled precipitation of HA were used to evaluate co-extraction of HA and glomalin. Eight bulk soil samples (0 to 10 cm depth) were collected from four U.S. states (Colorado, Nebraska, Maryland, and Georgia). We calculate the one- and two-loop corrections of order α(Zα)⁶ and α²(Zα)⁶, respectively, to the Lamb shift in hydrogenlike systems using the formalism of nonrelativistic quantum electrodynamics. We obtain general results valid for all hydrogenic states with nonvanishing orbital angular momentum and for the normalized difference of S states. These results involve the expectation value of local effective operators and relativistic corrections to Bethe logarithms. The one-loop correction is in agreement with previous calculations for the particular cases of S, P, and D states. The two-loop correction in the order α²(Zα)⁶ includes …

I ask whether or not the Lyric can be defined solely in structural terms as a self-referential linguistic artifact, and if so, in what sense we should construe the poem’s relationship to the world and to knowledge. Using close readings of ancient and classical Greek epigrams, I first turn to Michael Riffaterre’s semiotics of poetry, in which it is proposed that the sign/signifier relationships generated in the text of poems can be exhausted in principle in an intertextual system of signs that makes no reference to the world. This research is particularly related to mercury control technologies. The state of the art in mercury emission control is generally classified into two categories: Mercury Transformation and Mercury Capture. In this research, two chapters (3 & 4) are specifically related to mercury transformation and another two (5 & 6) are related to mercury capture.

Chapter 3 investigates the capabilities of HCI and CU on Hg° oxidation. The resulting data indicated that both were effective in the combustor. However, HCI was less effective in a quartz reactor. Subsequently, the inhibitory effects of NO and S02 were identified in the quartz reactor. …

Post Merger Bank Performance Associated With Regulatory Evaluation Factors, Brian Emerson

The U.S. banking industry has seen an unprecedented wave of merger activity over the past decade. This study provides an investigation into performance effects of bank mergers on post merger performance from both the banking industry's and bank regulators' perspectives. Using FDIC call report data from 1992 until 2004, I assembled a data set that included 3500 mergers over this time period and found that significant overall improvements in financial performance is difficult to achieve, in agreement with past research. Specific variables showed improvement, while others did not

Smooth And Analytic Normal And Canonical Forms For Strict Feedforward Systems, Issa Amadou Tall, Witold Respondek

Recently we proved that any smooth (resp. analytic) strict feedforward system can be brought into its normal form via a smooth (resp. analytic) feedback transformation. This will allow us to identify a subclass of strict feedforward systems, called systems in special strict feedforward form, shortly (SSFF), possessing a canonical form which is an analytic counterpart of the formal canonical form. For (SSFF)-systems, the step-by-step normalization procedure of Kang and Krener leads to smooth (resp. convergent analytic) normalizing feedback transformations. We illustrate the class of (SSFF)-systems by a model of an inverted pendulum on a cart.

An internal antenna for GSM (880∼920MHz), DCS (1710∼1880MHz), and US-PCS (1850∼1990MHz) mobile handset is proposed. The antenna is designed to have a multi-band operation and includes feed line, patch and matching stub. It has a single radiating element and operates in multi-band by a matching circuit. The measured peak gain is 0.11dBi, 1.65dBi and 0.13dBi for GSM, DCS, and US-PCS, respectively.

RFID tag antenna which could be mountable on metallic plate is designed and measured for 900MHz band. The proposed antenna consists of ground plane, substrate (εr = 4.7), feed line with shorted circuit and radiating patch with L-shaped slit. The feed line with shorted circuit is designed for the direct impedance matching between the antenna and the RFID microchip. Especially, it is possible to obtain considerably the easy impedance match with the proposed design. Overall dimension of the proposed antenna is 90×54×5mm3. T his publication reports the performance of entries in the 2005 South Dakota corn hybrid performance trials for both nonRoundup- Ready™ and Roundup-Ready™ hybrids. Information includes both the most recent 2-year and 1-year grain yields in bushels per acre (bu/a); and 1-year bushel weight, grain moisture at harvest, percent stand at harvest, and stalk lodge percentages. These performance trials are conducted by the South Dakota Crop Performance Testing ( CPT ) program at South Dakota State University.

Galactic Cosmic-Ray Modulation Using A Solar Minimum Mhd Heliosphere: A Stochastic Particle Approach, Bryan M. Ball, Ming Zhang, Hamid K. Rassoul, Timur J. Linde

An example of Galactic cosmic-ray modulation in a fully three-dimensional heliosphere is presented here. We use a stochastic particle method to solve for modulation without requiring symmetric boundaries or fields. We include all typical modulation terms, including full three-dimensional drift. We have applied this to an MHD heliosphere appropriate for solar minimum conditions. This field includes nonradial solar wind velocity components, as well as a built-in nonspherical termination shock. Parameters that are of interest in modulation can be analyzed in detail, particularly the momentum change of cosmic rays during their transport through the heliosphere. This Article analyzes whether the legislature should change Georgia's arrest laws to authorize the discretionary issuance of field citations to more nontraffic misdemeanor offenders as a means to help alleviate jail overcrowding and reduce the amount of time required by patrol officers to process misdemeanor arrests.
