The Frequency And Severity Of Problem Behaviors Among Individuals With Autism, Traumatic Brain Injury, And Mental Retardation From The Utah Dspd Dataset, Melanie Kay Arp

The study reports on analyses of data collected from the Inventory for Client and Agency Planning (ICAP) for 5,859 children with Autism (n = 511), Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI, n = 522), or Mental Retardation (MR, n = 4826) whose legal guardians applied for support services through the Utah Department of Services for People with Disabilities (DSPD). Results indicate that the least to most frequent problem behaviors were (a) destructive to property, (b) hurtful to self, (c) hurtful to others, (d) socially offensive, (e) unusual habits, (f) withdrawal, (g) uncooperative, and (h) disruptive behaviors. Short‐lived halocarbon tracers were used to investigate marine influences on air quality in a coastal region of New England. Atmospheric measurements made at the University of New Hampshire's Observing Station at Thompson Farm (TF) in Durham, New Hampshire, indicate that relatively large amounts of halocarbons are emitted from local estuarine and coastal oceanic regions. Bromine‐containing halocarbons of interest in this work include bromoform (CHBr3) and dibromomethane (CH2Br2). The mean mixing ratios of CHBr3 and CH2Br2 from 11 January to 5 March 2002 were 2.6 pptv and 1.6 pptv, and from 1 June to 31 August 2002 mean mixing ratios were …

Most children will experience the death of a loved one in their lifetime and will need to develop healthy grieving patterns. Communication between parents and children is a key ingredient in facilitating this development. Current opinions about bibliotherapy, using a book to assist in healing, suggest that books provide understanding about grief and death and open channels of communication. Although the use of bibliotherapy is gaining popularity, little research exists about its efficacy. The Anchor: 2005

The Anchor began in 1887 and was first issued weekly in 1914. Covering national and campus news alike, Hope College’s student-run newspaper has grown over the years to encompass over two-dozen editors, reporters, and staff. For much of The Anchor's history, the latest issue was distributed across campus each Wednesday throughout the academic school year (with few exceptions). In recent years The Anchor moved to monthly print issues and a more frequently updated website. The Anchor is now published in print twice per academic semester. Occasionally, the volume and/or issue numbering is irregular.

Proteomic Studies Of Pseudomonas Putida Kt2440 In Carcinogenicity Screening Via 2-Dimensional Gel Electrophoresis, Mingyi Yao

Theses

This project is part of a pilot study designed to establish a two dimensional gel electrophoresis-based protocol, which can be utilized in screening mutagencity/carcinogencity of uncharacterized substances. Currently, the Ames test is the most commonly used method, which is solely based on mutation at the genome level. In contrast to the genome, which is static, protein expression in a cell under a given set of conditions (the proteome) is dynamic. A screening method based on the proteome rather than the genome may prove more reliable and quantitative in predicting mutagenicity and carcinogenicity. Semiclassical Nonadiabatic Dynamics Using A Mixed Wave-Function Representation, Sophya Garashchuk, Vitaly A. Rassolov, George C. Schatz

Nonadiabatic effects in quantum dynamics are described using a mixed polar/coordinate space representation of the wave function. The polar part evolves on dynamically determined potential surfaces that have diabatic and adiabatic potentials as limiting cases of weak localized and strong extended diabatic couplings. The coordinate space part, generalized to a matrix form, describes transitions between the surfaces. Choice of the effective potentials for the polar part and partitioning of the wave function enables one to represent the total wave function in terms of smooth components that can be accurately propagated semiclassically using the approximate quantum potential and small basis sets. …
