Jackrabbit Football Media Guides (1950-2014)

On August 15, 2003, South Dakota State announced that the university would begin the process to reclassify from NCAA Division II to NCAA Division I status. The reclassification process requires five years, starting with the 2003-04 exploratory season and ending with an evaluation visit following the 2007-08 season. That would make SDSU a fullfledged member of NCAA Division I for the 2008-09 season. This year, 2005-06, is the Provisional Second Year meaning SDSU must be in full compliance with all Division I legislation and membership requirements including scholarship minimums and Division I scheduling.

The standard method of target synthesis for hybridization to Affymetrix GeneChip® expression microarrays requires a relatively large amount of input total RNA (1-15 micrograms). When small biological samples are collected by microdissection or other methods, amplification techniques are required to provide sufficient target for hybridization to expression arrays. One amplification technique used is to perform two successive rounds of T7-based in vitro transcription. However, the use of random primers required to re-generate cDNA from the first round transcription reaction results in shortened copies of the cDNA, and ultimately the cRNA, transcripts from which the 5' end is missing. Climatic data and collection records for the cactophilic Drosophila aldrichi and Drosophila buzzatii for 97 localities were used to examine the effects of geographical location, season, host plant species and climatic factors on their range and relative abundance. Temporal variation in relative abundance was assessed from monthly collections over 4 years at one locality. Effects of weather variables over the 28 days before each collection were examined. A generalized linear model of the spatial data showed significant geographical variation in relative abundance, and significant climatic effects, with the proportion of D. aldrichi higher in the warm season, and increasing as …

LSAY Briefing Reports

This briefing issue summarises findings from research based on the 1995 and 1998 LSAY cohorts of Year 9 students, focusing on the Indigenous students in the surveys. Analyses of data indicate that Indigenous students in Year 9 have a generally positive perception of their schools, however fewer Indigenous students aspire to or do complete Year 12 than their non-Indigenous counterparts. The study highlights an array of differential outcomes between Indigenous and non-Indigenous students that contribute partially to explaining the lower rate of Year 12 participation among Indigenous students. Many philosophers have argued against Singer’s claim that all animals are equal. However, none of these responses have demonstrated an appreciation of the complexity of his position. The result is that all of these responses focus on one of his arguments in a way that falls victim to another. This paper is a critical examination of a possible response to the full complexity of Singer’s position that derives from the work of Carl Cohen, Kathleen Wilkes, and F. Ramsey. This paper discusses the security problems associated with the movement of goods across international in-land borders and at ocean ports. The author proposes an information technology solution approach that is based on the profiling of international shipments. The collection of data describing the end-to-end movement of a shipment from the initial acquisition transactions, throughout the various transshipment stages, to the final delivery, allows intelligent software to assist customs and homeland security officials to determine the risks associated with the shipment long before it reaches the inspection point. Metabus gravidus (Araneidae: Araneae) is a parasocial orb-weaving spider. It lives in the forest understory of Costa Rica along small streams. Web silk and spinning is very expensive and the web needs to be placed strategically to obtain maximum benefits. This study investigated the relationship between M. gravidus web size and the location and position of the web over the stream as well as the openness of the web. During the 2004 election cycle, online communication technologies emerged as a legitimate influence on political participation and strategy. Weblogs (blogs) played a pivotal role in the Internet's unprecedented sway. This research combined Burke's (1969) dramatism with Campbell's (1989) feminine style to describe and critique three women's political blogs. The pentad highlighted an argument derived from each blogger's master narrative, while feminine style analysis revealed subtle differences among the women's persuasive tactics.

Mammoth Cave National Park (MCNP) is home to the longest cave system in the World and is dissected by the Green River, one of the most speciose watersheds on the continent. Cave springs create a direct aquatic link between subterranean waterways and the Green River. The history of these subterranean river systems is filled with eyewitness reports of various species of surface water (nontroglobitic) fishes, including introduced rainbow trout. Stretching has been a part of warm-up for a very long time. Some recent research has shown that stretching could possibly hinder performance and others have shown it enhances performance. The purpose of this study was to examine whether stretching has an effect on vertical jump, and if so, how long the effects last. Twenty Western Kentucky students (10 M and 10 F) performed three trials each. There was a non-stretching group, a pre-stretching group and a between-stretching group; each of the subjects performed all three. This research analyzes the decision process of high school seniors in their postgraduation plans. Most of the participants are college bound, so students were compared and analyzed according to their preparedness for college as measured by the ACT. It seems that students go to college whether or not they are actually prepared for the experience. They seem to be more influenced by a societal push towards attending college than by anything else.

Finding a Hamiltonian cycle in a graph is used for solving major problems in areas such as graph theory, computer networks, and algorithm design. In this thesis various approaches of Hamiltonian cycle algorithms such as backtrack algorithms and heuristic algorithms, their basic ideas, and their actual implementations are studied. Three specific implementations are explained in detail and tested with randomly generated 4-regular planar graphs that are 2-connected and 4-edge connected. The results are analyzed and reported.

Despite the majority of consumers’ health and environmental concerns, genetically modified organisms (GMOs) now form a regular part of Canadian society. Our system of regulatory approval introduces GMOs into agriculture, while our legal regimes deal with rights and responsibilities with respect to GMO, all while grocers and consumers sell, buy and eat genetically modified foods (GMFs) as part of their daily diet. Background. Hemofiltration in the form of continuous venovenous hemofiltration (CVVH) is increasingly used to treat acute renal failure. Compared to hemodialysis, hemofiltration provides high clearances for large solutes but its effect on protein-bound solutes has been largely ignored.

Methods. Standard clinical systems were used to remove test solutes from a reservoir containing artificial plasma. Clearances of the protein-bound solutes phenol red (C_PR) and indican (C_IN) were compared to clearances of urea (C_UREA) during hemofiltration and hemodiafiltration.
