Dump Truck Driver Dies After Unintentional Release Of Asphalt, Kentucky Injury Prevention And Research Center

Fatality Case Reports--Motor Vehicle

On June 6, 2005 a 55-year-old male dump truck driver (Driver 1) died when he was buried waist deep in 400-degree Fahrenheit asphalt. Driver 1 stopped along the highway to help another dump truck driver (Driver 2), (both were independent truck drivers), who had experienced brake problems. As the two men were examining the pneumatic brake system at the rear of the disabled dump truck, the tailgate opened unexpectedly, spilling hot asphalt onto the decedent who was under the rear of the truck.

To prevent similar incidents, the following recommendations have been made:

Student Experiences During The 1954-1955 Merger Of Harris And Stowe Teachers Colleges, Kenneth Allen Wetstein Dec 2005

Student Experiences During The 1954-1955 Merger Of Harris And Stowe Teachers Colleges, Kenneth Allen Wetstein

Dissertations

This project is a historiography of the merger of Harris and Stowe Teachers Colleges following the Brown v. Board of Education U.S. 483 (USSC 1954) Supreme Court decision. In September 1954, these two racially segregated teachers colleges, both operated by the St. Louis Board of Education, were merged on the Harris Teachers College campus. This merger represented the first instance of desegregated public education in the city of St. Louis. Fourteen alumni who attended the two colleges during this period participated in semi-structured qualitative interviews, recalling their experiences during the merger. This study also involved the collection of data archived …

Thermodynamic Consistency Of The Dynamical Mean-Field Theory Of The Double-Exchange Model, Randy S. Fishman, Juana Moreno, Thomas Maier, Mark Jarrell Dec 2005

Thermodynamic Consistency Of The Dynamical Mean-Field Theory Of The Double-Exchange Model, Randy S. Fishman, Juana Moreno, Thomas Maier, Mark Jarrell

Faculty Publications

We find that standard diagrammatic perturbation theory does not exist for the dynamical mean-field theory of the double-exchange model because the vertex function cannot be expanded in terms of the bare vertex function and the full Green's function G (i νl) αα. Nevertheless, a functional Φ satisfying the condition δΦ δG (i νn) αα =Σ (i νn) αα can be constructed because the curl of the self-energy with respect to the Green's function vanishes: δΣ (i νn) αα δG (i νl) ββ -δΣ (i νl) ββ δG (i νn) αα =0. The connection between the functional Φ and the free …

Motivation And Transactional, Charismatic, And Transformational Leadership: A Test Of Antecedents, John E. Barbuto Jr. Dec 2005

Motivation And Transactional, Charismatic, And Transformational Leadership: A Test Of Antecedents, John E. Barbuto Jr.

Department of Agricultural Leadership, Education, and Communication: Faculty Publications

Relationships between leaders' motivation and their use of charismatic, transactional, and/or transformational leadership were examined in this study. One hundred eighty-six leaders and 759 direct reports from a variety of organizations were sampled. Leaders were administered the Motivation Sources Inventory (MSI) while followers reported leaders' full range leadership behaviors using the Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ-rater version). Leaders were also administered the self-rating version of the Multi-factor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ-rater version). The Motivation Sources Inventory subscales subsequently significantly correlated with leader self-reports of inspirational motivation, idealized influence (behavior) and individualized consideration (range, r = .10 to .29), as well as with …

This paper focuses on corporation law in the United States as it relates to capital contributions and capital maintenance. In other words, the paper addresses the provisions of corporation law relating to (1) the obligation of investors to contribute to the corporation a specified amount of capital and (2) the obligation of the corporation to maintain a specified amount of capital (and not to pay it back to the stockholders in the form of dividends or payments to repurchase or redeem shares). Human Rights Claims Vs. The State: Is Sovereignty Really Eroding?, Chandra Lekha Sriram Dec 2005

Human Rights Claims Vs. The State: Is Sovereignty Really Eroding?, Chandra Lekha Sriram

Faculty Scholarship

It is often argued that the increase in agreements, specialized courts, and litigation protecting human rights or responding to past abuses of human rights has begun to erode sovereignty. Contrary to traditional principles of non-interference in internal affairs, it is argued, genuine protection of human rights involves an invasion of the sovereign preserve of the state. While many examples might be adduced in support of this claim, ranging from the ad hoc criminal tribunals for the former Yugoslavia and Rwanda to the European Court of Human Rights, this article examines two types of transnational procedures: civil accountability through the use …
