Can Blogs Promote Fair And Equitable Teamwork?, Joseph Luca, Catherine E Mcloughlin

Research outputs pre 2011

Online collaboration tools can provide an opportunity to enhance community building while at the same time motivate students to actively participate in their learning. In this investigation an online learning environment was designed with the aim of promoting clear and transparent communication between higher education students to enable fair and equitable teamwork. The environment was designed with a combination of authentic project work, self-regulated tasks and reflective activity through the use of Bloggers. An evaluation of the learning environment was conducted through both qualitative and quantitative survey instruments.

Online Learning As Information Delivery: Digital Myopia, Jan Herrington, Thomas Reeves, Ron Oliver Jan 2005

Online Learning As Information Delivery: Digital Myopia, Jan Herrington, Thomas Reeves, Ron Oliver

Research outputs pre 2011

In business and commerce, the concept of marketing myopia has been a useful tool to predict, analyze and explain the rise and fall of businesses. In this paper, we question whether the concept can also be used to predict the ultimate downfall of online learning in higher education, if universities continue to confuse their key mission— education—with the much more product-oriented aim of information delivery. The proliferation of information-based online courses is examined within the context of the limitations imposed by widely used course management systems, institutional impediments and other factors that encourage teachers to adopt information delivery in preference …

Learning Designs And Learning Objects: Where Pedagogy Meets Technology, Ron Oliver, Ralph Wirski, Lisa Wait, Vivienne Blanksby Jan 2005

Learning Designs And Learning Objects: Where Pedagogy Meets Technology, Ron Oliver, Ralph Wirski, Lisa Wait, Vivienne Blanksby

Research outputs pre 2011

This paper discusses an Australian project where online learning materials with problem-based learning designs are being developed in a form which facilitates their inclusion in digital repositories and learning management systems. To that end the products are being developed as properly formed SCORM compliant IMS content packages. This paper discusses issues associated with the design of online resources characterised by quality learning designs and their subsequent redevelopment as IMS content packages.

An Ant Colony Optimization Approach To Test Sequence Generation For State-Based Software Testing, Huaizhong Li, Chiou Peng Lam Jan 2005

An Ant Colony Optimization Approach To Test Sequence Generation For State-Based Software Testing, Huaizhong Li, Chiou Peng Lam

Research outputs pre 2011

Properly generated test suites may not only locate the defects in software systems, but also help in reducing the high cost associated with software testing, ft is often desired that test sequences in a test suite can be automatically generated to achieve required test coverage. However, automatic test sequence generation remains a major problem in software testing. This paper proposes an ant colony optimization approach to automatic test sequence generation for state-based software testing. The proposed approach can directly use UML artifacts to automatically generate test sequences to achieve required test coverage.

Using Adaptive Agents To Automatically Generate Test Scenarios From The Uml Activity Diagrams, Dong Xu, Huaizhong Li, Chiou Peng Lam Jan 2005

Using Adaptive Agents To Automatically Generate Test Scenarios From The Uml Activity Diagrams, Dong Xu, Huaizhong Li, Chiou Peng Lam

Research outputs pre 2011

Test case generation is one of the most important issues in software testing research and industrial practice. Test scenarios are frequently used to derive test cases for scenario-based software testing. However, the generation of the test scenarios is usually a manual and labor-intensive task. It is desired that test scenarios can be automatically generated. In this paper, we propose an automated approach using adaptive agents to directly generate test scenarios from the UML activity diagrams.

Seeking Information Superiority: Strategies For Business In The Commercial Application Of Information Operations, Martin Dart Jan 2005

Seeking Information Superiority: Strategies For Business In The Commercial Application Of Information Operations, Martin Dart

Research outputs pre 2011

Information superiority is a condition that many businesses attempt to attain without truly understanding what it is, or how to get there. This paper presents an overview to help businesspeople recognize the road to information superiority, and some of the essential strategies to implement along the way. Information operations is a concept described to enable information superiority, when used with a network form of organization (as opposed to simply being networked). This paper describes information operations across their fundamental structure of intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR); and suggests a separation between industrial espionage and legitimate business information gathering. A model …

Manure From Grazing Cattle: Effects On Soil Microbial Communities And Soil Quality In Northern West Virginia Pastures., Yovita Sutanto Jan 2005

Manure From Grazing Cattle: Effects On Soil Microbial Communities And Soil Quality In Northern West Virginia Pastures., Yovita Sutanto

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

Upland pastures in West Virginia receive low-input management. The effect of manure addition to upland pasture soils was measured with a variety of biological indicators such as soil microbial biomass carbon (SMBC), hot water extractable carbon (HWC), potentially mineralizable nitrogen (PMN) and soil CO2 efflux. The effect of manure was found to be short-lived and most profound in soil surface Microbial diversity of pasture soil was examined using community level physiological profiles (CLPP) and molecular characterization of 16S ribosomal RNA genes by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE). Culture-independent and culture-dependent methods for molecular characterization of …

Job Satisfaction, Burnout, And Perceived Effectiveness Among Building-Based And District-Based School Psychologists, Dawn Marie Farnsworth

All Master's Theses

ABSTRACT JOB SATISFACTION, BURNOUT, AND PERCEIVED EFFECTIVENESS AMONG BUILDING-BASED AND DISTRICT-BASED SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGISTS by Dawn Marie Farnsworth November 2005 In the present study, the relationship between the number of school buildings that a school psychologist works in and the resulting levels of job satisfaction, burnout, and perceived effectiveness was studied. A questionnaire was mailed to 252 school psychologists that contained 28 items on a Likert scale related to the areas of job satisfaction, burnout and perceived effectiveness. Sixty-one of the returned questionnaires were classified as building based and 82 of the questionnaires were classified as district based. The results showed …

Transient Detection And Modeling Of Continuous Geodetic Data, Walter Michael Szeliga Jan 2005

Transient Detection And Modeling Of Continuous Geodetic Data, Walter Michael Szeliga

All Master's Theses

Transient surface deformation has been observed by continuously operating Global Positioning System stations in the Puget Sound area during the past decade. This surface deformation is associated with processes occurring on or near the subducting plate boundary between the Juan de Fuca and North American plates. This thesis is composed of two studies of transient deformation along the Cascadia plate margin and a discussion of the methodologies employed in these studies. We model one 7-week episode of transient deformation that occurred during 2003 beneath the Puget Sound area. Additionally, we utilize a combination of continuous Global Positioning System and seismic …

The Law On Intervention: Africa's Pathbreaking Model, Jeremy I. Levitt Jan 2005

The Law On Intervention: Africa's Pathbreaking Model, Jeremy I. Levitt

Journal Publications

This article seeks to examine the sum and substance of the evolving intervention regime in Africa. I employ a structural approach to highlight the normative framework governing humanitarian intervention in Africa at the sub-regional and regional levels. The article is meant to be a snapshot rather than a comprehensive treatment of the law of intervention in Africa. Space constraints preclude examination of the legality of the various post-Cold War, unilateral African interventions (i.e., those that took place without prior Security Council authorisation or valid state consent). These include the interventions by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) in …
