The amount of glycomics data being generated is rapidly increasing as a result of improvements in analytical and computational methods. Correlation and analysis of this large, distributed data set requires an extensible and flexible representational standard that is also ‘understood’ by a wide range of software applications. An XML-based data representation standard that faithfully captures essential structural details of a glycan moiety along with additional information (such as data provenance) to aid the interpretation and usage of glycan data, will facilitate the exchange of glycomics data across the scientific community. Discovering patterns in graphs has long been an area of interest. In most contemporary approaches to such pattern discovery either quantitative anomalies or frequency of substructure is used to measure the interestingness of a pattern. In this paper we address the issue of discovering informative sub-graphs within RDF graphs. We motivate our work with an example related to Semantic Search. Classical genetics rarely fails to interest secondary school students because it is introduced at a time when they are self-absorbed with their nascent physical characteristics, emerging sexuality, and/or future athlet- ic potential. This book focuses on the contemporary history Lingnan University. Numerical Simulation Of Double‐Diffusive Finger Convection, Joseph D. Hughes, Ward E. Sanford, H. L. Vacher

A hybrid finite element, integrated finite difference numerical model is developed for the simulation of double‐diffusive and multicomponent flow in two and three dimensions. The model is based on a multidimensional, density‐dependent, saturated‐unsaturated transport model (SUTRA), which uses one governing equation for fluid flow and another for solute transport. The solute‐transport equation is applied sequentially to each simulated species. Density coupling of the flow and solute‐transport equations is accounted for and handled using a sequential implicit Picard iterative scheme. High‐resolution data from a double‐diffusive Hele‐Shaw experiment, initially in a density‐stable configuration, is used to verify the numerical model. The temporal …

With a theme of “Volcanism and Its Impact on Society,” the November 2004 meeting of the International Association of Volcanology and Chemistry of the Earth's Interior (IAVCEI) held in Pucón, Chile, brought together experts to discuss many aspects of volcanology.

The five‐day IAVCEI meeting was the association's largest, attracting 940 participants from 44 countries. U.S. participants constituted one third. The meeting consisted of over 1100 abstracts presented in 12 theme sessions, and reflected a diversity of disciplines and techniques encompassed by volcanic studies.

We study the physical conditions in damped Lyman α systems (DLAs), using a sample of 33 systems towards 26 quasi-stellar objects (QSOs) acquired for a recently completed survey of H₂ by Ledoux, Petitjean & Srianand. We use the column densities of H₂ in different rotational levels, together with those of C I, C I*, C I**, C II* and singly ionized atomic species to discuss the kinetic temperature, the density of hydrogen and the electronic density in the gas together with the ambient ultraviolet (UV) radiation field.
