"Line Upon Line, Precept Upon Precept": Reflections On The 1877 Commencement Of The Performance Of Endowments And Sealings For The Dead, Richard E. Bennett

BYU Studies

The first endowments for the dead in Latter-day Saint history were performed on January 11, 1877 in the St. George Temple (fig. 1). Seasoned Nauvoo Temple ordinance and Salt Lake City endowment worker, Alonzo H. Raleigh, wrote of the occasion:

Endowments commenced in the [St. George] Temple and for the first time Endowments for the Dead in this Dispensation. 72 persons received their Endowments. I took the lead in the washing and anointing and instructions in the same. Washed, anointed and clothed the first person and took the general lead of the same, all through by promptings by the direction …

The Dedication Of The Oliver Cowdery Monument In Richmond, Missouri, 1911, Richard Neitzel Holzapfel, Robert F. Schwartz Sep 2005

The Dedication Of The Oliver Cowdery Monument In Richmond, Missouri, 1911, Richard Neitzel Holzapfel, Robert F. Schwartz

BYU Studies

As one of three witnesses, Oliver Cowdery testified that “an angel of God came down from heaven” to display an ancient record—a record known then and now as the Book of Mormon. Cowdery, Martin Harris, and David Whitmer affirmed in written testimony that they saw “the engravings thereon,” and more surprisingly that the voice of God declared Joseph Smith’s translation of the record to be true. Even though all three men eventually disassociated themselves from Joseph Smith, later members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints felt to commemorate Cowdery, Whitmer, and Harris for their role in the …

The Chemical Species Of Aluminum Influences Its Paracellular Flux Across And Uptake Into Caco-2 Cells, A Model Of Gastrointestinal Absorption, Yuzhao Zhou, Robert A. Yokel Sep 2005

The Chemical Species Of Aluminum Influences Its Paracellular Flux Across And Uptake Into Caco-2 Cells, A Model Of Gastrointestinal Absorption, Yuzhao Zhou, Robert A. Yokel

Pharmaceutical Sciences Faculty Publications

Aluminum (Al) can cause neurotoxicity, a low-turnover osteomalacia, and microcytic anemia. To test the null hypothesis that the chemical form (species) of Al does not influence its mechanism or rate of absorption from the gastrointestinal tract, Al flux across and uptake into Caco-2 cells was investigated. Caco-2 cells were grown on porous membranes mounted in vertical diffusion chambers or in 35-mm-diameter plastic cell culture dishes. When 8 mM 27Al was introduced as the ion, citrate, maltolate, fluoride, or hydroxide, the apical to basolateral apparent permeability (Papp) of Al correlated highly with the Papp of lucifer yellow …

Kentucky Transportation Center Research Report

In October 2003, LexTran, the City of Lexington’s public transportation provider, was undergoing a management transition. It sought the assistance of the Kentucky Transportation Center for strategic planning and visioning. This project produced four deliverables: (1) a series of public meetings facilitated by the Kentucky Transportation Center on rider and other stakeholder attitudes toward LexTran and its general performance; (2) an environmental scan comparing LexTran to similar transit providers on operating efficiency, ridership, funding sources, and other characteristics; (3) A GIS database containing census data and other information useable for the analysis of proposed routes; and (4) a PowerPoint presentation …

Cpg Oligodeoxynucleotides Stimulate Cord Blood Mononuclear Cells To Produce Immunoglobulins., Cheri D Landers, Subbarao Bondada

Microbiology, Immunology, and Molecular Genetics Faculty Publications

CpG oligodeoxynucleotides (ODNs) stimulate adult B cells leading to cellular proliferation and immunoglobulin production. It is unknown if CpG-ODNs similarly stimulate neonatal human B cells. Neonates have immature immune responses and are poorly responsive to thymus independent antigens such as polysaccharides. We determined umbilical cord cells' response to CpG-ODNs. Adult and umbilical cord B cells produced similar amounts of IgM (adult 1371 +/- 352 vs. cord 1873 +/- 1084 ng/ml) in response to CpG-ODN stimulation. Although CpG-ODN was able to stimulate adult IgG and IgA production, cord cells produced less IgG (153 +/- 58 vs. 10 +/- 2.5 ng/ml) and …
