Comparison Of Statistical Tests In Logistic Regression: The Case Of Hypernatreamia, Stylianos Katsaragakis, Christos Koukouvinos, Stella Stylianou, Eleni-Maria Theodoraki, Eleni-Maria Theodoraki
Comparison Of Statistical Tests In Logistic Regression: The Case Of Hypernatreamia, Stylianos Katsaragakis, Christos Koukouvinos, Stella Stylianou, Eleni-Maria Theodoraki, Eleni-Maria Theodoraki
Journal of Modern Applied Statistical Methods
The logistic regression has become an integral component of any medical data analysis concerning binary responses. The main issue rising after the adaptation of the final model is its goodness-of-fit. The fit of the model is assessed via the overall measures and summary statistics and comparing them in the case of hypernateamia.
An Estimator Of Intervention Effect On Disease Severity, David Siev
An Estimator Of Intervention Effect On Disease Severity, David Siev
Journal of Modern Applied Statistical Methods
When a medical intervention prevents a dichotomous outcome, the size of its effect is often estimated with the prevented fraction. Some interventions may reduce the severity of an outcome without entirely preventing it. To quantify the effect of a severity-moderating intervention, a measure termed the mitigated fraction (MF) is proposed. MF has broad applicability, because it measures the overlap of two empirical distributions based on their stochastic ordering. It is also useful in the specific context of medical interventions, because it shares certain structural and functional features with the prevented fraction. The two measures may be applied together …
Restricted Quasi-Independent Model Resolves Paradoxical Behaviors Of Cohen’S Kappa, Vicki Stover Hertzberg, Frank Xu, Michael Haber
Restricted Quasi-Independent Model Resolves Paradoxical Behaviors Of Cohen’S Kappa, Vicki Stover Hertzberg, Frank Xu, Michael Haber
Journal of Modern Applied Statistical Methods
Cohen’s kappa, an index of inter-rater agreement, behaves paradoxically in 2×2 tables. λA is derived, an index from the restricted quasi-independent model for 2×2 tables. Simulation studies are used to demonstrate λA has superior performance compared to Scott’s pi. Moreover, λA does not show paradoxical behavior for 2×2 tables.

Correlation Between The Number Of Epileptic And Healthy Children In Family Size That Follows A Size-Biased Modified Power Series Distribution, Ramalingam Shanmugam, Anwar Hassan, Peer Bilal Ahmad
Correlation Between The Number Of Epileptic And Healthy Children In Family Size That Follows A Size-Biased Modified Power Series Distribution, Ramalingam Shanmugam, Anwar Hassan, Peer Bilal Ahmad
Journal of Modern Applied Statistical Methods
An expression for the correlation between the random number of epileptic and healthy children in family whose size follows a size-biased Modified Power Series Distribution (SBMPSD) is obtained and illustrated. As special cases, results are extracted for size biased Modified Negative Binomial Distribution (SBGNBD), size biased Modified Poisson Distribution (SBGPD) and size biased Modified Logarithmic Series Distribution (SBGLSD).

Supporting And Preparing Future Decision-Makers With The Needed Tools, Michael Wolf-Branigin
Journal of Modern Applied Statistical Methods
Supporting and Preparing Future Decision-makers with the Needed ToolsEducational and social service researchers and evaluators continue to develop advanced statistical methods. To ensure that our students have the essential skills as they enter direct service, the focus must be on assuring that they learn readily understandable methods that are appropriate for small samples and use repeated measures.

Sample Size Calculation And Power Analysis Of Time-Averaged Difference, Honghu Liu, Tongtong Wu
Journal of Modern Applied Statistical Methods
Little research has been done on sample size and power analysis under repeated measures design. With detailed derivation, we have shown sample size calculation and power analysis equations for timeaveraged difference to allow unequal sample sizes between two groups for both continuous and binary measures and explored the relative importance of number of unique subjects and number of repeated measurements within each subject on statistical power through simulation.
Type I Error Of Four Pairwise Mean Comparison Procedures Conducted As Protected And Unprotected Tests, J. Jackson Barnette, James E. Mclean
Type I Error Of Four Pairwise Mean Comparison Procedures Conducted As Protected And Unprotected Tests, J. Jackson Barnette, James E. Mclean
Journal of Modern Applied Statistical Methods
Type I error control accuracy of four commonly used pairwise mean comparison procedures, conducted as protected or unprotected tests, is examined. If error control philosophy is experimentwise, Tukey’s HSD, as an unprotected test, is most accurate and if philosophy is per-experiment, Dunn-Bonferroni, conducted as an unprotected test, is most accurate.

Young People Outside The Labour Force And Full-Time Education : Activities And Profiles, Kylie Hillman
LSAY Research Reports
This report focuses on a group of young people who are not involved in full-time education or the labour force, that is, they are not studying full-time, nor are they working or looking for work. The report has three broad aims : to investigate the socio-demographic and educational profiles of those young people; to investigate the activities of this group; and to investigate the stability over time of the group. Understanding The Effects Of Dominant Institution Acculturation On The Culture And Leadership Of Indigenous People, Based On A Study: “Exploring Indigenous Tribal Leadership.”, Jeff G. Hart
Different Perspectives on Majority Rules: 10th Annual National Conference (2005)
What effect has forced acculturation had on Native American people? This presentation will present ideas on ethnocentrism, Manifest Destiny, and the issues between indigenous cultures and dominant institutions. Participants will be invited to ask questions and participate in a discussion about how strengthened partnerships between different cultures might help to bridge institutional gaps.

The Four Suns Of Healing, Roberto Dansie
The Four Suns Of Healing, Roberto Dansie
Different Perspectives on Majority Rules: 10th Annual National Conference (2005)
We have calendars in the American continent that go back thousands of years. Researchers today confirm that these calendars not only measure the Macro-cosmos: They are also a sophisticated charting of the inner-world, particularly the dynamics between the body, the emotions, and the multiple elements that constitute our Self. These views are represented in calendars, ancient codices, and pre-Hispanic ceremonial centers. They are also alive in popular views, and traditional healing practices known today as “Curanderismo.” One of these perspectives is the use of the four suns. This presentation will explore this perspective.

The Phenomenon Of Biculturalism And Stress Among Ethnic Minority Nurse Faculty, Sheila P. Davis
Different Perspectives on Majority Rules: 10th Annual National Conference (2005)
This is an interactive presentation of a husband and wife team in which results of a methodological triangulation study that compares and contrasts ethnic minority faculty at both predominantly white and predominately ethnic minority institutions on bicultural and occupational stress are discussed. The investigator-generated, Bicultural System’s Conceptual Model, is used to interpret results and derive strategies for achieving a climate more conducive to optimal engagement of all faculty. Seven themes emerge from this study: Appraising, Proving, Fitting-In, Defending, Distancing, Being Invisible, and Mentoring are discussed in light of coping strategies used by ethnic minorities in bicultural settings. Understanding these behaviors …

Why Should I Work Hard, My Teacher Doesn’T Like Me: Educational Experiences Of Impoverished Students, Katherine Sprott
Different Perspectives on Majority Rules: 10th Annual National Conference (2005)
Relationships and communication are two key factors that impact learning. The values and beliefs for some white, middle class, female, teachers contradict these factors with students of color, even greater for impoverished students. Included are strategies, students’ voices, and recommendations for effective relational and communicative techniques between these two groups.
