Long-Acting Injectable Antipsychotics. Review And Recent Developments, Monica Zolezzi Jan 2005

Long-Acting Injectable Antipsychotics. Review And Recent Developments, Monica Zolezzi

Neurosciences

Long-acting injectable antipsychotics, also known as ‘depots’, were developed in the late 1960s as an attempt to improve compliance and long-term management of schizophrenia. Despite their availability for over 30 years, guidelines for their use and data on patients for whom long-acting injectable antipsychotics are most indicated are sparse and vary considerably. A review of the perceived advantages and disadvantages of using long-acting injectable antipsychotics is provided in this article, as well as a review of the literature to update clinicians on the current advances of this therapeutic option to optimize compliance and long-term management of chronic schizophrenia.

The Efficacy Of Schroth’S 3-Dimensional Exercise Therapy In The Treatment Of Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis In Turkey, Saadet Otman, Nezire Kose, Yavuz Yakut

Neurosciences

OBJECTIVE: To determine the effectiveness of 3-dimensional therapy in the treatment of adolescent idiopathic scoliosis. METHODS: We carried out this study with 50 patients whose average age was 14.15 +/-1.69 years at the Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation School, Hacettepe University, Ankara, Turkey, from 1999 to 2004. We treated them as outpatients, 5 days a week, in a 4-hour program for the first 6 weeks. After that, they continued with the same program at home. We evaluated the Cobb angle, vital capacity and muscle strength of the patients before treatment, and after 6 weeks, 6 months and one year, and compared …

The Dynamics Of Child Sexual Abuse Prosecution: Two Florida Case Studies, Robert Levy

Articles

Criminal justice scholars agree that the process cannot adequately be captured simply by reporting guilty pleas, jury acquittals and convictions. Rather, one must imagine a giant cornucopia, the large end representing the huge mass of unreported and uncleared crimes, the small end representing the small number of convicted felons sentenced to prison. Between these terminal points can be found all those criminals the police decide not to arrest or refer for prosecution, all those cases prosecutors decide not to prosecute, the cases prosecutors decide to dismiss (or "nolle prosequi," often referred to as "nol pros") after they have been filed, …

Racial Integration And Community Revitalization, Myron Orfield

Studies

This article, published in the Vanderbilt Law Review, uses a New Jersey court case?In re Adoption of the 2003 Low Income Housing Tax Credit Qualified Allocation?to illustrate the tension between the FHA and the siting preferences in the LIHTC statute. It highlights a deep legal and philosophical contradiction in the United States between civil rights guarantees?particularly the duty to affirmatively further fair housing?and state and federal low-income housing policy.

Evaluation Of A Mechanical System For Reconstructing Soil On Surface Mined Land, John P. Fulton, Larry G. Wells Jan 2005

Evaluation Of A Mechanical System For Reconstructing Soil On Surface Mined Land, John P. Fulton, Larry G. Wells

Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering Faculty Publications

The existence of excessive soil compaction has hindered the surface mining industry from returning land to pre−mining productivity after reclamation, especially on prime farmland soils. Heavy earthmoving equipment used during reclamation tends to generate root−limiting bulk densities that adversely affect plant growth thereby decreasing yields. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to evaluate a mechanism, called the ‘Soil Regenerator,’ which reconstructs soil media at minimum bulk density during surface mine reclamation. The prototype soil forming mechanism was mounted on the front of a conventional bulldozer. Soil was placed in long narrow windrows by a scraper or bulldozer. As the …
