Building The Ideal Undergraduate Operations Management Curriculum : A Survey Of Employers, Brad Orsucci
Building The Ideal Undergraduate Operations Management Curriculum : A Survey Of Employers, Brad Orsucci
Honors Capstones
The needs of the business community are always changing. The goal of this study is to determine what those needs are and develop a curriculum that satisfies to those needs. To gather the information needed, we created an online survey and asked employers of operations management and information systems majors to complete the survey. The survey consisted of questions about their company, education and the importance of different courses. Many of the courses the business community felt were important were courses that had a combination of OM and IS. To meet the business communities needs we suggest that NIU develop …

Underlying Representations In Children's Speech, Jessica Kay Wert
Underlying Representations In Children's Speech, Jessica Kay Wert
Honors Capstones
Knowledge of a child's underlying phonemic categories would be extremely helpful when working with children with speech-language impairments. Morris (1999) analyzed the speech productions and perceptions of 15 preschool children and grouped them based on their performance on the production and perception tasks. Three groups emerged. The current study reports on acoustic analysis of 8 children's productions of lsi and lei. The concept that was expanded upon was that children listen differently to sounds than adults (Nittrouer, Studdert-Kennedy, McGowan, 1989). If the specific acoustic characteristic that children weight so heavily can be determined, that characteristic can be found in the …

Stabilization Of Residual Soil With Rice Husk Ash And Cement, E.A. Basha, Roslan Hashim, H.B. Mahmud, A.S. Muntohar
Stabilization Of Residual Soil With Rice Husk Ash And Cement, E.A. Basha, Roslan Hashim, H.B. Mahmud, A.S. Muntohar
Research Publications (2000 to 2005)
Stabilization of residual soils is studied by chemically using cement and rice husk ash. Investigation includes the evaluation of such properties of the soil as compaction, strength, and X-ray diffraction. Test results show that both cement and rice husk ash reduce the plasticity of soils. In term of compactability, addition of rice husk ash and cement decreases the maximum dry density and increases the optimum moisture content. From the viewpoint of plasticity, compaction and strength characteristics, and economy, addition of 6-8 cement and 10-15 rice husk ash is recommended as an optimum amount.

Prevalence Of Intestinal Parasites Among Members Of The Public In Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, I. Jamaiah, M. Rohela
Research Publications (2000 to 2005)
A total of 246 stool samples were collected from the public who participated in a Medical Fair held at the University Malaya Medical Center. The stools were examined for intestinal parasites using the formalin-ether concentration technique. The overall infection rate was 6.9 (17 out of 246), with Trichuris trichiura being the most common parasite (4.5), followed by Ascaris lumbricoides (0.8), Clonorchis sinensis (0.8), hookworm (0.4), and Entamoeba histolytica (0.4). None of these participants showed any clinical symptoms. The highest infection rate was among the Chinese 7.7 (13 out of 169), followed by the Malays 7.0 (3 out of 43) and …
