Record Hail Event – Examination Of The Aurora, Nebraska Supercell Of 22 June 2003, Jared Guyer, Rick Ewald Oct 2004

Record Hail Event – Examination Of The Aurora, Nebraska Supercell Of 22 June 2003, Jared Guyer, Rick Ewald

United States Department of Commerce: Staff Publications

During the late afternoon and early evening hours of 22 June 2003, thunderstorms developed from central Nebraska into north central Kansas, quickly becoming severe in an environment favorable for supercell thunderstorms. On this evening, portions of central Nebraska and north central Kansas were affected by tornadoes, destructive hail, and severe flooding.
In particular, a supercell thunderstorm moved northeastward across the community of Aurora, Nebraska, producing extremely large hail and multiple short-lived tornadoes. A record setting hailstone was ultimately discovered in Aurora, measuring 7.0 inches (17.78 cm) in diameter with an 18.75 inch (47.63 cm) circumference. This hailstone broke the previous …

Avian Use Of Harvested Crop Fields During Spring Migration Trrough North Dakota, Alegra M. Galle, George M. Linz, William J. Bleier Oct 2004

Avian Use Of Harvested Crop Fields During Spring Migration Trrough North Dakota, Alegra M. Galle, George M. Linz, William J. Bleier

United States Department of Agriculture Wildlife Services: Staff Publications

Over the past century, the amount of mixed-grass prairie in North Dakota has diminished with a concomitant increase in land used for crop production. Consequently, the diversity of habitat available for migrant birds has decreased, and birds are now limited to choosing habitats that are uncharacteristic of those used during other times of the year. Because of the extensive agricultural production in this region, the value of harvested crop fields to spring-migrating birds was studied by examining avian habitat use in harvested fields to determine differences in bird use among these habitats. In the spring of 2003, 60 harvested fields …

A Case Study In The Treatment Approaches And Outcomes Of Adjustment Disorder, Tobiellen Care Oct 2004

A Case Study In The Treatment Approaches And Outcomes Of Adjustment Disorder, Tobiellen Care

Theses and Dissertations

This case study evaluated the effectiveness of cognitive-behavioral therapy in the treatment of an adolescent female in a community agency. The client was diagnosed with adjustment disorder mixed with anxiety and depression. A psychosocial history of the client was presented emphasizing the psychosocial stressors that contributed to the adjustment disorder. A review of empirically supported treatment approaches for adjustment disorders was conducted. The Beck Depression inventory and the Trait Anxiety scale were used as outcome measures. Pre and post comparisons of both measures indicated clinically significant decreases in both anxiety and depression. However, further treatment was needed to extend the …

A Complete Probabilistic Framework For Learning Input Models For Power And Crosstalk Estimation In Vlsi Circuits, Nirmal Munuswamy Ramalingam Oct 2004

A Complete Probabilistic Framework For Learning Input Models For Power And Crosstalk Estimation In Vlsi Circuits, Nirmal Munuswamy Ramalingam

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Power disspiation is a growing concern in VLSI circuits. In this work we model the data dependence of power dissipation by learning an input model which we use for estimation of both switching activity and crosstalk for every node in the circuit. We use Bayesian networks to effectively model the spatio-temporal dependence in the inputs and we use the probabilistic graphical model to learn the structure of the dependency in the inputs. The learned structure is representative of the input model. Since we learn a causal model, we can use a larger number of independencies which guarantees a minimal structure. …
