Azimuthal Anisotropy And Correlations At Large Transverse Momenta In P+P And Au+Au Collisions At √SNn=200 Gev, Star Collaboration, T.D. Gutierrez

Physics

Results on high transverse momentum charged particle emission with respect to the reaction plane are presented for Au+Au collisions at √s_NN=200  GeV. Two- and four-particle correlations results are presented as well as a comparison of azimuthal correlations in Au+Au collisions to those in p+p at the same energy. The elliptic anisotropy v₂ is found to reach its maximum at pt∼3  GeV/c, then decrease slowly and remain significant up to p_t≈7–10  GeV/c. Stronger suppression is found in the back-to-back high-p_t particle correlations for particles emitted out of plane compared to those emitted in plane. The …

Representations Of Anglo-Saxon England In Children's Literature, Kirsti A. Bobo

This thesis surveys the children's literary accounts of Anglo-Saxon history and literature that have been written since the mid-nineteenth century. Authors of different ages emphasize different aspects of Anglo-Saxon culture as societal need for and interpretation of the past change. In studying these changes, I show not only why children's authors would choose to depict the Saxons in their writing, but why medievalists would want to study the resulting literature.

My second chapter looks at children's historical fiction and nonfiction, charting the trends which appear in the literature written between 1850 and the present day. I survey the changes made …

Oregon’s efforts in tobacco cessation have historically focused on the general population and have depended on quit line services as the primary intervention. The Oregon Smoke Free Mothers and Babies Program (SFMB) was developed in 2002 to focus on public health nurses and prenatal care providers who work with high risk pregnant women. It seeks to increase smoking cessation among low income and other high risk pregnant women by disseminating the U.S. Public Health Service best practices, the 5 A’s (Ask, Advise, Assess, Assist, Arrange) tobacco brief intervention protocol, to public health nurses and prenatal care providers. Nebraska is in a drought of historic proportions. Because of this, water levels in Lake McConaughy near Ogallala are falling to near-record lows. This has led to an active debate regarding how water in McConaughy should be managed, and (in my opinion) unfair criticism of how the lake has been managed. This column takes a quick look at the water rights dimension of McConaughy water levels.

The objective of this task “Chemical Analyses in Support of Yucca Mountain Studies” is to provide the Department of Energy (DOE) with data and reports from comprehensive chemical analyses of waters sampled from the wells of the Nye County Early Warning Drilling Program (NCEWDP), the Inyo County’s Drilling Program, and the Nye county Tracer Test. Optimal Cooling Strategies For Magnetically Trapped Atomic Fermi-Bose Mixtures, Michael Brown-Hayes, Roberto Onofrio

We discuss cooling efficiency for different-species Fermi-Bose mixtures in magnetic traps. A better heat capacity matching between the two atomic species is achieved by a proper choice of the Bose cooler and the magnetically trappable hyperfine states of the mixture. When a partial spatial overlap between the two species is also taken into account, the deepest Fermi degeneracy is obtained for an optimal value of the trapping frequency ratio between the two species. This can be achieved by assisting the magnetic trap with a deconfining light beam, as shown in the case of fermionic 6Li mixed with 23Na, 87Rb, and …

A potential solution to producing quality software in an acceptable time frame may be found by using the newer, innovative methods, such as collaborative software development. The purpose of this dissertation is to examine the individual developer characteristics, developmental settings, collaborative methods and the processes during development that impact collaborative programming performance and satisfaction outcomes.
