There are no picture books about the mandated third grade unit in Des Moines that study the capital city's major historic sites. The purpose of this research is to provide a new age-appropriate illustrated informational book to be used with the Des Moines capital city unit. The format will contain photographs of the historical sights that are studied in third grade as well as multicultural locations and events enriching the city's diversity.

While stretching is commonly part of the pre-performance routine in many sports including swimming, its function has been a controversial topic in the research community. Researchers have found decrements in performance measures such as force (Fowles, Sale, & MacDougall, 2000) and torque (Avela, Kyrolainen, & Komi, 1999) after stretching. While still controversial, some researches have also found decreases in one repetition maximum lifts (Kokkonen, Nelson, & Cornwell, 1998) and various jumping tests (Knudson, Bennett, Com, Leick, & Smith, 2001) after the inclusion of stretching.

The focal question of this study was: Does the literature support the assessment process used in the From LtoJ program? Higher education is not just a Black and White issue, but also an issue regarding First Nations people (i.e., American Indian/Native American and Alaskan Indians). American Indians throughout history in the U.S. have been neglected in all levels of education. American Indian women in graduate programs have experienced prejudices, isolation, and lack of support, guidance, or mentoring from the faculty, staff, or administration in graduate programs. The clock generator is a critical component in high-speed wireline communication systems. The clocks in these systems mark time at precise regular intervals. Any deviation of the clock edges from these ideal time points is called jitter and it degrades the overall integrity of the communication system. This thesis looks at both phase locked loops (PLLs) and delay locked loops (DLLs) and their ability to provide these precise clocks. Expressions for the thermal noise-induced jitter in both the PLL and DLL are compared. From this, the DLL is shown to possess the potential for better jitter performance. However, to realise …

The Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) is the protocol of choice for establishing multimedia sessions in Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) networks as stated by 3GPP. SIP is a protocol that will merge together the cellular and Internet worlds and is also scalable, highly available and extensible. This work develops a service-based architecture for an extensible and customisable learning management system (LMS) runtime environment. The architecture mainly defines interfaces for the interaction of functional system components represented by loosely coupled distributed services. Services that represent functional components of the distributed LMS are called e-leaming services. In addition, underlying infrastructure services provide supportive functionality such as service-lookup within an institution. Users access the system using an LMS portal component that acts as a front-end for the LMS services.

A highly specific and sensitive LC-MS/MS analytical method was developed and validated using gradient reversed phase liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC- MS/MS), interfaced using turbo-assisted electrospray ionisation (ESI) in negative mode for the analysis of DSP (okadaic acid (OA), dinophysistoxins (DTXs) and pectenotoxins (PTXs)) toxins in a variety of samples. There were no matrix effects present, proved by the good reproducibility achieved and the linearity of the calibration curves (r" > 0.999) in spiked mussel samples and standards. A DSP toxin profile study was conducted with bulk phytoplankton and mussels samples from the west coast of Ireland. All the samples were …

The rapidly expanding cut foliage industry in the southwest of Ireland aims to satisfy the demands of an exacting market requiring quality stems for use in the manufacture of flower and foliage bouquets.

The studies identified, in detail, the type of weed pests that cause problems for growers of cultivated foliage crops and examined current weed control practice. Residual herbicides with potential for use within the sector were screened and trials were set up in a number of important foliage species.
