As the use of instructional technology in the college classroom has increased over the past decade, instructors have had to adapt their teaching and communication behaviors in order to successfully integrate teaching styles into this new instructional environment. However, limited empirical testing has attempted to determine the impact increased technology use has had on instructor communication behaviors. Thus, this study examined 136 undergraduate students to determine how an instructor's technology use, delivery method and course size influences student reports of teacher verbal and nonverbal immediacy behaviors. Bridging The Internet Divide: An Analysis Of The Changing Nature Of The Political Communication Of Moveon.Org, Anne Marie Todd, Christina M. Sabee

Iowa Journal of Communication

As part of a bourgeoning network of online activism, MoveOn.org has launched a variety of political campaigns, powered largely by its online network MoveOn's unique methods of incorporating its members' conversations into its public messages reveal how the Internet is transforming the nature of political communication. This paper looks into the conversations among members on MoveOn's electronic bulletin boards and MoveOn's public rhetorical messages, including press releases, advertisements and campaign actions. These conversational and rhetorical media illuminate the links between the communication for internal and public audiences, and offer a look at the changing nature of political communication.

Fathers' Physiological Reactions To Child-Related Stimuli And Observed Fathering Behaviors, Brian D. Hunter

Child abuse studies have measured physiological reactivity of parents in response to several child- and nonchild-related stimuli. Abusive parents have responded to aversive stimuli, including that which is child-related, with atypical physiological reactivity, suggesting a trait of hyperreactivity. The current study tested the hypothesis that variation in observed parenting behaviors is associated with physiological reactivity to childrelated stimuli. To explore this association, researchers measured fathers' skin conductance level, heart rate and respiration rate in reaction to video segments of a quiet, crying and happy infant, then scored observed father-child interactions for the use of parenting warmth and control across four …

Testing web-based enterprise applications requires the use of automated testing frameworks. The testing framework's ability to run suites of test cases through development ensures enhancements work as required and have not caused defects in previously developed sub systems. Open source testing frameworks like JUnit and Cactus have addressed the requirements to test web-based enterprise applications, however they do not address the generation of test cases based on direct analysis of the code under test.

This qualitative study examined how experienced African American teachers in predominantly African American schools perceived and conceptualized their worklives as classroom teachers, and, how they viewed their personal and professional identities in relationship to their lives as teachers. In depth interviews of 10 experienced African American teachers provided the data for the study, analyzed through the interpretative use of appropriate literature screens. The Freudian concept of thanatos, the death instinct, plays a pivotal role in the following collection of fiction and poetry, and also in the nonfictional introductory chapter. In the tradition of Poe, unreliable narrators of questionable morality are used to explore, through fiction, the psychological characteristics of this death instinct, while in the poetry, the subject matter and perspective has been strongly influenced by Ai's work. บทความนี้เป็นสรุปผลการวิจัยที่วิเคราะห์ลักษณะการยืม และความเข้มข้นของการยืมภาษาอังกฤษในภาษาไทยที่ปรากฏใน พระราชหัตถเลขาพระบาทสมเด็จพระจุลจอมเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัว ข้อมูล ที่ใช้ในการวิเคราะห์คือพระราชหัตถเลขาฯที่ตีพิมพ์ในรูปของหนังสือ 7 เล่ม ซึ่งมีเนื้อหาเกี่ยวกับการเสด็จประพาสทั้งในประเทศ และต่างประเทศ ผู้วิจัยตั้งสมมติฐานไว้ว่าพระราชหัตถเลขาที่ทรง ในปีต้นๆ แสดงลักษณะการยืมภาษาอังกฤษที่บ่งบอกความ เข้มข้นน้อยกว่าพระราชหัตถเลขาที่ทรงในปีหลัง ๆ ผลการ วิเคราะห์สอดคล้องกับสมมติฐานเฉพาะกรณีพระราชหัตถเลขาที่ทรงพระราชนิพนธ์ขณะเสด็จเยือนต่างประเทศ กล่าวคือเล่มที่ทรงพระราชนิพนธ์ก่อนมีความเข้มข้นของการยืมภาษาอังกฤษน้อยกว่าเล่มที่ทรงภายหลังลดหลั่นกันไปตามความก่อนหลังของปี ส่วนพระราชหัตถเลขาที่ทรงพระราชนิพนธ์ขณะเสด็จเยือนสถานที่ในประเทศไทยนั้น มีอัตราความเข้มข้นของการยืมภาษาอังกฤษต่ำกว่าพระราชหัตถเลขาที่ทรงคราวเสด็จเยือนต่างประเทศอย่างมาก และไม่ลดหลั่นกันตามความก่อนหลังของปีด้วย ทั้งนี้ น่าจะเป็นเพราะทรงมอบหมายให้อาลักษณ์ซึ่งไม่มีหรือมีความรู้ ภาษาอังกฤษน้อยมากเป็นผู้บันทึกเหตุการณ์ต่าง ๆ ของการเดินทางแทนพระองค์ โดยภาพรวมสรุปได้ว่าภาษาไทยในพระราชหัตถเลขาพระบาทสมเด็จพระจุลจอมเกล้าเจ้าอยู่หัวมีการ เปลี่ยนแปลงไปเพราะการสัมผัสกับภาษาอังกฤษในระดับค่อนข้างเข้มข้น ดังมีหลักฐานจากการยืมคำนามจำนวนมาก คำชนิดอื่น ระดับปานกลาง และมีการใช้ประโยคกรรมวาจกที่เนื่องมาจาก อิทธิพลของภาษาอังกฤษด้วย

บทความนี้มุ่งศึกษาปัญหาอิทธิพลของภาษาอังกฤษใน บทแปลภาษาไทย โดยการวิเคราะห์ จำแนกประเภท และจัดลำดับ ปัญหาที่เกิดจากอิทธิพลด้านต่าง ๆ 3 ประเภท ได้แก่ โครงสร้าง คำศัพท์ วลีและสำนวนตายตัวว่าเกิดขึ้นมากน้อยเพียงใด ผู้วิจัย เก็บข้อมูลจากแบบฝึกหัดการแปลและนํามาวิเคราะห์ในเชิง คุณภาพเพื่อหาลักษณะอิทธิพลของภาษาอังกฤษในบทแปลภาษา ไทยที่พบในปัญหาแต่ละประเภทข้างต้น ข้อมูลที่ใช้ในการวิเคราะห์แบ่งออกเป็น 2 กลุ่ม คือ บทแปลที่ถูกต้องและไม่ถูกต้อง กลุ่มแรกแบ่งย่อยเป็นบทแปลที่ถูกต้องและเป็นธรรมชาติกับบทแปลที่ถูกต้องแต่ไม่เป็นธรรมชาติ ส่วนกลุ่มที่สองแบ่งย่อยเป็นบทแปลที่ผิดความหมายกับที่ไม่ได้แปล ผลการวิเคราะห์พบว่า อิทธิพลของภาษาอังกฤษในบทแปลภาษาไทยมีอยู่ในวงกว้าง โดย ในกลุ่มบทแปลที่ถูกต้องแต่ขาดความเป็นธรรมชาติ ความถี่เรียง ตามลำดับจากมากไปน้อยดังนี้ คือ โครงสร้าง คำศัพท์ และ วลี และสำนวนตายตัว อย่างไรก็ตาม ความถี่ของปัญหาการแปลวลี และสำนวนตายตัว ซึ่งมีสัดส่วนน้อยที่สุดในกลุ่มดังกล่าว กลับเป็นปัญหาที่มีสัดส่วนสูงที่สุด สำหรับผู้แปลในกลุ่มที่แปลไม่ถูกต้อง นอกจากนี้ ผู้วิจัยยังได้เสนอแนะวิธีการแก้ไขปัญหาเรื่องนี้ โดยใช้ วิธีการปรับบทแปลสำหรับปัญหาอิทธิพลด้านโครงสร้างและ คำศัพท์ และให้ประยุกต์ใช้วิธีการสอนแปลที่เน้นการใช้ภาษาเพื่อ การสื่อสารและการสอนภาษาแบบเน้นศัพท์ (lexical approach) สำหรับปัญหาอิทธิพลด้านวลีและสำนวนตายตัว ทั้งนี้เพื่อให้การ เรียนการสอนแปลมีสัมฤทธิผลมากขึ้นและเพื่อช่วยพัฒนาทักษะ ของผู้เรียนในการแปลภาษาอังกฤษเป็นภาษาไทยให้ดียิ่งขึ้นด้วย

"บวช": ที่มา ความหมาย และอิทธิพล, บรรจบ บรรณรุจิ

คำว่า "บวช" เป็นคำไทยที่คนไทยคุ้นเคยกันมานานว่า หมายถึง กิริยาอาการที่ถือเพศเป็นภิกษุสามเณรหรือนักพรต ประเภทอื่น คำนี้ยังมีอิทธิพลให้เกิดลูกคำอีกเป็นจำนวนมาก ลูกคำเหล่านั้นล้วนสะท้อนให้เห็นวิถีชีวิตไทยที่ผูกพันอยู่กับ พระพุทธศาสนามานาน ที่มาของคำว่า "บวช" มีกล่าวไว้หลาย ทรรศนะ แต่เห็นว่าน่าจะใกล้เคียงที่สุดคือ ปวช ในภาษาบาลี และเชื่อว่าน่าจะเป็นต้นเค้าของคำว่า "บัวส์" ในภาษาเขมรด้วย เพราะเขมรก็เป็นดินแดนที่ได้รับอิทธิพลของพระพุทธศาสนาเถรวาทที่ใช้ภาษาบาลี คำว่า "บวช" นอกจากจะให้กำเนิดลูกคำ ต่างๆ ที่เกี่ยวกับกิจกรรมทางพระพุทธศาสนาแล้ว ก็ยังให้กำเนิด ลูกคำที่เกี่ยวกับอาหารและคำแสลงอีกด้วย

ภาษาฝรั่งเศสในภาษาไทย, แพรวโพยม บุณยะผลึก

บทความนี้เสนอผลการวิเคราะห์การยืมคำศัพท์ภาษาฝรั่งเศสเข้ามาใช้ในภาษาไทย สรุปได้ว่าการยืมคำศัพท์ส่วนใหญ่ เป็นการยืมทับศัพท์ (ประมาณ 84%) ที่เหลือเป็นการยืมแปล (ประมาณ 10%) และมีจำนวนน้อยที่เป็นคำยืมแปลประสมคำทับศัพท์ ศัพท์บัญญัติ และคำที่สร้างขึ้นโดยลากเข้าแนวเทียบ เมื่อ พิจารณาตามชนิดของคำ พบว่าส่วนใหญ่เป็นการยืมคำนาม (ประมาณ 86%) ที่เหลือเป็นคำคุณศัพท์ คำกริยา คำวิเศษณ์ คำบุพบท และคำสันธาน คำศัพท์ภาษาฝรั่งเศสส่วนใหญ่มีความ หมายเกี่ยวกับอาหารการกิน รองลงมาเป็นลำดับ คือ ศิลปะสาขา ต่างๆ และสังคมศาสตร์ ส่วนคำศัพท์ที่เกี่ยวกับเสื้อผ้าเครื่องแต่ง กาย และเครื่องสำอาง มีเพียงเล็กน้อยเท่านั้น (ประมาณหมวดละ 1%) คำศัพท์ที่ยืมจากภาษาฝรั่งเศสเมื่อนำมาใช้ในภาษาไทย พบว่ามีการกลายความหมายไปจากเดิม และมีการสะกดคำหลากหลาย ซึ่งสะท้อนการออกเสียงที่ต่างไปจากคำเดิมในภาษาฝรั่งเศส

บทละครของมิเชล วินาแวร์ ได้รับการกล่าวขวัญว่าเป็น บทละครแห่งปัจจุบันกล่าวคือเป็นละครร่วมสมัยที่สะท้อนภาพชีวิต สามัญชนผู้เผชิญวิกฤติต่างๆ ในชีวิตประจำวัน แต่ผลงานของวินาแวร์ แตกต่างอย่างสิ้นเชิงจากละครในขนบเดิม ความสมจริงของละคร สองเรื่องของเขาคือ La Demande d'emploi และ Les Travaux et les Jours เกิดจากกลวิธีการประพันธ์ที่เป็นนวัตกรรมของละครแบบ ใหม่ เราจะพบว่าในฉากเดียวกันเหตุการณ์หลากหลายเกิดขึ้น พร้อม ๆ กัน โดยการเหลื่อมซ้อนมิติสถานที่และเวลา ไม่มีการ เรียงลำดับเหตุการณ์ ตัวละครทุกคนแสดงพร้อมกันและดู เหมือนว่าจะพูดคุยกันอย่างไม่ต่อเนื่อง เพราะหัวข้อสนทนา เปลี่ยนอย่างฉับพลันตามมิติเวลาและสถานที่ที่เปลี่ยนไป ราวกับ ว่าเวทีชุมนุมเศษเสี้ยวนับร้อยนับพันของภาพชีวิตปัจจุบันไว้ในคราวเดียว เมื่อเรานำชิ้นส่วนต่างๆ มาปะติดปะต่อกันจะพบ เอกภาพที่งดงามของละครและความนัยอันลึกซึ้งเกี่ยวกับระบบสังคมปัจจุบัน

บทความนี้มุ่งวิเคราะห์กระบวนการยืมคํา และการบัญญัติศัพท์ในสังคมไทยในสมัยรัตนโกสินทร์ ตั้งแต่สังคมไทยเริ่มปรับเปลี่ยนเป็นสังคมสมัยใหม่ตามโลกตะวันตกจนถึงปัจจุบัน ข้อมูลที่ใช้ในการวิเคราะห์ได้มาจากบทความวิชาการใน หนังสือพิมพ์ วารสาร และหนังสือบัญญัติศัพท์ ซึ่งสุ่มตัวอย่าง ตามช่วงเวลา 5 สมัยแบ่งตามเหตุการณ์สำคัญทางประวัติศาสตร์ คือ สมัยก่อนปรับเปลี่ยนเป็นสมัยใหม่ สมัยรุ่งอรุณของการ ปรับเปลี่ยนเป็นสมัยใหม่ สมัยปฏิรูปสังคมไทย สมัยประชาธิปไตย และสมัยปัจจุบัน ผลการวิเคราะห์สรุปได้ว่า กระบวนการยืมคำและการบัญญัติศัพท์ในสังคมไทยมีวิวัฒนาการ ซึ่งอธิบายได้เป็น 3 ขั้นตอนใหญ่ๆ คือ เริ่มด้วยการยืมคำหรือการทับศัพท์ การยืมปน การสร้างศัพท์โดยใช้คำไทย และการสร้าง ศัพท์ใช้พร้อมคำยืม ตามด้วยขั้นตอนที่สอง คือ การสร้างศัพท์ โดยจำกัดความ การสร้างศัพท์ใช้พร้อมคำที่เขียนเป็น ภาษาอังกฤษ และการสร้างศัพท์โดยใช้คำบาลีสันสกฤต ขั้นตอน สุดท้ายคือการปนคำภาษาอังกฤษในภาษาไทย และการสร้างศัพท์ โดยแปลตรงตัว

Research and debate concerning pornography has been controversial, primarily focusing on the perceived harmful effects. The current study addresses support for legal restrictions and the effect of gender on this support. Based on the internalization of gender roles, perspectives, and identities through socialization, gender is constructed differently for men and women. Because this socialization is constructed around an oppositional male-female dichotomy, men and women experience the world differently. While there have been previous research addressing gender differences, the gendered nature of attitudes merits further study.

The process of phototransduction, whereby light is converted into an electrical response, in rod and cone photoreceptors in the retina, involves as a key setp, the diffusion of the cytoplasmic, signaling molecules cGMP (cyclic guanosime monophosphate) and Ca²+ diffuse in the cytoplasm (the fluid surrounding the discs). the complex geometry of the rod creates computational difficulties. We present spatio-temporal compuational models for interacctions and diffusion of cGMP and Ca²+ in the cytoplasm of vertebrate rod photoreceptors, as well as numerical simulations fo the response to light of dark-adapted Salamander rods.

The purpose of the study is to determine if there is a difference in muscle activation when performing three common abdominal exercises, isolating the rectus abdominis and external obliques, on a contoured gym ball compared to a flat surface. Thirty female volunteers, aged 19-24, performed an abdominal crunch (AC), an abdominal crunch with a twist (ACWT), and a side-lying crunch (SC) on both a flat table and on a gym ball. The purpose of the study was to examine high aggressive and low aggressive children's perceptions of their peers' intentions in ambiguous and aggressive situations. Teacher ratings of aggression were assessed for 25 first grade children. Measures were taken to evaluate children's judgments about aggressors' intentions in ambiguous and aggressive acts. In the first part of the assessment, children were read three stories about an ambiguously aggressive situation, asked whether or not it was okay for the provoker to perform the action, and asked why they believed the provoker carried out the aggressive act. Research and debate concerning pornography has been controversial, primarily focusing on the perceived harmful effects. The current study addresses support for legal restrictions and the effect of gender on this support. Based on the internalization of gender roles, perspectives, and identities through socialization, gender is constructed differently for men and women. Because this socialization is constructed around an oppositional male-female dichotomy, men and women experience the world differently.
