Hess V. Indiana Revisited: A Panel Discussion With Case Participants (Video), Ralph F. Gaebler, Richard Vaughan
Maurer Law Events
On November 19th, 2004, a panel discussion was held in the Moot Court Room of the Indiana University-Bloomington School of Law. The topic of the discussion was the landmark United States Supreme Court case, Hess v. Indiana. The case is particularly relevant to the law school because two members of the faculty (Tom Schornhorst and Pat Baude) served as lawyers to the defendant Greg Hess. Additionally, the protest and arrest took place half a block from the law school in front of the University's administration building (Bryan Hall) in 1970.
Joining Professors Schornhorst and Baude on the panel are three …

The Law And Economics Of Cybersecurity: An Introduction, Mark F. Grady, Francesco Parisi
George Mason University School of Law Working Papers Series
One of the most controversial theoretical issues of our time is the governance of cybersecurity. Computer security experts, national security experts, and policy analysts have all struggled to bring meaningful analysis to cybersecurity; however, the discipline of law & economics has yet to be fully applied to the issue. This introduction presents work by leading national scholars who examine this complex national security challenge from a law and economics perspective. The focus spans from a discussion of pure market solutions to public-private issue analysis, providing a valuable basis for policy considerations concerning the appropriate governmental role on the issue of …

Multi-Event Crisis Management Using Non-Cooperative Repeated Games, Upavan Gupta
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
The optimal allocation of the resources to the emergency locations in the event of multiple crises in an urban environment is an intricate problem, especially when the available resources are limited. In such a scenario, it is important to allocate emergency response units in a fair manner based on the criticality of the crisis events and their requests. In this research, a crisis management tool is developed which incorporates a resource allocation algorithm. The problem is formulated as a game theoretic framework in which the crisis events are modeled as the players, the emergency response centers as the resource locations …

The Institutionalization Of Service-Learning As A Pedagogical Tool For Campus Engagement At Public Versus Private Higher Education Institutions, Gwenda R. Greene
Thesis, Dissertations, Student Creative Activity, and Scholarship
Historically, higher education institutions have charged departments such as Academic Affairs with students' academic growth, and Student Affairs with their social and emotional development. Where and how these two come together to engage the holistic development of students will differ widely among institutions. This research premise was to investigate a method that could help bridge Academic Affairs and Student Affairs areas. A comprehensive review of the literature on educational reforms in higher education delineates service-learning as an innovative pedagogy for impacting the holistic development of students while enhancing the scholarship of engagement throughout the institutions.
