The Relationship Between Student Characteristics And Success In An Online Business Course At West Shore Community College, Amy J. Wojciechowski

This ex-post facto study was conducted to identify characteristics of successful online students with respect to: (a) gender; (b) age; (c) previous courses completed online; (d) ACT English, Reading, and Composite test score; (e) ASSET Reading and Writing test score; (f) grade point average of student upon completion of the course; (g) withdrawal from previous courses; (h) semester format (16-week vs. 8-week); (i) student status (full-time vs. part-time); and (j) attendance at orientation that will predict success. A small, rural community college in western Michigan participated in the study. The subjects included 179students in an online Introduction to Business course …

Analysis Of English And Spanish Academic Proficiency Of Pre-Service Bilingual Teachers At A University In South Texas, Matthew E. Meyers

The purpose of this research was to examine the English and Spanish academic writing proficiency of pre-service bilingual teachers at a university in south Texas and attempt to establish factors that have influenced that proficiency or lack of proficiency. Ninety-four participants who volunteered to take part in the study completed a 50-question survey that solicited demographic information and perceived proficiencies in English and Spanish. After collecting the data from the survey, participants wrote essays on four separate themes. Two of the essays were written in Spanish, and two were written in English. Law and Contemporary Problems
Given the severe institutional shortcomings of the European Ombudsman and the poor understanding of his duties among European citizens, the Ombudsman's information strategy does not appear to have been very effective so far. With dedication and activism, the Ombudsman continues to travel tirelessly year after year, participating in conferences, seminars, meetings, and visits with officials of Community and national institutions in all of the 25 Member States.

Laboratory Experiments Of Entrainment In Dry Convective Boundary Layers, Harm J.J. Jonker, Thijs Heus, Esther Hagen, Han Van Dop
Physics Faculty Publications
Entrainment in dry convective boundary layers was studied. A saline convection tank set-up was used as a laboratory model for a dry convective atmospheric boundary layer. The entrainment flux was measured using planar laser induced fluorescence (PLIF). It was found that the entrainment flux reveals a much stronger dependence on the inversion strength than large eddy simulations tend to do.
