Quantum mechanics was formulated on the basis of the existence of an ideal classical clock external to the system. The rate of the universal loss of unitarity was estimated using optimal realistic clocks. The loss of unitarity is universal thus affecting all physical phenomena. It is observed that the rate is enough to eliminate the black hole information puzzle.

This article contributes to an ongoing debate about the feasibility and desireability of measuring the "merit" of appellate judges--and their consequent Supreme Court potential--by using objective performance variables. Relying on the provocative and controversial "tournament criteria" proposed by Professors Stephen Choi and Mitu Gulati in two recent articles, Brudney assesses the "Supreme Court potential" of Warren Burger and Harry Blackmun based on their appellate court records. He finds that Burger's appellate performance appears more promising under the Choi and Gulati criteria, but then demonstrates how little guidance these quantitative assessments actually provide when reviewing the two men's careers on the …

All Computer Science and Engineering Research

The minimum concave cost network flow problem (MCCNFP) has many applications in areas such as telecommunication network design, facility location, production and inventory planning, and traffic scheduling and control. However, it is a well known NP-hard problem, and all existing search based exact algorithms are not practical for networks with even moderate numbers of vertices. Therefore, the research community also focuses on approximation algorithms to tackle the problems in practice. In this paper, we present an improved local search algorithm for the minimum concave cost network flow problem based on multi-cycle reduction. Characterization of micron and sub-micron size particles requires the simultaneous measurement of the joint particle property distribution (JPPD). The JPPD is comprised of particle size, shape, orientation, composition, optical properties, and surface properties. Measurement of each of the particle properties independently is a difficult task and it has been only partially successful. To determine as many particle properties as possible using optical methods it is necessary to simultaneously measure all aspects of the interaction of the incident light with the particles of interest. Atomic Force Microscope Conductivity Measurements Of Single Ferritin Molecules, Degao Xu

Conductive Atomic Force Microscope (c-AFM) was used to measure the conductivity of single horse spleen ferritin (HoSF) and azotobacter vinelandii bacterial ferritin (AvBF) molecules deposited on flat gold surfaces. A 500 micron diameter gold ball was also used as a contact probe to measure the conductivity of a thin film of ferritin molecules. The average current measured for holo HoSF was 13 and 5 times larger than that measured for apo HoSF as measured by c-AFM at 1V and gold ball at 2V and respectively, which indicates that the core of ferritin is more conductive than the protein shell and …
