Research Manuscript Series

The following report , brought together with great skill and insight by editors Russell K. Skowronek and Margaret A. Graham , provides a rich trovel of valuable information about what has been found there archaeologically and what it means. Some of this meaning reflects the kinds of lives people were leading in ancient times where students now cross over the Alameda Mall, and the very different kinds of activities people were conducting in those ancient times. Part reflects how these discoveries have already affected present-day consciousness, and what some of the changes have been in regard to public appreciation of …

Measuring Emotional Intelligence, John D. Mayer Jan 2004

Measuring Emotional Intelligence, John D. Mayer

UNH Personality Lab

The original UNH webpage about emotional intelligence was among the first online and publicly available sources of responsible information about emotional intelligence. Here, in revised form, is a central document regarding topics about emotional intelligence and focused in particular on the issues surrounding the measurement of emotional intelligence.

The following document represents a reconstruction and update of the earlier UNH Emotional Intelligence site and information that was available on it. The reconstruction includes all the major essays and e-mail exchanges with colleagues about the theory that were relevant to emotional intelligence. As we transferred the material to the present website, …

The Relationship Between Juvenile Delinquency And Family Unit Structure, Angela D. Mullens Jan 2004

The Relationship Between Juvenile Delinquency And Family Unit Structure, Angela D. Mullens

Theses, Dissertations and Capstones

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between parental absence and juvenile delinquency and to determine if a link exists between the two variables. Data was collected from male juveniles who were alleged to have committed status or delinquent offenses between 1996 and 2004. Each offense was categorized according to the family unit (e.g., intact, father only, mother only, etc.), offense type (e.g., underage consumption, petit larceny, breaking and entering, etc.), offense level (e.g., status misdemeanor, and felony), the victim (e.g., crimes against the person, crimes against property, etc.) and the juvenile’s age at the time the …

Detection Of Antibodies To Squalene Iii. Naturally Occurring Antibodies To Squalene In Humans And Mice, Gary R. Matyas, Mangala Rao, Phillip R. Pittman, Robert Burge, Iris E. Robbins, Nabila M. Wassef, Brandie Thivierge, Carl R. Alving Jan 2004

Detection Of Antibodies To Squalene Iii. Naturally Occurring Antibodies To Squalene In Humans And Mice, Gary R. Matyas, Mangala Rao, Phillip R. Pittman, Robert Burge, Iris E. Robbins, Nabila M. Wassef, Brandie Thivierge, Carl R. Alving

United States Army: Publications

An ELISA-based assay is described for the measurement of antibodies to squalene (SQE) in human serum and plasma. The assay was adapted from the previously described assay for murine antibodies to SQE (J. Immunol. Methods 267 (2002) 119). Like the murine SQE antibody assay, the human antibody assay used sterile cell culture 96-well plates coated with SQE (20 nmol/well). Phosphate-buffered saline (PBS)–0.5% casein was used as both a blocking agent and dilution buffer. The assay has a high through-put capacity and is reproducible and quantitative. This assay was used to evaluate samples from three different human cohorts. The first cohort …

Biomimetic Model Of Skeletal Muscle Isometric Contraction: I. An Energetic–Viscoelastic Model For The Skeletal Muscle Isometric Force Twitch, C. A. Phillips, D. W. Repperger, A. T. Neidhard-Doll, D. B. Reynolds Jan 2004

Biomimetic Model Of Skeletal Muscle Isometric Contraction: I. An Energetic–Viscoelastic Model For The Skeletal Muscle Isometric Force Twitch, C. A. Phillips, D. W. Repperger, A. T. Neidhard-Doll, D. B. Reynolds

United States Air Force: Publications

This paper describes a revision of the Hill-type muscle model so that it will describe the chemo-mechanical energy conversion process (energetic) and the internal-element sti2ness variation (viscoelastic) during a skeletal muscle isometric force twitch contraction. The derivation of this energetic–viscoelastic model is described by a 3rst-order linear ordinary di2erential equation with constant energetic and viscoelastic coe5cients. The model has been implemented as part of a biomimetic model, which describes the excitation–contraction coupling necessary to drive the energetic–viscoelastic model. Finally, the energetic–viscoelastic model is validated by comparing its isometric force–time pro3le with that of various muscles reported in the literature.
