Synthesis And Characterization Of Potential Drug Delivery Systems Using Nonionic Surfactant “Niosome”, Sukit Leekumjorn Mar 2004

Synthesis And Characterization Of Potential Drug Delivery Systems Using Nonionic Surfactant “Niosome”, Sukit Leekumjorn

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Niosomes are synthetic microscopic vesicles consisting of an aqueous core enclosed in a bilayer consisting of cholesterol and one or more nonionic surfactants. They are made of biocompatible, biodegradable, non-toxic, non-immunogenic and non-carcinogenic agents which form closed spherical structures (self assembly vesicles) upon hydration. With high resistance to hydrolytic degradation, niosomes are capable of entrapping many kinds of soluble drugs while exhibiting greater vesicle stability and longer shelf life.

In this work, a potential drug delivery system has been designed, synthesized and characterized. For the synthesis of niosomes, a hydration process was developed with varying design parameters such as mass …

Heterogeneous Chemistry Involving Methanol In Tropospheric Clouds, A. Tabazadeh, Robert J. Yokelson, H. B. Singh, Peter V. Hobbs, J. H. Crawford, L. T. Iraci Mar 2004

Heterogeneous Chemistry Involving Methanol In Tropospheric Clouds, A. Tabazadeh, Robert J. Yokelson, H. B. Singh, Peter V. Hobbs, J. H. Crawford, L. T. Iraci

Chemistry and Biochemistry Faculty Publications

In this report we analyze airborne measurements to suggest that methanol in biomass burning smoke is lost heterogeneously in clouds. When a smoke plume intersected a cumulus cloud during the SAFARI 2000 field project, the observed methanol gas phase concentration rapidly declined. Current understanding of gas and aqueous phase chemistry cannot explain the loss of methanol documented by these measurements. Two plausible heterogeneous reactions are proposed to explain the observed simultaneous loss and production of methanol and formaldehyde, respectively. If the rapid heterogeneous processing of methanol, seen in a cloud impacted by smoke, occurs in more pristine clouds, it could …

The Importance Of Corporate Models, Benedict C. Sheehy Mar 2004

The Importance Of Corporate Models, Benedict C. Sheehy

ExpressO

This article argues that the debate concerning the nature of the corporation is not finished and nor a mere intellectual exercise for interested legal academics. The current model of the corporation as an economic entity—the firm—has a number of imbedded value assumptions. Given the common territory between corporate law and economics, some scholars have come to identify the two as equal partners striving for the same ends. This is a serious error which has had and continues to have significant negative consequences for both the economic situation of the majority and justice in society. These value assumptions are being seriously …

Synthesis Of Nanoscale Structures In Single Crystal Silicon Carbide By Electron Beam Lithography, Jay A. Bieber Mar 2004

Synthesis Of Nanoscale Structures In Single Crystal Silicon Carbide By Electron Beam Lithography, Jay A. Bieber

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Nanostructures were formed on diced specimens of several silicon carbide polytypes and silicon using electron beam lithography. A general introduction to nanostructure synthesis and electron beam lithography, are presented. A scanning electron microscope was retrofitted with a commercially available electron beam lithography package and an electrostatic beam blanker to permit nanoscale lithography to be performed.

A process was first developed and optimized on silicon substrates to expose, poly-methyl-methacrylate (PMMA) resist with an electron beam to make nanoscale nickel masks for reactive ion etching. The masks consist of an array of nickel dots that range in size from 20 to 100 nm …

English 354: Advanced Composition: Writing Ourselves/Communities Into Public Conversations, Amy M. Goodburn, Heather Camp Mar 2004

English 354: Advanced Composition: Writing Ourselves/Communities Into Public Conversations, Amy M. Goodburn, Heather Camp

Department of English: Faculty Publications

English 354: Advanced Composition is a required course for undergraduate majors in English, broadcast journalism, criminal justice, and pre-service English education, among others, at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, a research-one, land-grant institution with a student population of about 24,000. English 354 focuses on “intensive study and practice in writing non-fi ction prose” and has a prerequisite of at least one 200-level writing course.

In Writing Ourselves/Communities into Public Conversations, our students explore public and private arguments and analyze how arguments are made within each (overlapping) sphere. We want them to consider the varying and sometimes competing strategies used to construct …

Interaction Between Amino Propeptides Of Type Xi Procollagen Α1 Chains, Julia T. Oxford Mar 2004

Interaction Between Amino Propeptides Of Type Xi Procollagen Α1 Chains, Julia T. Oxford

Biomedical Research Institute Publications and Presentations

Type XI collagen is a quantitatively minor yet essential constituent of the cartilage extracellular matrix. The amino propeptide of the α1 chain remains attached to the rest of the molecule for a longer period of time after synthesis than the other amino propeptides of type XI collagen and has been localized to the surface of thin collagen fibrils. Yeast two-hybrid system was used to demonstrate that a homodimer of α1(XI) amino propeptide (α1(XI)Npp) could form in vivo. Interaction was also confirmed using multi-angle laser light scattering, detecting an absolute weight average molar mass ranging from the size of a monomer …
