Using Adr To Resolve Online Disputes, Aashit Shah
Using Adr To Resolve Online Disputes, Aashit Shah
Richmond Journal of Law & Technology
In the context of the Internet, where parties located in different corners of the world can contract with each other at the click of a mouse, litigation of online disputes is often inconvenient, impractical, time-consuming and prohibitive. Providing an alternative approach to resolve online disputes might assist in redressing grievances and gaining consumer confidence in e-commerce. Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) is an appurtenant candidate for such an approach. The Virtual Magistrate Project, launched in 1996, initiated the idea of using ADR to resolve Internet-related disputes. The joint statement promoting the use of ADR in cyberspace, made by the European Union …

To all who come to this fictitious place:Welcome.Fauxtopia is your land. Here, age relives distorted memories of the past, and here, youth may savor the challenge of trying to understand the present. Fauxtopia is made up of the ideals, the dreams and the fuzzy facts which have re-created reality... with the hope that it will be a source of edutainment for all the world.Ray KampfFauxtopia DedicationApril 1st, 2004
Soul Hunting, Guido Esteban Alvarez
Soul Hunting, Guido Esteban Alvarez
Theses and Dissertations
According to the Webster's unabridged dictionary, a mania is an excessively intense enthusiasm, interest, or desire; a craze. I experience a mania on a daily basis: I take photographs. I trap photographs inside flat, airless fish tanks where time stands still. The creatures captured inside the tanks resurrect every time I see them to remind me of a sound, an odor, a flavor, and, ultimately, a feeling I once experienced and now cherish. This project will attempt to show the energy captured in my photographic archives as a journey through my memories using an experimental interactive method.

Control Synthesis In Colored Condition Systems, Praveen Mandavilli
Control Synthesis In Colored Condition Systems, Praveen Mandavilli
University of Kentucky Master's Theses
With complex systems, monolithic models become impractical and it becomes necessary to model them through subsystems and components. Unless these components and subsystems are structured, exploiting them in a methodical manner to develop a control logic for them also becomes complex. In the previous research, to characterize the input/output behavior of discrete state interacting, systems a condition language framework was defined and algorithms that can automatically generate a controller given the system model and the desired specification using this framework were presented. Though this framework and the control algorithms are ideally suited to simple systems, representation of components with large …
Long-Range Visibility Of Greater Sage Grouse Leks: A Gis-Based Analysis, Andrea S. Aspbury, Robert M. Gibson
Long-Range Visibility Of Greater Sage Grouse Leks: A Gis-Based Analysis, Andrea S. Aspbury, Robert M. Gibson
School of Biological Sciences: Faculty Publications
We investigated whether male greater sage grouse, Centrocercus urophasianus, select lek locations on the basis of topographic features that affect their visibility to both conspecific females and a major avian predator, the golden eagle, Aquila chrysaetos. We mapped locations of displaying males at all leks in a local population and used a Geographic Information System (GIS) and digital elevation model (DEM) to generate ‘viewsheds’ around male locations within a boundary set by the estimated maximal visual acuity of the viewer. Areas visible around leks were compared to those visible around random sites with the same conformation of displaying …

Sheep Hill Community Tree, Kimberly Ann Fleischman
Theses and Dissertations
An urban community is a fusion of new and old that is constantly changing. We understand better the plight of a community through raising awareness of its unique history and visual character. Linking individual and community experiences offers an opportunity for dialogue, especially as long-time residents and their new neighbors learn about their different pasts and explore their common future. Community building happens from within, when many individuals sharing common values create positive change.

Art Tales: Art As A Communicator Of New York State Folklore, Erin Claire Tobin
Theses
This thesis project focuses on the use of folktales as a starting point to explore texture and pattern. The artist was striving to create a visual communication of folktales. Using physical layers in the paintings to create spatial depth as well as to express the idea of the building of layers as a metaphor for the story of life, the artist engages the viewer to relate this to the idea that culture is built from many different layers of stories over time.

Lorem Ipsum, A Story About Words And Pictures: What They Can Do, And What They Can't, David Huth
Theses
Everything we understand about the world comes to us through, and can be captured by, the linguistic use of words and pictures. Or does it? This is a question that addresses the core function and purpose of visual communications design. The question is explored in this film thematically, narratively, and technically, by portraying a story about a person struggling to understand language and solve a unique, high stakes design problem: the library cataloging of an entire human life. This is a creative project that uses computer graphics design technology and the unique presentation of typographical design problems to provoke thought …
A Model For Predicting The Performance Of Ip Videoconferencing, Licha Mued
A Model For Predicting The Performance Of Ip Videoconferencing, Licha Mued
School of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics Theses
With the incorporation of free desktop videoconferencing (DVC) software on the majority of the world's PCs, over the recent years, there has, inevitably, been considerable interest in using DVC over the Internet. The growing popularity of DVC increases the need for multimedia quality assessment. However, the task of predicting the perceived multimedia quality over the Internet Protocol (IP) networks is complicated by the fact that the audio and video streams are susceptible to unique impairments due to the unpredictable nature of IP networks, different types of task scenarios, different levels of complexity, and other related factors. To date, a standard …

Comprehensive Evaluation Of Animated Instructional Software For Mechanics Of Materials, Timothy A. Philpot, Richard H. Hall
Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works
During the past three years, the Basic Engineering Department at the University of Missouri--Rolla has been developing a second-generation suite of instructional software called MecMovies for the mechanics of materials course. In the Fall 2003 semester, MecMovies was integrated into assignments throughout the entire semester for one of the six UMR mechanics of materials sections. This paper presents a comparison of student performance in the experimental section with student performance in five control sections along with discussion of student qualitative ratings and comments.
The Deceit Of Internet Hate Speech: A Study Of The Narrative And Visual Methods Used By Hate Groups On The Internet, Gina M. Albano
The Deceit Of Internet Hate Speech: A Study Of The Narrative And Visual Methods Used By Hate Groups On The Internet, Gina M. Albano
Theses
Intentional misinformation is a problem that has been documented in a variety of shapes and forms for thousands of years and continues to plague the American landscape. The advent and increasing usage of the Internet has created an additional venue through which intentional misinformation is disseminated, and many groups are taking full advantage of this new communication medium. Because the Internet allows anyone with web publishing skills to disseminate misinformation, it is often difficult for users to judge the credibility of the information. Hate groups understand this phenomenon and are taking full advantage of the Internet by publishing hate sites …
