Hospital Volunteers: A Study Of Motivation, Judith Blanchard

Master's Theses

This study was conducted using in-depth interviews of 21 hospital volunteers to determine what motivations were operative in their choice to volunteer in a hospital and to determine whether any significant differences with regard to their motivation could be ascertained on the basis of age or gender. The study further probed the satisfaction and needs of these volunteers relative to their choice and motivation.

The study found that a combination of altruistic concerns, personal interests, and needs were fundamental to the study participants' volunteer choices. No clear differences in motivation were found on the basis of gender. Retirement from employment …

An Assessment Of The Factors That Affect The Level Of "Perception Of Office Politics", Charles U. Phillips Oct 2004

An Assessment Of The Factors That Affect The Level Of "Perception Of Office Politics", Charles U. Phillips

Graduate Student Dissertations, Theses, Capstones, and Portfolios

The culture of an organization is often the primary indicator of the expected and accepted employee behavior. Organizations with weak directives, poor communication, and ineffectively managed cultures are breeding grounds for the negative dysfunctional interpersonal dynamics referred as "office politics." Studies indicate that considerable time and energy are lost to solving problematic issues originating from the influences of office politics in organizations with weak cultural expectations. Therefore, it is conceivable that developing a positive organizational culture that facilitates certain values is an important step in eliminating the ill effects of office politics.

The purpose of this quantitative non-experimental study was …

Making Research Matter More, Ben Levin Oct 2004

Making Research Matter More, Ben Levin

Education Policy Analysis Archives (EPAA)

Interest in strengthening the impact and value of education research has been growing around the world. Here I outline a view of the nature of “impact” and point to instances where research has had a positive impact in education, but always within a larger social and political framework. A three element “model” of research impact is developed and used as the basis to assess current situations and to suggest steps that could be taken to support a fuller contribution to education and learning from research.

Using Genetic Analyses To Identify Predators, C. L. Williams, J. J. Johnston Oct 2004

Using Genetic Analyses To Identify Predators, C. L. Williams, J. J. Johnston

Sheep and Goat Research Journal

Coyote and dog depredation account for much of the economic losses to livestock in the United States (National Agricultural Statistical Service, 2000, 2001). However, depredation by other species (such as members of reintroduced wolf populations) can be more socially and politically contentious. Predators are often elusive and attacks on livestock are not often witnessed but the species of predator causing stock losses can sometimes be ascertained from evidence near the carcass (such as scat or hair), the attack pattern, or size and spacing of bite wounds. However, these species assignments can be subjective and may be influenced by the experience …

There have been concerns reported by students about RA's and security officers breaching their privacy. On October 13, University of Hawaii Professor of Dance Judy Van Zile lectured on dance movements in relation to spirituality in Korean culture. Elizabeth Weiss has written an article on page 8 about fun things to do in Wooster if you are staying over fall break.

On The Green Vol. 35 No. 2 October 15, 2004, Gallaudet University

2001-2010

On the Green is an internal publication of Gallaudet College, which later became Gallaudet University. It notified employees of updates around the campus and in the broader community, including new construction and the establishment of new academic programs. Running until 2010, it was supplanted by various forms of online mass communications across multiple audiences.
