Bovine Tuberculosis In Swedish Farmed Deer: Detection And Control Of The Disease, Helene Wahlström
Bovine Tuberculosis In Swedish Farmed Deer: Detection And Control Of The Disease, Helene Wahlström
Michigan Bovine Tuberculosis Bibliography and Database
Bovine tuberculosis (BTB) was introduced into Swedish farmed deer herds in 1987. Epidemiological investigations showed that 10 deer herds had become infected (July 1994) and a common source of infection, a consignment of 168 imported farmed fallow deer, was identified (I).
As trace-back of all imported and in-contact deer was not possible, a control program, based on tuberculin testing, was implemented in July 1994. As Sweden has been free from BTB since 1958, few practicing veterinarians had experience in tuberculin testing. In this test, result relies on the skill, experience and conscientiousness of the testing veterinarian. Deficiencies in performing the …

The February 13, 2003 Federal Register revised the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA’s) “Part 412-Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations (CAFO) Point Source Category,” which described the revised Effluent Limitations Guidelines (ELG) and New Source Performance Standards (NSPS) for concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFOs). The regulation applies to manure, litter, and/or process wastewater discharges resulting from CAFOs. Subpart C addresses dairy cows and cattle other than veal calves, which includes dairy operations and beef cattle feedlots. Subpart D addresses swine, poultry, and veal calves. Baseline ELGs in the revised rule prohibit discharge of process waste waters except when rainfall events …

Identification Of Protein Interaction Between The Drosophila Runx1 Transcription Factor Lozenge And Ets-1 Factor Pointed Using Site Directed Mutagenesis And Yeast Two-Hybrid Analysis, Shalini Singh
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Many classes of transcriptional regulatory proteins are known to function in both cell proliferation and differentiation. Runx1 proteins one such family of transcription factors, plays critical roles in hematopoiesis, osteogenesis and leukemogenesis and act as promoter organizers that cooperate with other transcription factors such as Ets-1 in the regulation of gene activation or repression. Genes that are regulated by the Runx1-Ets1 complex, frequently have multiple, adjacent consensus binding sites in their promoters. I have investigated a similar interaction in developing fly eye. Lozenge (DmRunx1) and Pointed P2 (DmEts-1) cooperate to upregulate expression of prospero, which has multiple Lz and Ets …

Self -Care, Perceived Rewards & Hazards, And Personal & Professional Satisfaction In Psychologists In Independent Practice, Joshua M. Buley
Self -Care, Perceived Rewards & Hazards, And Personal & Professional Satisfaction In Psychologists In Independent Practice, Joshua M. Buley
All-Inclusive List of Electronic Theses and Dissertations
There has been a recent emphasis in the professional literature on the importance of psychologists utilizing a variety of self-care activities in order to buffer against and combat the stressors inherent to their careers. In addition, it has been suggested that due to the proliferation of managed care and other "seismic shifts" within the profession, that hazards associated with the career have increased, while rewards have decreased. There is currently limited information available regarding the extent to which psychologists in independent practice engage in various self-care activities, the perceived helpfulness of engaging in these activities, and relationships among self-care and …

Energy And Nitrogen Utilization Of Corn Rootworm Protected Corn (Event Mon 863) And Similar Non-Transgenic Corn In Young Pigs, Robert L. Fischer, Phillip S. Miller
Nebraska Swine Reports
This experiment was conducted to compare the nutritional value, measured by digestible and metabolizable energy, and nitrogen digestibility in young pigs fed either corn rootworm protected test corn (event MON 863, RX740CRW) or a genetically similar non-transgenic control corn (RX740). The experiment used 12 barrows with an initial body weight of 74.5 lb. The pigs were housed individually in stainless steel metabolism crates and were randomly allotted to one of two corn treatments, either corn rootworm protected corn or non-transgenic control corn. Diets were formulated to contain 97.5% of test or control corn and 2.5% minerals and vitamins. The duration …

Relationship Between Early Feeding And Communication Development In Infants: Birth To 12 Months, S J. Massey, Kathryn Hird, K Simmer
Medical Conference Papers
Introduction: Anecdotal reports suggest that infants experiencing early feeding difficulties may have delays in communication development.
Methods: The first stage of the study involved the development of a theoretically based assessment protocol to test the hypothesis of linked or independent processes required for feeding and speech. The assessment protocol will be piloted on 10 full term and 10 preterm infants at birth, 4, 8 and 12 months post term age. Measures of inter-judge and intra-judge reliability will also be taken of the observation protocol. Observation of the infant's language, speech, environment and maternal relationship will also be conducted to determine …

Lethal Experimentation On Human Beings: Roe's Effect On Bioethics, William L. Saunders, Jr.
Lethal Experimentation On Human Beings: Roe's Effect On Bioethics, William L. Saunders, Jr.
Fordham Urban Law Journal
Beginning with the assumption that human life begins at conception, this article explores the problematic terrain accompanying embryonic stem cell research and human cloning. "Lethal Experimentation on Human Beings," as enumerated in the article's title, refers to experimentation on and the removal of stem cells from human embryos, both of which "kill" a human being. The article warns that the holding in Roe v. Wade, which recognizes only a qualified government interest in unborn life, has obscured a pressing need for proponents of embryonic stem cell research to prove why society's interest in this research outweighs the rights of the …

A Focus Of Human Infection By Haplorchis Taichui (Trematoda: Heterophyidae) In The Southern Philippines, Vicente Y. Belizario Jr., Winifreda U. De Leon, Mary Joan J. Bersabe, Purnomo, J. Kevin Baird, Michael J. Bangs
A Focus Of Human Infection By Haplorchis Taichui (Trematoda: Heterophyidae) In The Southern Philippines, Vicente Y. Belizario Jr., Winifreda U. De Leon, Mary Joan J. Bersabe, Purnomo, J. Kevin Baird, Michael J. Bangs
United States Navy: Publications
We report an exceptionally high rate of infection by Haplorchis taichui (Nishigori, 1924) in human populations on Mindanao Island, southern Philippines. This intestinal fluke is seldom encountered, and this is the first report of high prevalence of infection (36%) in humans by H. taichui in the Philippines. The likely source of haplorchine infection has been linked to consumption of raw or undercooked freshwater fish containing infective metacercariae. The most common clinical symptoms appeared as upper abdominal discomfort or pain and borborygmi. Praziquantel (75 mg/kg divided in 3 doses in 1 day) was a well-tolerated and effective treatment for infection by …
