Food For Thought: Consistent Protocol Could Strengthen Food Supply Security Measures, Lisa Lovett Mar 2004

Food For Thought: Consistent Protocol Could Strengthen Food Supply Security Measures, Lisa Lovett

Texas Wesleyan Law Review

When Americans buy food at their hometown grocery stores or frequent favorite restaurants, it is unlikely that much thought is given to whether any of the food consumed may ultimately cause their demise. They should. Food safety laws are an integral part of the domestic food supply and have been for most of this century. The attack on America on September 11, 2001 forced government officials, producers, and consumers to seek out and bolster any potential weak spots in national security. The domestic food supply is one such area of concern. The recent passage of the Public Health Security and …

Coyote Attacks: An Increasing Suburban Problem, Robert M. Timm, Rex O. Baker, Joe R. Bennett, Craig C. Coolahan

Vertebrate Pest Conference Proceedings: 21st (2004)

Coyote attacks on humans and pets have increased within the past 5 years in California. We discuss documented occurrences of coyote aggression and attacks on people, using data from USDA Wildlife Services, the California Department of Fish & Game, and other sources. Forty-eight such attacks on children and adults were verified from 1998 through 2003, compared to 41 attacks during the period 1988 through 1997; most incidents occurred in Southern California near the suburban-wildland interface. Attack incidents are typically preceded by a sequence of increasingly bold coyote behaviors, including: nighttime coyote attacks on pets; sightings of coyotes in neighborhoods at …

Save A Little Room For Me: The Necessity Of Naming As Inventors Practitioners Who Conceive Of Claimed Subject Matter, David Hricik, Alexandra Geczi, Zachary Thomas

Mercer Law Review

This Article addresses ethical and malpractice issues arising from the fact that attorneys who prosecute patents almost inevitably add to the inventor's original disclosure to the attorney. In the course of drafting a patent application-a process in which the attorney describes, necessarily in his own words, what the client has invented-the attorney will, at minimum, contribute ideas, thoughts, and means of expression that the client had not used. The application is not a verbatim transcript of an interview with the client; it is the creation of the patent lawyer. ...

However, under established law governing inventorship and derivation, seldom during …

Time-Of-Day Effects On Human Performance, Carolyn B. Hines Mar 2004

Time-Of-Day Effects On Human Performance, Carolyn B. Hines

Journal of Catholic Education

The course of study of time-of-day effects on human performance has not been an easy one to chart, with many findings that seem to be in opposition. This review examines the difference between group and individual differences with regard to time-of-day effects; time-of-day effects in individuals; morningness-eveningness as an individual characteristic; morningness-eveningness in adolescents; effect of time of day on cognition and academic performance; time-of-day effects on intelligence, testing, and academic achievement; the effect of matching individuals to their preferred time on academic achievement; and motivation as a primary confounding variable in time-of-day preference/academic performance studies. Other possible confounding variables …

Us Dairy Product Trade: Modeling Approaches And The Impact Of New Product Formulations, Charles F. Nicholson, Phillip M. Bishop Mar 2004

Us Dairy Product Trade: Modeling Approaches And The Impact Of New Product Formulations, Charles F. Nicholson, Phillip M. Bishop

Agribusiness

Several domestic and international developments increased interest among the US dairy industry in world markets during the 1990s. One development was the passage of the NAFTA and Uruguay Round (URA) trade agreements in the mid-decade, and their successors, the current “Doha Round” of international trade negotiations now underway. Another development during the 1990s was additional (positive) experience gained by the US dairy industry in export markets. Much of this experience came about because increases in world market prices for butter and powder in 1995-96 made US exports more competitive. The Dairy Export Incentive Program (DEIP) is also credited with improving …
