Vision-Based Human Directed Robot Guidance, Richard B. Arthur Oct 2004

Vision-Based Human Directed Robot Guidance, Richard B. Arthur

Theses and Dissertations

This paper describes methods to track a user-defined point in the vision of a robot as it drives forward. This tracking allows a robot to keep itself directed at that point while driving so that it can get to that user-defined point. I develop and present two new multi-scale algorithms for tracking arbitrary points between two frames of video, as well as through a video sequence. The multi-scale algorithms do not use the traditional pyramid image, but instead use a data structure called an integral image (also known as a summed area table). The first algorithm uses edge-detection to track …

Decyzja Komisji Europejskiej Z 24 Marca 2004 R. W Sprawie Comp/C-3.37.792 Microsoft, Justyna Majcher

European Management Studies

This communiqué relates to the Decision of the European Commission of 24 March 2004 in Case Microsoft. In the Decision, the Commission concluded that Microsoft Corporation broke EC competition law by leveraging its near monopoly on the market of PC operating systems onto the markets of work group server operating systems and of media players. The Commission ordered Microsoft to disclose to competitors the interfaces required for their products to be interoperable with Windows. Microsoft is also required to offer to PC manufacturers a version of its Windows without Windows Media Player. Microsoft was fined € 497 million.

Kontrola Koncentracji Mediów W Dobie Digitalizacji. Pomiędzy Regulacją A Konkurencją, Marcin Kolasiński Oct 2004

Kontrola Koncentracji Mediów W Dobie Digitalizacji. Pomiędzy Regulacją A Konkurencją, Marcin Kolasiński

European Management Studies

The article concerns the problem of the control of media concentration. Due to the specific nature of this form of economic activity, there are various concepts of appropriate law mechanisms to regulate market structure. The main doubts are connected with the fact that the element protected by law in this case is not market competition in the pure economic sense, but, above all, media pluralism. A guarantee of the existence of this value, according to the supporters of detailed sector regulation, requires a definition of the admissible forms of administrative interference into the ownership structures of media entrepreneurs. Opponents of …

Czy Możliwa Jest Demokratyczna Debata O Regulacji Rynku Mediów?, Przemysław Hensel Oct 2004

Czy Możliwa Jest Demokratyczna Debata O Regulacji Rynku Mediów?, Przemysław Hensel

European Management Studies

The starting point for this text is the assumption that regulation of the mass media sector is a political problem and, therefore, a democratic debate is an indispensable prerequisite for settling it. The analysis of stakeholders' interests in this sector is conducted in order to answer the question formulated in the text's title. Next, two theories (the agenda-setting theory, the framing effect theory) are presented with the intention of explaining how the media outlets influence public debate on mass media sector regulation. Then, strategies of influence most often used on the Polish media market are described. Finally, the consequences of …

Variation Simulation Of Fixtured Assembly Processes For Compliant Structures Using Piecewise-Linear Analysis, Michael L. Stewart Oct 2004

Variation Simulation Of Fixtured Assembly Processes For Compliant Structures Using Piecewise-Linear Analysis, Michael L. Stewart

Theses and Dissertations

While variation analysis methods for compliant assemblies are not new, little has been done to include the effects of multi-step, fixtured assembly processes. This thesis introduces a new method to statistically analyze compliant part assembly processes using fixtures. This method, consistent with the FASTA method developed at BYU, yields both a mean and a variant solution. The method, called Piecewise-Linear Elastic Analysis, or PLEA, is developed for predicting the residual stress, deformation and springback variation in compliant assemblies. A comprehensive, step-by-step analysis map is provided. PLEA is validated on a simple, laboratory assembly and a more complex, production assembly. Significant …
