The Market For Private Dispute Resolution Services--An Empirical Re-Assessment Of Icann-Udrp Performance, Jay P. Kesan, Andres A. Gallo

ExpressO

The impressive growth of the Internet in the 1990s and the boom of the e-economy generated a competition for domain names in the most coveted of the top level domain names, i.e., the .com space. The Market For Criminal Justice: Federalism, Crime Control And Jurisdictional Competition, Doron Teichman Sep 2004

The Market For Criminal Justice: Federalism, Crime Control And Jurisdictional Competition, Doron Teichman

Law & Economics Working Papers Archive: 2003-2009

For the most part, the United States has a decentralized criminal justice system. State legislatures define the majority of crimes and set out the punishments for those crimes. This article points out how this decentralized structure drives local jurisdictions to harshen their criminal justice system in order to displace crime to neighboring jurisdictions. Why Jim Does Not Escape To Illinois In Mark Twain’S Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn, James Tackach Sep 2004

Why Jim Does Not Escape To Illinois In Mark Twain’S Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn, James Tackach

Arts & Sciences Faculty Publications

Among critical readers of Mark Twain’s Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Jim’s decision not to escape from slavery by merely crossing the Mississippi River to the Illinois shore provokes active discussion. This article examines Jim’s decision in light of the racial climates of Ohio and Illinois during the 1840s, the setting of Twin’s novel and provides more evidence that Jim’s plan to steer clear of Illinois and head toward Ohio was quite sound.
