Graph Based Image Matching, Hui Jiang, Chong-Wah Ngo Aug 2004

Graph Based Image Matching, Hui Jiang, Chong-Wah Ngo

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems

Given two or more images, we can define different but related problems on pattern matching such as image registration, pattern detection and localization, and common pattern discovery. These problems have different levels of purpose and difficulties, as a result, often associate with different solutions. In this paper, we propose a novel approach to solve these problems under a unified framework based on graph matching. We first split the images into small blocks and represent each block as a node in a bipartite graph. A maximum weighted bipartite graph matching algorithm is then employed in an iterative way to find the …

Omaha's Krug Park Roller Coaster Accident: Exploring The Diffusion Of Communication In Newspapers And Among Omaha Residents, Melissa L. Kucirek

Student Work

This thesis focused on the 1930 rollercoaster accident at Krug Park. Applying the diffusion of communication theory, and an historical standard of press performance set forth by Martin & Nelson (1956), this study found that The Omaha World-Herald and The Omaha Bee News coverage of the crash was balanced and thorough. Articles were compared to the City of Omaha amusement ride statutes. The second portion of the study examined 96 newspaper articles mentioning Krug Park between December 15, 1930, and May 25, 2001, and discovered the majority did not refer to the accident. This thesis supports previous research on crisis …

A Comparison Of Moth Diversity And Abundance Along An Altitudinal Gradient In Monteverde, Costa Rica, August 2004, Katie Swartz

Monteverde Institute: Tropical Ecology and Conservation

Costa Rica has high moth (Lepidoptera) diversity, with relatively little known about its distribution (Hanson 2000). Insects tend to decrease in richness and abundance along an altitudinal gradient (Brehm and Fiedler 2003). Lepidopterans are important indicators of environmental health, important herbivores, vital prey species, and a large draw for the country’s main source of income, ecotourists. The purpose of this study was to compare moth diversity and abundance at varying altitudes. Moths were trapped using an ultra violet light and a sheet at three different altitudes (1530 m, 1639 m, and 1759 m) over six nights between July 26th and …

Between Lama Dei Peligni And Colledimacine: A Regional Geography (Of Boundaries) Of The Majella Massif And Aventino Valley, Abruzzo, Italy, Patrick Barron

English Faculty Publication Series

This thesis examines the oftentimes porous boundaries that define space. Specifically, it is based on the form, function, and meaning of the boundaries of the Aventino Valley, the Majella Massif, Lama dei Peligni, and Colledimacine in Abruzzo, Italy, and emerges from the broad intersection of cultural geography, photography, literature, folklore, spatial theory, and boundary theory. In constructing a regional geographic portrait of the study area by analyzing its prominent and hidden edges, the thesis demonstrates how boundaries, as definers of physical space, are also key indicators of cultural activity. A central claim is that the analysis of a vernacular landscape’s …

Hsp27 Anti-Sense Oligonucleotides Sensitize The Microtubular Cytoskeleton Of Chinese Hamster Ovary Cells Grown At Low Ph To 42 Degrees C-Induced Reorganization, Michael T. Hargis, C. W. Storck, Eric Wickstrom, Leonid A. Yakubov, Dennis B. Leeper, Ronald A. Coss Aug 2004

Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Faculty Papers

Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells maintained in vitro at pH 6.7 were used to model cells in the acidic environment of tumours. CHO cells grown at pH 6.7 develop thermotolerance during 42 degrees C heating at pH 6.7 and their cytoskeletal systems are resistant to 42 degrees C-induced perinuclear collapse. Hsp27 levels are elevated in cells grown at pH 6.7 and are further induced during 42 degrees C heating, while Hsp70 levels remain low or undetectable, suggesting that Hsp27 is responsible for some of the novel characteristics of these cells. An anti-sense oligonucleotide strategy was used to test the importance …

Psychophysical Studies Of Binocular And Spatial Vision In Humans With Anisometropic And Strabismic Amblyopia, Ritwick Agrawal Aug 2004

Psychophysical Studies Of Binocular And Spatial Vision In Humans With Anisometropic And Strabismic Amblyopia, Ritwick Agrawal

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

Amblyopia is a common developmental visual disorder. Previous studies of amblyopia have delineated spatial and binocular deficits. However debate exists about how the strabismic and anisometropic subtypes may differ. The central hypothesis is that the two subtypes differ with regard to binocular integration functions. Strabismic subjects may show severe impairments of binocular integration due to a history inter-ocular suppression, which predicts the pattern of monocular deficits. Seven anisometropic, six strabismic and seven control subjects were tested psychophysically with four monocular tests and three binocular tests. Results indicated that the degree of loss of Vernier acuity was larger than that predicted …

Demography And Genetic Structure Of An Allegheny Woodrat Population In Northcentral West Virginia, Mary Elizabeth Manjerovic

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)

The Allegheny woodrat (Neotoma magister) occurs throughout the Appalachian Mountains forming isolated colonies in rock outcrops, cliffs, and caves. In the past 20--30 years, populations along the northern and western peripheries of the range have experienced drastic declines. There have been suggested reasons for this decline but a lack of long-term data has prevented application of specific management actions. In recent years, there has been more insight into population structure, gene flow, and relatedness among colonies. The objectives of my study were to examine these factors at a localized level to further assist with future management decisions.;Using data collected over …
