2003 Nebraska Ag Worker Compensation Requirements, J. David Aiken Oct 2003

2003 Nebraska Ag Worker Compensation Requirements, J. David Aiken

Cornhusker Economics

The purpose of the Nebraska worker compensation program is to provide no-fault compensation to employees injured on the job. Traditionally farm and ranch workers have been exempted from Nebraska worker compensation statutes, despite the fact that agriculture is one of Nebraska’s most dangerous industries. For many years the Supreme Court has interpreted the farm and ranch worker exemption narrowly in order to provide worker compensation protection to as many injured agricultural workers as possible. This attitude was reflected in a 2002 opinion (Larsen v D B Feedyards, 264 Neb 483) in which the Nebraska Supreme Court ruled that a cattle …

Fairplay Or Greed: Mandating University Responsibility Toward Student Inventors, Carmen J. Mccutcheon Oct 2003

Fairplay Or Greed: Mandating University Responsibility Toward Student Inventors, Carmen J. Mccutcheon

Duke Law & Technology Review

Over twenty years have passed since the enactment of The Patent and Trademark Law Amendments Act (Bayh-Dole Act) and universities continue to struggle with their technology transfer infrastructures. Lost in that struggle are those who could be considered the backbone of university research: the students. Graduate and undergraduate students remain baffled by the patent assignment and technology transfer processes within their various institutions. Efforts should be undertaken by universities to clarify the student's position in the creative process.

Signs Of Life: Rediscovering Nineteenth Century Indian Key Through Glass Analysis, Alexis Broadbent Sykes

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Archaeological investigations of Indian Key Historic State Park in the Florida Keys have uncovered a wide range of historical artifacts from throughout the nineteenth century that reveal how the site was reused and reoccupied through time. This thesis focuses on the glass component recovered from a house cistern complex (Feature F) and a warehouse (Features A and C) during the 1998 to 2002 field seasons. Glass artifacts range from a variety of bottle glass including alcohol bottles and proprietary medicines, to cut glass such as tumblers and decanters, to window glass.

Feature F's analysis has shown that it maintained a …
