This study was designed to assess the effect of nifedipine and sufentanil prior to induction of anesthesia on ocular tension in glaucomatous pa­tients. This study was accomplished on ninety patients of either sex. Their ages ranged from 30-60 years. They were classified into six groups, each comprised fifteen patients. Forty five of the patients {groups 1,11,11) received thiopentone 5mg/kg for induction, and the second half (group IV.V.VI) received propofol 2 mg/kg. This work was planned to evaluate the role of interferon gamma (IFNy) and IL-12 in tuberculous children and their relation to hypersensitivity and disease susceptibility. For this pur­pose we studied 19 children with new­ly diagnosed tuberculosis; 12 with pul­monary TB and 7 with tuberculous lymphadenopathy; in addition to 12 asymptomatic contacts with positive tuberculin test and 13 healthy tuber­culin negative children with matched age and sex. This work was carried out on adolescent female students in Man­soura to study the prevalence, deter­minants, impacts as well as treatment practices of dysmenorrhea. A total of 664 female students were selected by cluster sampling techniques from pub­lic general and technical secondary schools of urban and rural areas. Data was collected through an anony­mous self ad ministered questionnaire during the class time. Twenty-two (3.3%) of students never menstruated. The median age of menarche was 13 years. About three-fourths of students experienced dysmenorrhea. Dysmenorrhea was mild, moderate and severe in 55.35%, 29.9% and 14.8% of cases, respec­tively. Fatigue, headache, backache and …

Stroml changes may play an im­portant role in progression, invasion and prognosis of colorectal tumors. Biopsy specimens of colorectal tu­mors were evaluated for stromal char­acterizations. Section stained with Haematoxyline and eosin (H&E) were examined as regard the presence of tumor infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) and tumor associated eosinophilic in­filtrate (TE). The number of TILs were larger in earliest stages of colorectal cancers and decreased with the pres­ence of metastasis. This Article explores the U.S. "patent first, ask questions later" approach to determining what subject matter should receive patent protection. Under this approach, the US. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO or the Agency) issues patents on "anything under the sun made by man," and to the extent a patent's subject matter is sufficiently controversial, Congress acts retrospectively in assessing whether patents should issue on such inventions. Background and Purpose. The fear of falling can have detrimental effects on physical function in the elderly population, but the relationship between a persons' confidence in the ability to maintain balance and actual balance ability and functional mobility is not known. The extent to which balance confidence can be explained by balance performance, functional mobility, and sociodemographic, psychosocial, and health-related factors was the focus of this study.

Subjects. The subjects were 50 community-dwelling elderly people, aged 65 to 95 years (X̄=81.7, SD=6.7).

This paper analyzes the relationship between financial services provided by different agents, the adoption of agroforestry systems, and the implications for food security and sustainable soil management. Attention is focussed on the role of rural finance in reducing risk and stabilizing household income and yields. We conclude that credit provision performs critical functions for reinforcing the resilience of rural livelihoods in less-favored areas. Rural development programs in the Occidental region of Honduras have been rather reluctant to provide rural financial services. As of late 2003, more than 500 antimicrobial peptides have been reported. However, the majority data of the antimicrobial peptides are scattered in the literature. In order to better understand the structure-function relationship of these peptides, and antimicrobial peptide database and analysis system (APD) was established based on an extensive literature search. The database contains detailed information for 525 peptides (498 antibacterial , 155 antifungal, 28 antiviral, and 18 antitumor). Based on the database, the system also provides database query, statistical data, prediction and peptide design functions. The availability of large fragments of genomic DNA makes it possible to apply comparative genomics for identification of protein-coding regions. We have conducted a comparative analysis of homologous genomic sequences of organisms with different evolutionary distances and found the conservation of the non-coding regions between closely related organisms. In contrast, more distance shows much less intron similarity but less conversion on the exon structures.
