OBJECTIVE: It has been suggested from previous studies that there is an associated increased risk of coronary artery disease (CAD) in patients with Helicobacter pylori (H.pylori). However, others dispute this. We therefore evaluated this hypothesis in a group of patients with confirmed H.pylori infection. METHODS: A total of 158 patients with dyspeptic symptoms were evaluated by esophago-gastro-duodenoscopy (EGD) in King Khalid University Hospital in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from May through to June 1997. OBJECTIVE: A retrospective analysis of skin cancers in a major referral centre in Taif region, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, (KSA). METHODS: The case records of all malignant skin cancers diagnosed during a 10 year period, from 1992 through to 2001 were taken for the study. The clinical and histopathological details were noted. These were compared to reports from the rest of KSA and other countries. RESULTS: One hundred and four cases of malignant skin lesions including primary and metastatic tumors were seen. Mesenteric teratoma is an extremely rare tumor, arising, akin all other teratomas, from totipotent primordial cells and displays a mixture of tissues of tridermal or bidermal origin. Two cases of mature mesenteric teratoma in a 5-month-old girl and a 4-month-old boy, the youngest reported in the literature, excluding a case recently diagnosed prenatally, are described. Diagnostic tools, differential diagnosis and management are also discussed.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate and compare 3 widely used molecular techniques, namely, restriction endonuclease analysis of plasmid deoxyribonucleic acid (REAP), randomly amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) and pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) for their suitability and usefulness in the typing and fingerprinting of bacterial isolates. METHODS: Twenty-four epidemiologically unrelated methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) isolates were used to evaluate the molecular typing methods (REAP, RAPD and PFGE). The study was conducted at the Research and Diagnostic Laboratories of King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center from January 2002 through January 2003. The juxtaposition of physical space and social interaction among the precontact Samo people of Papua New Guinea's east Strickland Plain is analyzed through a rich cultural metaphor reflecting on where people habitually sleep. Where a person sleeps establishes individual status within the collectivity of a household, which is identified as both a dwelling and an interactive group of family-oriented people. A longhouse was typically built on a ridgetop amid gardens, sago-lined swamp, and surrounding forest, together creating an economic environment that, in effect, fed the community. Christianity dominates village sociality in the Hula villages of Papua New Guinea's southeastern coast to the extent that the United Church has appropriated and indigenized the Western custom of setting aside a day to celebrate motherhood. In the process Mother's Day has been transformed into an expression of local Christian values to which women should aspire. In many ways the events that take place invert gender roles, but we also find that certain things are always left to women. Offshore Gambling In Pacific Islands Tax Havens, Anthony B. Van Fossen

This article analyzes offshore (including Internet) gambling in Oceania-particularly its uneven development in Vanuatu, the Cook Islands, Norfolk Island, and Palau. Offshore gambling's evolution and future prospects are examined in terms of tensions between (1) the drive by entrepreneurs and regional taw-haven promoters to increase the volume and variety of gambling among the array of services that Pacific Islands tax havens provide and (2) the growing moves by metropolitan countries to curb taw avoidance and evasion, economic loss, money laundering, and other forms of crime and deviant behavior associated with offshore gambling.

The church as a culturally constructed location is constantly "unmade and remade" on Ujelang and Enewetak Atolls (Marshall Islands) with semantic values tied to wider social and historical changes. Stories about the original church represent it as a sacred site forming the physical, moral, and cosmogenic center of the Enewetak community. During World War II, Japanese military rule transformed the church into a location of resistance. During postwar exile to Ujelang Atoll, the village-centered church became a site where solidarity-enhancing practices allowed the community to confront isolation and suffering. DNA sequences are really huge having a length of around 3-4 million base pairs. Hence, each DNA sequence has to be cut down into small fragments using restriction enzymes. Once analyzed, these fragments have to be arranged or assembled into a single set of sequences called a genome map, to obtain the original DNA sequence. This problem is called the Genome Map Assembly Problem. A Constraint-Automata Solution was proposed for this purpose [11]. Constraint Datalog holds an increasing role in Trust Management. We discuss several Trust Management systems and give a description of the environment and requirements for Trust Management. Constraint Datalog using addition constraints and approximation theory provides an expressive semantic with which to describe security policies for credentials, delegations and authorizations. Approximation theory allows halting in Constraint Datalog over addition constraints. We use the decision problem of Diophantine equations to show that Constraint Datalog over addition constraints is complete. Combining these two concepts provides an approximately complete, safe language. The problem of constant additions to closed languages provides reasons for using …

This paper assesses the importance of border and non‐border policies for global economic integration. The focus is on four widely‐advocated policies: removing explicit restrictions to trade and FDI; promoting domestic competition; improving the adaptability of labour markets; and ensuring adequate levels of infrastructure capital. The analysis covers FDI and trade in both goods and services, thus aiming to account for the most important channels of globalisation and dealing with most modes of cross‐border services supply. The results highlight that, despite extensive liberalisation over the past two decades, there is scope for further reducing policy barriers to integration of OECD markets. …

On the whole, it has been long known that both speech (spoken language) and writing are different in various aspects; however, not many language teachers are fully able to differentiate between such differences. This paper, therefore, aims to outline and examine some significant differences between these two entities. In addition, the implication of how this understanding might be useful for language teachers will be discussed.

Enforcing Internationally Recognized Human Rights Violations Under The Alien Tort Claims Act: An Analysis Of The Ninth Circuit’S Decision In Doe V. Unocal, Joshua E. Kastenberg

This article analyzes Doe II under a multi-tiered rubric. The first tier involves analyzing whether the Ninth Circuit was correct in its jurisdictional interpretation. The second tier studies the extent to which the Ninth Circuit's use of international law expanded previously accepted usage by United States courts. For example, after reading Doe II, a question arises as to whether the Ninth Circuit created a "complete" universal jurisdiction for torts under the ATCA. The final tier, involves analyzing foreseen legal consequences. That is, does Doe II expand causes of action for foreign human rights violations because the decision reduces possible defenses …
