Cross-Cultural Measurement Invariance Of Work/Family Conflict Scales Across English-Speaking Samples, David Evan Loran Herst
Cross-Cultural Measurement Invariance Of Work/Family Conflict Scales Across English-Speaking Samples, David Evan Loran Herst
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
The factor structure of the work/family conflict scale developed by Carlson, Kacmar, & Williams (2000) was analyzed for measurement invariance between a US and an Australian/New Zealand (ANZ) sample using a multisample confirmatory factor analysis procedure. Results indicated that factor pattern fit between the female samples on the common model was good-to-mediocre, and factor pattern fit between the male samples and the common model was mediocre-to-poor. Both samples exhibited significant changes in chi square when testing for the more restrictive factor loading equivalence. Partial measurement invariance revealed a better fit between the male samples when three of the items were …

Measuring Recovery For Non-Contractual Investment, Omri Ben-Shahar, Robert A. Mikos
Measuring Recovery For Non-Contractual Investment, Omri Ben-Shahar, Robert A. Mikos
Law & Economics Working Papers Archive: 2003-2009
Parties who make investments that generate externalities may sometimes recover from the beneficiaries, even in the absence of contract. Previous scholarship has shown that granting recovery, based on either the cost of the investment or the benefit it confers, can provide optimal incentives to invest. However, this article demonstrates that the law often awards recovery that is neither purely cost-based, nor purely benefit-based, and instead equals either the greater-of or lesser-of the two measures. These hybrid approaches to recovery distort incentives to invest. The article demonstrates the prevalence of these practices, and explores informational and related reasons why they emerge. …

Wanted: A National Teacher Supply Policy For Education: The Right Way To Meet The "Highly Qualified Teacher" Challenge, Linda Darling-Hammond, Gary Sykes
Education Policy Analysis Archives (EPAA)
… We argue that teacher supply policy should attract well-prepared teachers to districts that sorely need them while relieving shortages in fields like special education, math and the physical sciences. We study the mal-distribution of teachers and examine its causes. We describe examples of both states and local school districts that have fashioned successful strategies for strengthening their teaching forces. ...

The Anchor, Volume 117.05: September 17, 2003, Hope College
The Anchor: 2003
The Anchor began in 1887 and was first issued weekly in 1914. Covering national and campus news alike, Hope College’s student-run newspaper has grown over the years to encompass over two-dozen editors, reporters, and staff. For much of The Anchor's history, the latest issue was distributed across campus each Wednesday throughout the academic school year (with few exceptions). In recent years The Anchor moved to monthly print issues and a more frequently updated website. The Anchor is now published in print twice per academic semester. Occasionally, the volume and/or issue numbering is irregular.

Large Nc And Chiral Dynamics, Joseph Schechter, Masayasu Harada, Francesco Sannino
Physics - All Scholarship
We study the dependence on the number of colors of the leading pi pi scattering amplitude in chiral dynamics. We demonstrate the existence of a critical number of colors for and above which the low energy pi pi scattering amplitude computed from the simple sum of the current algebra and vector meson terms is crossing symmetric and unitary at leading order in a truncated and regularized 1/Nc expansion. The critical number of colors turns out to be Nc=6 and is insensitive to the explicit breaking of chiral symmetry. Below this critical value, an additional state is needed to enforce the …
