In this study of the topic of true/false prophecy, the author has chosen to review the writings of Jeremiah to determine what criteria were used by Jeremiah, and perhaps the later redactors of the book we call Jeremiah, to determine the truthfulness of Jeremiah's prophecies and the falsity of the prophecies of the temple prophets in Jerusalem. The author pays particular attention to the quotations which Jeremiah says are spoken by his opponents. An attempt is made to determine if these quotations of the opponents give us any clues to Jeremiah's fervent opposition to their statements. The author's analysis shows …

Peace and Conflict Studies

This article addresses complex identity-based conflicts, such as those associated with the ending of the Cold War (e.g., Bosnia). It suggests that in many identity-based conflicts, historical memories of outrage and victimhood ("chosen traumas") have persevered across centuries, thereby keeping the conflicting parties "in history." The paper examines the role of virulent ethnocentrism in such intractable conflicts. It also examines the role of "nature" and "nurture" in embedding the universal tendency for humans to divide their species into "them" and "us" within a highly charged emotional context. El Salvador, located in Central America, is a country that experienced a civil war during which its government fought for the prevalence of democracy and the rebel groups for a communist regime. The armed conflict ended in 1992 with a peace treaty signed by the two sides. After the end of the civil war, El Salvador was no longer a focus of international attention. As a result of the agreements reached in 1992, national security forces were abolished and a new national law enforcement agency was created: the National Civilian Police. This Comment will examine the similarities and differences between the trademark protection laws with regard to the multi-cultural nature of the consuming public of the European Union and that of the United States, and then will recommend ways in which the laws can be harmonized to promote the congruent development and expansion of economic activities globally. This harmonization is necessary in light of the interplay between these schemes for protection of marks and the protection provided under the Paris Convention for the Protection of Industrial Property, the Madrid Agreement Concerning the International Registration of Marks, and the Madrid Protocol. The purpose of this study was to determine the impact of self defense instruction of female cadets at the United States Military Academy on their physical self-efficacy. All95 female cadets enrolled in PE115 during the fall of2002 were surveyed on the first and last day of class to determine their levels of perceived physical ability (PPA) and physical self-presentation confidence (PSPC). Both the PP A and the PSPC are subscales ofthe Physical Self-Efficacy Scale (PSE). Completed data were collected from 80 (84 percent) ofthe subjects. Statistical data analysis included descriptive statistics and a 2x2 multivariate analysis of variance (MANOV A). …

This study concentrates on Sir Nicholas Throckmorton, a resident ambassador sent to France in the first years of Elizabeth's reign. He had never held a high level government position before this time, but was remembered for his ability to give advice on matters of foreign policy. Typically historians have approached the subject of the Queen's policy from a top down perspective. This thesis attempts to redress this view by looking at how diplomacy was conducted through the eyes of a diplomat.

The culture of diplomacy created statesmen and foreign policy advisors out of the diplomats in Elizabeth's reign. Ambassadors and …

This paper analyzes the role played by moderate Islamic groups in modem Egypt and tries to make a distinction between moderate, middle-of-the road groups and radical, extremist ones. There are several questions regarding the topic analyzed in this thesis. Is Islam inherently incompatible with the Western democratic values? Is there a difference between moderate and radical Islamic movements? Is the Muslim Brotherhood promoting an Islamic democracy and would that stabilize and improve the tormented Egyptian society? An examination of current literary works on spiritual warfare within this decade shows that there has been a struggle in understanding the issues that evolve under this subject. Missiologists have presented reports that baffle western theologians; however. these phenomena are not new to the non-westem reader, and they persist. Most western theologians who have not encountered these phenomena discount these experiences, presenting arguments from a sanctification point of view.
