A Study Of Company-Initiated Training In Us And Swedish Printing Firms Relative To Prepress, Press, And Finishing Operations, Jonas Hedman Dec 2003

A Study Of Company-Initiated Training In Us And Swedish Printing Firms Relative To Prepress, Press, And Finishing Operations, Jonas Hedman

Theses

Company-initiated training has become an increasingly important activity in printing firms because of the digital revolution in the industry which started in the mid 1980's. Previously, almost every step in prepress, press and finishing was analog, but today the workflow can be 100 percent digital until the information reaches the paper on the press. The computer is the principal part of the workflow, and it is essential for a printing firm to continuously train its workforce in the new technologies in order to develop the company's human resources, and thereby to improve the workflow and even ultimately to ensure the …

Measurement Of Prompt Charm Meson Production Cross Sections In Pp̅ Collisions At √S=1.96 Tev, Darin Acosta, Kenneth A. Bloom, Collider Detector At Fermilab Collaboration

Kenneth Bloom Publications

We report on measurements of differential cross sections d /dpT for prompt charm meson production in pp̅ collisions at √s=1.96 TeV using 5.8±0.3 pb-1 of data from the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. The data are collected with a new trigger that is sensitive to the long lifetime of hadrons containing heavy flavor. The charm meson cross sections are measured in the central rapidity region |y|≤1 in four fully reconstructed decay modes: D0→K- π+, D*+→D0 π+, D+→K- π+ π+, …

Reproduction On The Ranch, C. A. Lents, R. K. Peel, G. E. Seidel Jr., G. D. Niswender

Range Beef Cow Symposium

It is generally acknowledged that reproductive parameters are the most important components of a profitable beef operation. Research in beef cattle reproduction has led to a number of management strategies, each of which could improve efficiency of production and profitability. However, to make good decisions regarding applicability of these strategies to a specific operation requires a thorough cost:benefit:feasability analysis. Whether a strategy is appropriate for a given enterprise will be determined by the goals of the owner/manager and the human, animal, land and fiscal resources available. The following are a few of the most important considerations when making decisions regarding …

Effects Of Water Quality On Beef Cattle, Trey Patterson, Pat Johnson Dec 2003

Effects Of Water Quality On Beef Cattle, Trey Patterson, Pat Johnson

Range Beef Cow Symposium

Producers often invest a great deal of time and money in developing nutrition and grazing strategies for their cattle. It is often taken for granted that if water is available, cattle productivity can be maintained. This is not always the case. The quality of water available to cattle can have substantial impacts on productivity. Much of the water available to cattle in South Dakota, and other parts of the United States, is not sufficient in quality to sustain performance and health of cattle.

Field observations from our laboratory since 1999 have shown both surface and subsurface water to be high …

Managing To Alleviate Calf Scours: The Sandhills Calving System, David R. Smith, Dale Grotelueschen, Tim Knott, Steve Ensley Dec 2003

Managing To Alleviate Calf Scours: The Sandhills Calving System, David R. Smith, Dale Grotelueschen, Tim Knott, Steve Ensley

Range Beef Cow Symposium

Diarrhea remains an important cause of illness and death of young beef calves. The economic effects of calf scours can be profound. Some beef cattle herds annually experience death rates of 5 to 10 percent or greater, sometimes with up to 100 percent of calves being ill. Economic costs to the disease include loss of performance, mortality, and the expense of medication and labor to treat sick calves. In addition, herd owners and their employees often become disheartened after investing long hours to treat scouring calves during an already exhausting calving season.

Management practices can have a profound effect on …

Natural History Of The Mole Salamander Ambystoma Talpoideum In Virginia, Michael Scott Hayslett Dec 2003

Natural History Of The Mole Salamander Ambystoma Talpoideum In Virginia, Michael Scott Hayslett

Theses & Honors Papers

The Mole Salamander (Ambystoma talpoideum) has been known from Virginia for over two decades, but no intensive research on this state-rare species had been pursued prior to this project. Various aspects of mole salamander natural history were studied over a seven-year period throughout a seven-county area of central Virginia. New state distribution records for the species were recorded from Amherst, Appomattox, Buckingham, Campbell, Nelson, and Pittsylvania Counties. These records include a range of extension with the most northern occurrence known for this species in the United States.

Drift fence/pitfall trap studies were conducted on three ponds in two …
