Inverse Modeling Of Btex Dissolution And Biodegradation At The Bemidji, Mn Crude-Oil Spill Site, Hedeff I. Essaid, Isabelle M. Cozzarelli, Robert P. Eganhouse, William N. Herkelrath, Barbara A. Bekins, Geoffrey N. Delin, Win Butler Jan 2003

Inverse Modeling Of Btex Dissolution And Biodegradation At The Bemidji, Mn Crude-Oil Spill Site, Hedeff I. Essaid, Isabelle M. Cozzarelli, Robert P. Eganhouse, William N. Herkelrath, Barbara A. Bekins, Geoffrey N. Delin, Win Butler

United States Geological Survey: Staff Publications

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) solute transport and biodegradation code BIOMOC was used in conjunction with the USGS universal inverse modeling code UCODE to quantify field-scale hydrocarbon dissolution and biodegradation at the USGS Toxic Substances Hydrology Program crude-oil spill research site located near Bemidji, MN. This inverse modeling effort used the extensive historical data compiled at the Bemidji site from 1986 to 1997 and incorporated a multicomponent transport and biodegradation model. Inverse modeling was successful when coupled transport and degradation processes were incorporated into the model and a single dissolution rate coefficient was used for all BTEX components. Assuming a …

Breeding Season Avifauna Of Prairie Dog Colonies And Non-Colonized Areas In Shortgrass Prairie, Stephen L. Winter, Jack Cully Jr., Jeffrey Pontius Jan 2003

Breeding Season Avifauna Of Prairie Dog Colonies And Non-Colonized Areas In Shortgrass Prairie, Stephen L. Winter, Jack Cully Jr., Jeffrey Pontius

United States Fish and Wildlife Service: Publications

Avian assemblages of black-tailed prairie dog (Cynomys ludovicianus) colonies were compared to those present at two types of non-colonized grassland, during the breeding season, in southwestern Kansas and southeastern Colorado. Relative abundances were quantified in 1996 during a period of drought and in 1997 during a period of above average precipitation. We detected fewer bird species at all sites in 1996 than in 1997, and the total number of bird species detected on prairie dog colonies was lower than that detected on both types of non-colonized areas during both years. Homed larks (Eremophila alpestris) had higher …

Mourning Dove Population Status, 2003, David D. Dolton, Rebecca D. Rau Jan 2003

Mourning Dove Population Status, 2003, David D. Dolton, Rebecca D. Rau

United States Fish and Wildlife Service: Publications

This report includes Mourning Dove Call-count Survey information gathered over the last 38 years within the conterminous United States. Trends were calculated for the most recent 2- and 10-year intervals and for the entire 38-year period. Between 2002 and 2003, the average number of doves heard per route decreased significantly in the Eastern Management Unit. No change was detected in the Central and Western Units. Over the most recent 10 years, no trend was indicated for doves heard in any management unit. Over the 38-year period, all 3 units exhibited significant declines. In contrast, for doves seen over the 10-year …

Final Environment Impact Statement: Double-Crested Cormorant Management In The United States, Shauna Hanisch, Brian Millsap Jan 2003

Final Environment Impact Statement: Double-Crested Cormorant Management In The United States, Shauna Hanisch, Brian Millsap

United States Fish and Wildlife Service: Publications

Populations of Double-crested Cormorants have been increasing rapidly in many parts of the U.S. since the mid-1970s. This abundance has led to increased conflicts, both real and perceived, with various biological and socioeconomic resources, including recreational fisheries, other birds, vegetation, and hatchery and commercial aquaculture production. This document describes and evaluates six alternatives (including the proposed action) for the purposes of reducing conflicts associated with cormorants, enhancing the flexibility of natural resource agencies to deal with cormorant conflicts, and ensuring the long-term conservation of cormorant populations. There are four chapters that make up the critical components of an Environmental Impact …

Status Assessment And Conservation Plan For The Western Burrowing Owl In The United States, David S. Klute, Loren W. Ayers, Michael T. Green, William H. Howe, Stephanie L. Jones, Jiill A. Shaffer, Steven R. Sheffield, Tara S. Zimmerman

United States Fish and Wildlife Service: Publications

The Western Burrowing Owl (Athene cunicularia hypugaea) is a grassland specialist distributed throughout w. North America, primarily in open areas with short vegetation and bare ground in desert, grassland, and shrub-steppe environments. Burrowing Owls are dependent on the presence of fossorial mammals (primarily prairie dogs and ground squirrels), whose burrows are used for nesting and roosting. Burrowing Owls are protected by the Migratory Bird Treaty Act in the United States and Mexico. They are listed as Endangered in Canada and Threatened in Mexico. They are considered by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) to be a Bird …

Borderline Personality Disorder : A Comparison Of Linehan And Kernberg's Treatment Modalities, Janet M. Riley Jan 2003

Borderline Personality Disorder : A Comparison Of Linehan And Kernberg's Treatment Modalities, Janet M. Riley

Graduate Research Papers

About 30% of clients worldwide are diagnosed as Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) (Bohus et al., 2000). BPD is a complex disorder and difficult to treat. Therefore, it is necessary for counselors to gain as much knowledge about treatment modalities and their effectiveness as possible. This paper attempts to define BPD by looking closely at its history.and describing the criteria for diagnosis. Linehan's Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Kernberg's Object Relational Theory (ORT) are compared as to their effectiveness in working with clients who exhibit symptoms of BPD.
